Excellent post Con,

Good luck to South Melbourne whatever happens and keep up your support.

NSL lessons vital for A-League's future

Steve,
don’t confuse racism with behaviour unbecoming of a professional football club and its fans.

I’ve got nothing against Greeks, they are wonderful people and make great friends.

Even current A-League clubs have bad fans who are getting into the commercial media for all the wrong reason and who still haven’t learnt that flares and other anti-social behaviour is not welcome in our game. And I have no idea which nationality they are, nor does it matter.

The FFA have their hands full trying to keep who we have already in the A-League under control.

If we introduce Greek, Croation, Serbian, Turkish, Macedonian clubs into the league it will just throw petrol onto the fire.

Sorry mate, but clubs like South Melbourne will not be allowed into the A-League and its not just because they are a Greek run club.

I have concerns about the FFA Cup and what it will do to the image of the A-League and football in general, because for sure and certain, if you get two rival ethnic groups playing each other, there will be trouble and the reporters and camera men from 7, 9 & 10, Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun and Courier Mail will be there in their truckloads to film it, photograph it and write it up for the front and back pages.

South Melbourne saga shows the divisions in our football family

The Socceroos are in a rebuilding phase and are doing well to be within a shout of Brazil 2014.
But we sure do need the emerging players to step up to help us qualify.
Sainsbury is one of the better young ones and will get there, but looks like we’re still relying on the old brigade for now.

I thought Holger was a great choice to get us through this rebuilding phase, but at times it appears that he doesn’t have a clue and his results haven’t been good enough in this phase.

We’re in survival mode at the moment with our backs to the wall and I hope it inspires us to get there.

Tim Cahill's blunt words to spur on young tyros

What “unproven stuff” or “uninformed speculation”?

The Essendon CEO has already admitted to anything referred to in this article.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Japan are employing a full strength team and are not holding back any.

We’ll do well to get a point, but we seem to have a good record against them.
Its football and stranger things have happened, especially if Tom Waterhouse is running a book on it. 🙂

Japan will fear Socceroos says North

Even if MH accepted SM’s offer the FFA wouldn’t have approved the transaction and SM wouldn’t be in the A-League anyway.
Call it racism, xenophobia, unfair, biased or whatever, that’s the reality.

Unfortunately ethnic clubs who have a history of crowd violence will not be admitted to the A-League.

There will be enormous scrutiny of the behaviour of clubs in the FFA Cup and if there is repeated bad behaviour and crowd trouble, they will be expelled from the Cup or at worst would mean the end of the FFA Cup.

South Melbourne saga shows the divisions in our football family

Are you serious mate? 🙂

Most of my articles have been on boxing, not football or AFL.

And you people go on about how the rest of the world is paranoid.

Just discuss the topic or don’t you have an opinion Jimbo.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Why does the AFL need a media department of 105 or more staff?

What are they employed for?

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

The AFL media department has 105 or more staff.
16 reporters
12 sub-editors
20 journalists and content producers
20 development and media producers
11 graphic artists and designers
5 photographers
1 analyst
2 social media experts
plus administration support
plus management

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Ahmed,
what’s the truth my AFL following Muslim friend?

Either AFL management are ridiculously stupid or they think the public are.

Read this article about the AFL’s influence on the media – and it wasn’t written by me. 🙂

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Thanks Licca, but there seems to be more spite and hate directed at me, than there is in the article.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

I like the game and I watch it.

Stop hiding behind the troll tag, why not discuss the topic, offer your explanation and your opinions about what needs to be done.

Maybe its just easier to attack other people and stick your head in the sand.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

I think Demetriou and the AFL management know more than they are letting on.

I’m sure the Essendon management would have discussed what they were planning with Demetriou before they set off down that path.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

As you seem to be misinformed, let me point out that football is the most popular sport in the world and is followed by men and boys as well as women and girls.

Following football doesn’t mean you are a girl.

Are there any women or girls who follow AFL or are they not allowed to?

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Please point out any “inaccuracies” in my article.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

The AFL has even more reporters than the Hersld Sun
http://www.thecitizen.org.au/media/more-footy-reporters-herald-sun-why-afls-media-play-threatens-big-media-players

As this article says, it raises questions about integrity and conflict of interest.

Its not fear, a lot of sports fans just want to know the truth.
What’s being served up is not easy to swallow.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

I think football and the A-League has copped its fair share redb.

Don’t you think some of the stuff coming out about this is a bit ludicrous.
Either the people involved are hopelessly incompetent and should be sacked immediately or someone is not telling the whole truth.

There’s enough material there for the press to go crazy, but what are we getting from the AFL controlled media and Demetriou?

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Franko,
I agree that the AFL was better before Demetriou and Oakley and Jackson were better administrators of the game.

The way Andrew works he makes full use of his media department and agree that he is not likely to admit to anything.

I also think he knows more than he is letting on.

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

An AFL troll is anyone who doesn’t agree with you.

Why not offer your explanation about what’s happening or an opinion about how much Demetriou and the AFL knew about what was going on?

Lack of accountability now haunts the AFL

Fair go fellow sports fans, why be so unwelcoming.

I am merely agreeing with the author that the AFL can’t afford to let GWS fold.

GWS will still be here in another 150 years, by which time the AFL will have teams based on Mars and Uranus.

COWLEY: The AFL won't let the GWS Giants fail

Good luck to GWS.

Not sure what you mean by “fail” but the GWS will never fold and pack up their bags and go back to Melbourne.

If they were privately owned they would probably have folded by now, but the reality is that they are bankrolled by the AFL and they will throw whatever money at them they need to keep them going.
To shut down the club would be a PR disaster for the AFL marketing department

I sense they are in for another bad year, worse than last year.
Most of the members are from Canberra or Melbourne and there is not that much interest in GWS in Sydney, especially since Izzy left.
Most of their Sydney crowds are made up of Victorian expats supporting the team they are playing.

Like the Swans, their following will drop by another 20-30% this year.

COWLEY: The AFL won't let the GWS Giants fail

Looooong bow there Beardan – Popovic lost the grand final because Pertakis didn’t play?

I think CCM won because they had the better tactics and nullified the WSW midfield with close marking and pressing defence.
They also had the experienced players who have played in a WC against Brazil and top line European leagues.

Hersi was a big loss and creates the chances for the others.
3 of the WSW team were carrying injuries after a layoff and that was a bigger gamble than leaving Yianni in a suit.

Stupid handball led to the winning goal. No need to handle it.

Popovic selection blunder of the year hurt WSW

If they ever fall out of love with WSW, they can always use their shirts, scarves and beanies to follow Flamengo, North Sydney Bears or the Essendon Bombers. 🙂

A-League grand final marks football's coming of age

Its up to the members to offer them for sale, you can’t force them.

A lot of stadiums now sell memberships to raise revenue, so a sellout is rarely = capacity, especially when a lot of members are rugby unon and rugby league members.

A few of them are dead too. 🙂
