If SFS was not available as well, it would have been played at Parramatta.

They only have one week to book the venue which is dangerous and to put a deposit on the booking of many likely venues months out is expensive and wasteful.

Tough decisions for the FFA.
Do they keep up with the home team grand final model or have the Grand Final played at the same ground every year?

But, if the CCM v WSW GF was played at Suncorp or MCG, would they get a sellout?

Nice one for Gallop to sort out, but I suspect they’ll keep on with the status quo.

A-League Grand Final 2013: Central Coast Mariners crowned champions

Was very surprised when they announced the crowd of 10,700.
Looked more like 15,000 to me.

The same game at the same ground last year, CCM got 7,575 so its a 42% increase on last season. The A-League continues to grow. Then we had a sold out grand final of 50,557.

The capacity of the SFS is 45,500, I expect the grand final will be sold out, less a couple of thousand SFS Members who won’t bother to turn up or are dead. 🙂

How is ADP a flop?

He won the Alex Tobin medal as the A-League’s best player, the SFC Golden boot breaking the record, tripled SFC’s revenues and almost doubled their average home attendances and helped lift the A-League overall ratings 30% and attendances 20%.

If that is a failure, I’d hate to think what you people consider a success. 🙂

Mid, can we make it an all NSW grand final.

Mike,
the Wanderers proved too strong for the Roar.

You read it here first. 🙂

Brisbane Roar will prove too strong for the Wanderers

Fantastic coverage Vince and thanks for doing such a good job on the night shift.

Great game of football. Real finals atmosphere and passion and aggression from both sides.
The fans did themselves proud too.

Both goals very good but Ono all class.
Roar defence gave the WSW forwards too much room especially Shinji who was invited to take a free shot.

Once Hersi went off was surprised Roar didn’t push forward more with a back 3 and front 3 attackers and fullbacks pushing up more.

But former Socceroos defender Poppa has got his defence rock solid and Beau and NT-S playing their best football ever.

I’m starting to agree that Poppa might be ready enough to take over the Socceroos, especially if Holger fails to get to Brazil.

Might even be time to recall Beau to the Socceroos.

Very solid game and top performance from both sides, but WSW just has that little bit more creativity and class.

WSW v MV or CCM will be a top Grand FInal and looking forward to it. Will try and get tickets as soon as they go on sale.

Should be a great weekend of football.

The best 4 teams left in the semis and the best 2 teams in finals football move into the grand final, whoever they be.

A-League's epic semi showdown kicks off tonight

Nice touch there with Lucas appearing on Alan Jones and giving something back to the game while he is here.
ADP is doing some kids holiday clinics in Sydney too.

The value of people like Tim Cahill, Lucas Neil, Mark Schwarzer and ADP and others in bringing the game to so many young Australians cannot be underestimated and is to be applauded.

Is the Australia Cup the cement to bind football?

The A-League premiers have been decided and it is WSW – the finals series doesn’t take that away from them.

If we didn’t have a finals series no one would have watched the final few rounds because it was all wrapped up and just a matter of whether it was WSW or CCM as premiers.

They played finals in the NSL for 27 years and every state league has a finals series.
What’s the problem with having a finals series?

This game tonight is one of the most anticipated in Sydney sport and made the back pages of the Daily Telegraph and Sydney Morning Herald and is on all the news reports, except for Channel 7 and 9 who have commercial reasons for not mentioning the elephant in the room.

A-League finals football is fair enough

The Melbourne Herald Scum’s fair and unbiased reporting on the sell-out Liverpool v Victory game – their headline “Soccer Scalpers Get in Early”.

Brisbane Roar will prove too strong for the Wanderers

Barca were lucky and PSG very brave and unluckily eliminated without having been beaten.

Messi made the difference when he came on, but PSG should have been 2 up by then.

Will look forward to the semi final draw tomorrow night, but Barca don’t look as good as last year and Real look vulnerable too. Might be an all German final if the semi draw splits them.

I’m very sick and tired of people bagging the A-League finals as “rewarding mediocrity”.

Every team that made the finals deserved to be there. Only 5 points separated the bottom 5 teams.
It wasn’t till the very last round that the finalists were decided and the number of teams chasing the final play off places created a lot of extra interest for the game and the A-League.

We’ve always had finals in Australian football going back to before the NSL even started.

How are major tournaments around the world like the FIFA World Cup decided – first past the post?
No, they are a knockout competition and the best team in the competition wins the final.
Its a different sort of pressure and a different type of skill, stamina and courage under adversity for the manager, the players and the teams.

Its great and I love it.

Gallop defends A-League finals format

We’ve had finals series in the NSL for 27 years before the A-League was even thought of, so this is not de Bohun or Gallop’s idea “trying to copy NRL”.

The finals series, has yet again been an outstanding success with interest in the A-League at an all-time high and this weekend we will get one sold out and one nearly sold out semifinal to enjoy.

Stop bagging everything “soccer”. chill out and enjoy the extra 3 weeks of finals football.

It’s the Hyandai A-League Premiership, no one calls it the minor premiership except NRL and AFL journalists trying to cover “:soccer”.

Ono rates Popovic his best ever coach

This is a breakdown of Nepean District in west Sydney:

FFA gets 12.50 of the rego fee. They don’t have any money to subsidise junior clubs and help reduce fees like NRL and AFL can with their billion dollar + media money.

The Socceroos of 2030?

Effectively its a 20M cash injection.

Yes
spot on. At the time.

Since then Theo Walcott beat Rooney’s record by about 30 days.

Former AU midfielder Jonas Sally lines up for Guizhou Renhe against the Mariners tonight.

Mariners look to youngsters for ACL clash

That wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the article above so I’ll take your word for it.

Such was Buckley’s poor handling of the media, that you’d never know about it and that was one of his faults.
I think Gallop is a much better CEO and leader to take football further than Buckley did.

A 20 million dollar cash injection for grassroots football

Shame about the timing of this game for the Mariners, for the A-League and for Australian football’s standing in Asia.

Its always likely that the A-League’s ACL reps are going to be involved in end of season dogfights and finals football at this time of year, just as the ACL is kicking off round one qualification.

Best of luck to the Mariners and the bogan yellow seas dogs and hope you get a precious away win and make it through to the next round of the ACL.

Mariners look to youngsters for ACL clash

There’s some pretty big names and sponsors getting involved.
Telstra even made sure they outbid Optus and are replacing them as major sponsors of grassroots football development, probably because of the sport’s superior junior participation numbers and market reach.

David Gallop has influence with the media and sponsors and has probably already paid back his first year’s salary.

That game was also memorable as Wayne Rooney’s first ever international for the England senior team as a 17 year old, the youngest ever debut.

Popovic wants to achieve his own ultimate goal

What was your round 2 prediction?

In a knockout semi with 2 teams and one must lose, so theoretically anything could happen.
Really enjoy finals football and look forward to another great weekend of A-League finals.

Then there were four - review of the A-League finals so far

What a great own goal.

Its been an amazing year for Tony Popovic and the WSW.
He would be the least surprised of anyone that they’ve made it this far and would give his team a great chance of winning on Friday. I for one thought that just making the top six would be an achievement, but wow.

As a SFC fan WSW have become my second team and after what BR did to us will enjoy you taking them apart.

All the best Tony and the team at WSW on Fri night.

Popovic wants to achieve his own ultimate goal

Wanderers tickets are the hottest tickets in town and not using ANZ has made them very popular.
Tickets on sale up to $1,000 on eBay.

ANZ is not available on the 21st, so if WSW and/or Mariners make the GF, it will be at SFS.

The finals series are owned by the FFA and they have the final say where games are played.
