One of my cricketing heroes growing up. For a while there he was the only good player in an average team. Though he wasn’t just a good player, but a truly great one. The type you’d want to bat for your life. The rise of Australian cricket under Taylor and Waugh and onwards was started by AB. Hope he’s around for a few more years yet.

'If I make 80, that'll be a miracle': Allan Border reveals tragic Parkinson's diagnosis

Broad’s the player so many Australian fans love to hate. But I’m a fan. Uber competitive and passionate. Decent bants. Usually brings his A game against us. Mind you if we lost I probably wouldn’t be saying this.

CAPTAIN FANTASTIC! Clutch Cummins sees Aussies home in Ashes instant CLASSIC

I could see England bowling us out in an hour. Yes this is a reverse jinx.

Over to you, Uzzy! Broad burst topples Labuschagne and Smith to leave Aussie run chase perilously poised

Shock. Horror. Fast bowler mouths off at batter. Stop the presses.

UK View: 'Hardly angelic' - Poms react to 'ironic indignation' after Uzzy abuse, Green hailed as 'finest' of all time

Starc has a far better strike rate than Hazlewood. Better than Broad, Anderson and DK freaking Lillee as well. He goes for a bit but gets wickets. And provides footmarks for Lyon.

'My favourite player': Brilliant Boland gets ultimate praise from Cummins after leading Aussies to WTC final victory

In that case ignore everything I said.

BazBall, meet TravBall - Hurricane Head tears India apart as bold selection gamble backfires

Nice one Trav and Smudge. I’m paying for it now having stayed up till 3am. I’m assuming that if the Test is drawn Australia still win the WTC. So they can bat and bat. Mind you they may get knocked over in the first session. But if not, pile on the runs.

Not difficult to imagine MI (Reliance Industries Limited) tempting Cam Green (or some future talent) with millions of buckaroos to sign with them year round and play for the various teams they own. Maybe they’ll be kind enough to let him play a Test match or two every so often.

Test case scenario: Year-long IPL mega contracts put heat on international cricket in biggest shake-up since Packer revolution

In 10 years time we’ll still be saying “this will certainly be Anderson’s last Ashes”.

Ashes burning questions, one month out: Batting woes, injured quicks, Bazball factor, who should be favourites?

Be fascinating to see Warner (or any of the older blokes – Smudge, Usman) coping with the speed of Archer and/or Wood. The old fella’s lost a bit of reaction time. Mind you expecting Wood to be fit is a bit like expecting Ryan Harris to be fit.

Ashes squad announced: Marsh gets surprise recall, Warner avoids axe but two openers picked as cover, Morris out

Great reading the comments. You lot know. a lot more than me. We seem to have a let a lot of players go in recent years, and that seemed fine as we were still getting results. Will be fascinating to see what happens next year, will Ship remain as coach (hope so), will the team look more like the final Shield game? In a few years time when the quicks and Smudge retire NSW may not have many players in the Test team if things don’t change. And as TGC like to say I won’t be feeling safe.

You snooze, you lose, Blues: Drastic overhaul needed after once-mighty NSW endure winless Shield season

Ellis should be a fixture in all our future white ball squads. Should have been there in the last T20 World Cup. Even with 3 wides and a no ball the Indian players found it really difficult to get him away. Starc blowing the top order apart helped mind. We always seem a bit slow in picking players who don’t fit a certain mould when it comes to white ball cricket.

Two Mitches are better than one: Sensational Starc, mighty Marsh lead the way as Aussies steamroll India

Complaints about pitches are becoming tedious. It’s been a great series. Australia have shown they can compete in India whatever pitch is provided and with a ND policy.

Ahmedabad '22-day wicket' should cop 'poor' rating as well as greats fume, Kohli ends 1200-day drought: Talking Points

Absolutely. All teams do it.

Ahmedabad '22-day wicket' should cop 'poor' rating as well as greats fume, Kohli ends 1200-day drought: Talking Points

Absolutely. Everyone’s the same. The idea that Australian’s have a particular national trait in this regard is dubious. I don’t think any pitch India produce will take Australia out of the game as we have a decent amount of talent in all areas.

Indore pitch rated 'poor', Sharma shirty over doctoring claims, Smith doesn't want captaincy - 3rd Test Talking Points

I thought the pitch was great. More please 😊

I wonder whether India will risk producing these raging day 1 turners come Australia’s next tour. We have very good spinners. And these pitches can make the game a bit of a lottery. India probably think their batters are superior to ours in their conditions, so why not produce more regular pitches that turn a bit later in the Test. Also I reckon their batters may be a bit peeved that their averages are getting reduced at home. Anyhow it will be interesting to see what happens next we tour (which will be 5 Tests not 4).

India’s 'average' pitches wearing thin, Waugh, Haddin claim umpire gave home side helping hand - Talking Points

Nice. What does Pez do with all her medals? Make a wind chime maybe. Midge and Lanning need to be moving their strike rates above 100 earlier in their innings come future T20Is. South Africa’s had a winning run rate from overs 16-20. It was the 1-17 after the first 5 overs that was crucial for Oz.

Ash fires up as Aussies defend T20 World Cup crown with red-hot final victory over Proteas

Very sad. He’s a man of great character and no doubt owes a lot of that to his mum.

Cummins rules himself out of third Test, reveals his mother is seriously ill

If they don’t go with Warner I think they’ll go with Harris in the Ashes. His last 2 County seasons are 655 @ 54.58 in 2021, 726 @ 42.70 in 2022. Renshaw had a good 2022 as well so maybe him but if he continues to fail in India he’ll be hard to select.. These next 2 Tests will be interesting. The best chance of getting selected in the Ashes is not to go to India. So Warner’s stocks will rise again. Wonder if they bring Bancroft over to India.

Warner may have played last Test with veteran opener heading home from India tour

You wouldn’t have got great odds on a 4-0 (well unless it was 4-0 Australia).

'I'm as much to blame as anyone': Cummins admits Aussies batted 'too up-tempo' in Delhi implosion

Maybe they just need to hire Ravi Shastri next Test tour to India.

'I'm as much to blame as anyone': Cummins admits Aussies batted 'too up-tempo' in Delhi implosion

So many great cricketers don’t know when to retire. Punter was the same. It’s that fighting I’ll prove you all wrong spirit with Warner. After less than 100 runs from 10 innings in the last Ashes he no doubt wants to show he can make runs in England. We can’t really afford to take the risk. Harris seems to be the anointed one, although I fear Test cricket is one step too high for him (but I have been wrong before!).

Selectors letting Warner down by not dropping him - 'really struggling, feet not moving', Handscomb settles in: Talking Points

If Australia win this Test it would be a victory for the ages. Most realistic expectations have been pretty low I guess. I hope a 4-0 series loss doesn’t instigate wholesale panic and change for change’s sake. The ushering out of David Warner and the introduction of Murph and another batter would be good enough for me.

FLEM’S VERDICT: The key trio who must bounce back for Australia to grab series momentum from India

If we get a towelling in the 2nd Test after selecting a whole bunch of new players then what 😂 Assuming we make it to WTC final against India it will be interesting how that game goes under different conditions. Either way we could be starting the Ashes under pressure and with plenty of tut-tutting from the some of those moaning rent-a-voice old guard players (not you, Flem). A good performance in the 2nd Test, even if we lose, would be OK for me. Fun times ahead!

FLEM'S VERDICT: Head must come back but Aussies need to change game plan or they’ll get another thrashing
