I agree with your last point. Look how Feki lands on his head.

How the Slater saga showed the rules should be changed

How about an advertising campaign that starts with scenes of the field ready to go. Shots of the active fans in full flight. Then the whistle sounds. Then highlights of the goals and saves of the season. You know the spectacular stuff that gets attention and makes you want to see the ad again.

All to the soundtrack of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.

The final think on the screen is the three words:

Nothing Else Matters

Music won't help the A-League, but Tina Turner just might

“It’s not sexy, but think of it like compound interest: the numbers grow every year by doing the fundamentals well. That’s how you create a large body of rusted-on fans, who eventually enable you to reach great heights.”

Music during play at A-League games is the FFA's worst idea yet

Passionate noise from fans creates atmosphere.

Atmosphere attracts more fans as it is something that people want to be part of.

I’d go one step further and say:

A merger between Southern Expansion and SWS/Macarthur makes no sense.

A merger between Southern Expansion and the NSW South Coast make no sense.

It’s an earlier and quicker drive from Campbelltown to Wollongong than from Campbelltown to Loftus or wherever the Southern Expansion would end up. Any stadium they build is years away.

Southern Expansion does not understand who they are trying to represent. Without an identity they will fail as a club. Look at any successful sporting club at what ever level in any sport and the clubs that survive and thrive have an identity that the supporters can be part of.

What the FFA doesn't care about in A-League expansion

I agree “At Work” APIA Leichhardt is far more Sydney FC than Wanderers territory. Leichhardt is only about 7km from the Sydney CBD.

What the FFA doesn't care about in A-League expansion

“In most AFL games the crowd engagement is clearly evident, whereas when the camera pans across the crowd at most other sports, the level of crowd engagement is generally much less. Ice hockey, netball and Gaelic football are other sports with quite good crowd engagement.”

Have you been to a football match anywhere in the world? You state that you were envious of the FIFA World Cup and maybe the crowds were part of the reason. Football crowds have some of the best crowd engagement. Yes there have been some issues with some football crowds but at the last 2 AFL games I have been to there were people ejected form the ground for their behavior.

If you’d like to see a World Championship/Cup in the future then there needs to be a desire for spectators to watch AFL games from people outside of Australia.

Look at how the parochial the AFL culture is in Melbourne. There are similar cultures for other sports in other parts of the world. That’s the type of culture that you need to break into.

Who will play the All Australian team?
