The blowout was probably the 10 coaches sitting around the table in the hotel and the sports psychologist that Eddie just stared straight thru … I know its not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, but its not like RA has got the stuff growing on trees.. loved rugby for 40 years now.. but dumb decision after dumb decision when there all apparently “business people’ running the game really tests you out..

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

I liked DR we had some average games but I thought in general we had played the best we had played in a long time and felt like a bit of momentum was building. Anyway Eddie is back

'Highway robbery': Schwarzer grills Sports Minister & FA boss on price of football after Socceroos disaster

Hear me out, but is it possible our “elite” sportspeople, the ones who have all the attributes to possibly make it in a number of sports are spread out over so many professional codes, say Football, AFL, League, Union, Cricket etc, that compared to other nations where the focus is primarily on 1 elite level sport, that the extra elite players were looking for in Football are just not there no matter how much effort people put into it ? And a lot of the countries were comparing ourselves to have double the population so they have a lot more to pick from.. just a thought

Good article… everyone thinks this is a problem which will just disappear. The decline in player enrolment in tackle codes is the evidence (I’ve coached kids for 6 years and have witnessed the decline ) .. the only growth in the game is in league tag… I’ve loved league my whole life but in the last year I see all the unnecessary head contact & nothing being done about it and it’s turned me off a lot. A few weeks for a penalty isn’t a deterrent. Gould has become a dinosaur when it comes to this issue.

A measured discussion about an important issue in NRL? Ha! Let's just scream about concussion!

'You'd have got two years in jail for that': Tupou high shot overshadows depleted Dragons' ANZAC win

I hear you and agree the other codes are different, but my point was never referring to having less players in the game at all, I was saying we seem to have thousands of players and can barely produce a top flight player. Totally agree coaching is the way to go, but after being involved for half my life, we all know soccer is so poorly aligned thru out all the levels & different competitions that the coaching will never translate down and reach those that need it.

Arnie in! Graham Arnold to continue on as head coach of the Socceroos

You have to wonder how much a manager can actually do receiving players into a different squad each outing with maybe days or a weeks prep. Were all expecting a coach / manager to work a miracle in very short space of time. Could it not be that something needs to be done at a lower level in order to improve our chances at international level ? We seem to get the lions share of the kids, with most soccer clubs having multiple teams in each age group for not much success at the top level, whereas say cricket, rugby & league can barely field teams in age groups but seem to get good success at the top. Maybe a more streamlined approach to youth training and techniques would give us better international results ?

The hit Fuimaono did on Pappy was a disgrace, no one is paying there hard earned to see that lazy and cheap tackling style, there paying to watch good tough footy and players like Pappy doing there thing. People wonder why there’s such a big decline in kids playing anymore, parents see this stuff and the kid goes to soccer.
