For Aus SR teams to improve & and all levels of rugby in Aus , we need to improve our forward play .
Many have said for years on the roar and I agree , that we need better coaching at younger age groups in the art of fwd play . We need more big skilled front rowers / tight five coming through our system and we need to set up academies to improve fwd set pieces at teenage years.
The old saying “forwards win matches” is as good as true .

Australia's SRP sides may have fallen at trans-Tasman hurdle - but three signs point to a closing gap

Personally I would enjoy seeing Jorgo play in U20 Wallaby games coming up. Build some confidence, have some fun and hopefully carve it up .

Just on the U 20 squad .., impressive lineup with plenty SR experience. Look fwd to watching them this year .

Maybe a good write up Christy on the young blokes . Apologies if it’s already happened.

Jorgensen set to be left out for Hurricanes as Schmidt drops in at Tahs training

From memory he signed 2 year extension with Rebels in 2022 through to end of 2024.
He was talk of Aus super rugby last year and starting Wallabies player. Is he receiving what he is worth ??
Not surprised a decent player manager is out on the prowl doing his job .
I would have thought The uncertainty of Rebels SR future would have plenty player managers behind the scenes at present , especially if players off contract end of 2024 and a Wallaby.

Wallabies' young gun mulling NRL switch as Rebels' future continues to cloud picture

Thanks Geoff great wrap over a big w’end .
I’m not even a Brums supporter (do like to see them do well) but what a turn around. On a cracking Canberra Autumn Sat arvo with good footy to boot .
Just wanted to be there to enjoy it !!

Looking fwd to news on the AGM

The Wrap: Rebels young gun rockets out of Wallabies contention, and why Samipeni Finau's 'brutal' hit on Edmed was fair game

It’s a good question if legal or not as to timing. What is the time frame acceptable for a player to pass ball before being crunched in great tackle ??
For 40 years I would say to last night’s tackle , play on great hit . We were taught as loosies to try and smash the halves . Finau has this this in his game plan and though several tackles this season have been borderline im ok with it . If it’s illegal than we need to trust the refs to act on it . wish the Aussie teams would do more of it .

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

Agree it’s docile.
Surely measures could be implemented that a grade player , having paid subs , could be called into a Aus super rugby squad/game and be covered by insurance and given match payments.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

Yep I agree and prefer Gordon’s running & attack ability and defensive efforts . Credit to Lolesio though as his stint in France has given him more self confidence I feel & Bernie looks to coach him to his abilities.
We all know kicking has been a major issue at Wallaby level for far too long .
Will be a big pressure pot brewing for Wallabies #10 .. hopefully brings the best out of all our playmakers going fwd

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

Agree Chuckie

'What the hell's going on': Ex-Wallabies question 'losing' culture, pathways at Waratahs

There seems a real lack of cohesion when the tahs are under pressure and no rugby smarts to grind out a game . I don’t want to say these guys aren’t mentally tough but jeez these blokes are professional rugby players.
On other hand they can play good rugby at times .. maybe it’s a young team , hit and miss on experience . I dunno anymore

Agree with others on here with lack of accountability. Some bloke could be playing the house down in Shute Shield week in week out and not push out the contracted out of form tah player .

And as we all know we simply don’t play enough games per season

'What the hell's going on': Ex-Wallabies question 'losing' culture, pathways at Waratahs

Enjoying these positive and professional appointments Tony .
I know it’s old news although the Ryles & Hodgson appointments under Eddie last year was just plain ludicrous. I still can’t fathom the thought process.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.

'It can be something great': Schmidt turns to 'scrum doctor' as next step in Wallabies rebuild

Good to hear … this Board is weak and have no strategic direction.
Yes I would prefer some names behind the letters but my view is on par .
Pressure is building, doubt they will need the broom for several to walk .

'Previous chairman can not be a scapegoat': First salvo fired in bid to spill the Rugby Australia board

Tribalism is mostly built on a winning culture. You will always have the die hard fans although when a team or club builds a winning culture people hop on for the ride .
Prior to 81 state of origin, NSW had smashed QLD , beating them 50 of 60 years .
81 was new concept with good marketing and the underdog little brother QLD giving it to NSW . Led by a passionate Artie , as someone mentioned above, smashing his mate Cronin . Booom , origin and state tribalism born .
Point is teams need regular winning cycles to drag back in the fans .
Looking at Waratahs, reds & Wallabies over last 20 years ( yes a super rugby title each ) results are ordinary at best getting flogged by NZ for years . Throw in a pay wall to watch and half a dozen home games and season done , unless winning you won’t grab the fence sitting fan because he/she are mostly sporting sheep who want to be around winning teams and enjoying the moment.

Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?

All for positive recommendations.
Prefer to see a fully responsible intelligent ‘in-touch with rugby’ boardroom to start the long haul forward. IMO , the hamster should not have been only person sent packing.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Foster greater interaction between RA Board and national players, to build trust, promote transparency & improve culture.

Yes , more extravagant cocktail parties & BBQ’s in Mosman .. just what the players need .
Half the board are completely useless and so out of touch with Rugby it’s pathetic.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Agree Pete
The disabling in 95 was a tragedy for Aus Rugby.
Not only did the scheme help the U6-U12 dad & mum volunteer coaches , also the school science teacher coaching the school U14C’s ,it paved the way for these kids to have better skills at a younger age which flowed through to 20 years of outstanding results for Rugby in Australia.

'Our system is failing': The 'crisis' sinking Australian rugby - and the 'crucified' coach that shows it

Positive enthusiasm… I like it Ben.

On the flip..
Even tried discussing with my 16yr old son on way to school this morning the excitement of rugby returning this w’end . He plays Rugby for his school and I have taken him to a couple Tah’s games each season (no need for smartarse comments below)
I was left frustrated when he went straight to the league in Vegas conversation. Added then
“Dad , we might play rugby and enjoy it but no one talks super rugby at school .. no one , we chat about league “

Unfortunately that’s my reality with him until his school rugby season kicks off and the Wallabies roll out.

Frustrated Porkchop

Bollocks to the doom merchants - Super Rugby 2024 offers Australian rugby its most glorious opportunity

Trueman sounds like he would have fitted in nicely to a 70’s Aussie team.
My old man tells a story of flying back to Sydney from India after a business trip late 70’s The Aussie cricketers happened to be on same plane . Once boarded, the team uniform was removed, shorts & t shirts appeared and a rowdy party consumed the front section of the Qantas 747 . He swears with a smile that ‘messy’ was a understatement although they held it together to change back into uniform for landing.

Team of the Month: a February-born World Cricket XI

Great read All Day and what a superb line up. My only change would be Dessy Haynes for Bill Lawry . A biased opinion as I thought Dessy was cooler than a Tassie winter southerly . His 43 average from 109 matches might not trump Bill although for pure pleasure y to o watch I would throw him in as opener.
Everton Weekes is well before my time although interestingly enough I read a random feed on another thread we’re Curtly Ambrose selected Weekes is his greatest WI eleven. (As Curtly did select himself, let’s say best ten). Weekes average speaks for itself.
As other have mentioned, AB deV coming in at seven would just pound an already deflated opposing bowling attack into oblivion. What an athlete he was , also being a school boy prodigy at fly half in rugby union .
Truemans average 21.57 for 307 wickets is up there , curious what discipline issues held him back .
Good call on Smith as Captain, didn’t he lead from example at a young age.

Team of the Month: a February-born World Cricket XI

Good to hear All day …
Will check it out tomorrow 👍

Horne Schmidt & Nucifora is a positive step for Rugby in Australia.
Good call I feel … Good luck to all of them

'We'll sack him and be in the same position': Ex-Wallaby condemns Larkham snub as Schmidt deal CONFIRMED

Good call as well

Bradman, Jordan, Ali ... Djokovic? Kyrgios claims Novak 'in the conversation for greatest athlete ever'

‘The greatest all time’ always makes for interesting conversations.
I always preferred the grace of Federer although stats don’t lie . Novak stands alone in male tennis having surpassed Roger & Rafa .
As for Williams incredible record, it does not equate to Margaret Court’s .

The Don trumps all if you look at a individual completely dominating and the margin to next person.

Bradman, Jordan, Ali ... Djokovic? Kyrgios claims Novak 'in the conversation for greatest athlete ever'

Few of the old Wallabies swear Rob Hemming , from a standing jump , could clap his hands above the goal posts cross bar .

Broken promises, sacrificial lambs and a monumental low blow - goodbye, good riddance to 2023 for Wallabies fans

Agree RTL ‘make it happen’ . Horne Schmidt and Nucifora in consulting capacity would see the much needed highly professional era moving forward in Aust rugby.

RA to begin hunt for Wallabies coach imminently after securing key man, Schmidt keen as Nucifora talks continue

I doubt new HPM Peter Horne would be so bold to look at Cheika . Clean slate, fresh face for Wallabies head coach I feel. Joe Schmidt for mine could be a good fit and it’s known of their past working relationship .
In saying that well done to Cheika on his time with Argentina. Some good positive results & scalps under his tenure.

'Everyone's in the hunt': RA won't rule out stunning Wallabies return after Cheika departs Argentina role
