Rugby league on both sides of the equator has signed rapists, philanderers, drug cheats, wife bashers, thugs, home wreckers… the list is long and it Barry raises an eyebrow.

For governing bodies to now say that a fairly harmless guy (a religious zealot he may be) prays for gays (but doesn’t hate them) and has harmed no one has no place in the game is utterly absurd and hypocritical. It’s outright astonishing.

How people can get on that band wagon and virtue signal is incredulous. They bash the living bejesus out of someone who has done nothing but preach the beliefs of many Christians (not ones i agree with). It’s not some new revelation that Christians think gays are sinners.

Where in the hell is the perspective? Where is the realism? Where is the common sense? Where is the basic moral compass?

Just let the guy get on with playing rugby and supporting his family. Stop writing endless hate preaching rubbish and filling comment sections with ignorant, hypocritical and idiotic comments

Israel Folau and the governing bodies who are powerless to govern

It truly is a waist of time trying to educate the wilfully ignorant. There seems to be an endless number of rank amateurs in here.

I’ll spell it out for you…
Contract law cannot trump human rights law. As an example you cannot contract yourself into slavery. Izzy was sacked for something that went against that breeches his human rights, that is illegal, that is where the court case would have been argued, that is why there was an out of court settlement.
Have you finally grasped it now?

Why everyone got it wrong about Rugby Australia and Israel Folau

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 18:
‘Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.’

Article 19:
‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.’

Geoff, you spend too much time projecting, second guessing and believing group think instead of thinking a little deeper. I’m curious, which side do you think I’m on?

This is an absurd inference…
“Raelene Castle should have fronted the media and defended Folau’s right to post what he did, and quoted this ‘right’?”

No, not for a second did I suggest or imply that but being a basically cognisant of the UDHR would have maybe prevented the severity of this fiasco.

I don’t disagree that what Izzy posted was a bit silly (for many reasons beyond the obvious) but it wasn’t half as silly as the way RA reacted. They acted like a rabbit caught in the headlights. No, they weren’t on a hiding to nothing at the initial stages, but they were once it became high profile, expensive legal teams got involved and it was headed for the HCA.

I absolutely am not ignoring that RA had to act, but they weren’t “forced” to do anything, they chose to be super woke and obtusely tear up a contract on terrible legal advice. I’m also not ignoring how people behaved but just because the mob are chanting for blood doesn’t mean RA have to act foolishly and shoot themselves in the foot with rank amateurism. I’m not even suggesting they should have appeased Izzy. A few weeks suspension, a fine, a notice of variation to the contract restricting social media usage etc were but a few potential options.

You are right about one thing, I am disappointed, I’m disappointed this completely unnecessary abysmal mess shat on basic religious freedoms, I’m disappointed RA is run by morons, I’m disappointed that many of Izzy’s rugby mates stuck the boot in, I’m disappointed so many people are carrying on with faux flag waving/moralising/wokeness, I’m disappointed Izzy was so stupid to post something that was obviously going to cause such a fuss, I’m disappointed this has tainted rugby, I’m disappointed with the abysmal commentary from people that should know better, I’m disappointed the settlement will likely rob funds from grassroots rugby, I’m disappointed our rugby team needs more players like Izzy, not less.

The illogical rational and false premise sewn into this article seems to be lost on the majority of commentators. Geoff P seems to start with the premise that Izzy is a terrible individual that had to go at all costs and RC got the job done, upheld RA’s ‘values and inclusive policies’… yay for rugby Australia and yay for RC, she did a wonderful job because the heathen is gone!
This rationale is so amateur and basic I struggle to find a place to begin. The very fact Izzy’s dismissal was about to be pursued in the high court before the parties reached a settlement suggests that just maybe the ad infintium projections of what “you think“ izzy said were way off the mark and he’s been wronged to some degree.
I’m yet to see how preaching for sinners to repent and save themselves from damnation is “hateful”, “intolerant”, or “not inclusive” as so many simpletons on here have claimed in millions of words of endless text. It’s like no one has bothered to go back to the source to see what Izzy actually posted. This includes RA’s legal advisers, though I suspect just maybe they weren’t even consulted when the green light was give. to tear up Izzy’s contract. This was always going to be a breach of religious freedom. The right to preach things about trying to save people from the hell fires is enshrined in the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights. Australia is signed up to that. How the hell did RA manage to end up where they did when it was so freaking obvious this would happen?
That’s essentially why they had no option but a court case or to settle and why Izzy had grounds and why he got a fair bit of dough out of it. If RA’s internal legal advisers were worth anything pains would have been taken to ensure it was kept at a much lower profile resulting with far less damage to the game and far less cost to RA’s purse. Heaven forbid Izzy might even still be playing the game. A point completely lost on this sycophant “journalist” crawling up the backsides of RA and it’s boss, singing their praises at how well they’ve done. How anyone can call this long winded article “good journalism” is beyond me. Good spin on a carcrash saga maybe. I suspect because like many, Geoff already made his mind up that Izzy is poison and that unincluding this outspoken Christian was the only possible option. Look away, no hypocrisy to be seen here.
Make no mistake, this was amateur hour for Rugby Australia and it’s chief and it has been an enormous unnecessary bloody mess for all involved. It has tarnished the beautiful game of rugby in so many ways. This article just continues the embarrassment and evidences that we’ve learned nothing.

I’m with you handles. I want RG to do well… he’s a top bloke and was a good rugby player but his record as coach is terrible. If he can pull together some decent wins against good sides then I might change my view but at this stage I’m thinking a bottom 5 finish is looking likely for my beloved Reds.

This article ignores what actually happened to the wallabies scrum against Wales and English. They both cheated by wheeling and angling in and got away with it. Its as simple as that. When both sides competed legally there was barely any discernible difference between the two packs. James Slipper and Kepu are more than up to the job and the bench arent half bad either. We need to be a little less naive maybe… and maybe do a little cheating of our own. The cheating that went on by England was so blatant I have no idea how it went unnoticed. The good news is that hopefully it will be highlight and reviewed and World Rugby will do something about it. Come RWC time the only advantage England will have over us is their lineout and maybe kicking game. they have very little else. If I was an England fan I would be worried.

Can we fix the Wallabies scrum?

because there is no scrum crisis. The reality is that the poms massively cheated in the scrum… even more so than the Welsh and got away with it. When both sides were not cheating the scrum was even. Over head footage tells you everything you need to know. Watch Joe Marler (loose head) and Courtney Laws. Every time they set up to angle in or wheel. It was appalling refereeing. Kepu is a world class tight head… easily in the top 5 in the world. He didn’t just suddenly become hopeless at it in the NH.
