Then I came across a book by Fingleton which placed Bradman in the context of his predecessor.
From that point I was hooked and realised that in his quest to be the beau ideal of perfection, Bradman went to all lengths to understate Trumper’s skill and influence.
In fact I am convinced Bradman began the myth of averages make the batter to his own obvious advantage.
But, one concession Bradman made to Trumper: that he faced Barnes and Bradman didn’t.
No point wondering about Trumper and bodyline (Jones was faster than Larwood was he not?)
Bradman would NOT have managed against Barnes.
