Always thought playing Stoinis and Maxwell in the same team was a risk. Would have preferred an extra batsman and had Smith / Finch to round out the ten overs with which ever allrounder we played. Australia’s tail was too long (probably the worst at the World Cup) and we were caught out against England (and nearly against NZ). NZ have the same problem with both De Grandhomme and Neesham in their side although Santner is a good No. 8. England have the best balanced side with Stokes being a batsman who can bowl and Woakes being a bowler who can bat.

Thoroughly outclassed, but Aussies can take heart in ODI revival

Yep I thought I could hear a loud cheer coming from Wellington when it was announced. The most popular CEO since Ross Oakley was in charge of the AFL back in the 80s/90s.

Confirmed: David Gallop stepping down as FFA CEO

So I now take it that any team who wins against the Mariners cannot expect to have any player in your team of the week, such is the low expectation you have placed on the besieged Central Coast club.

The A-League team of the week: Round 21

Unfortunately Peter Nevill plays in a cricket world where a keeper is regarded as an integral part of the batting lineup, and especially here in Australia where there has been a dearth of genuine bowling all rounders over the past few decades. I for one truly appreciate the subtle glovework of a nimble keeper, such as Peter Nevill, rather than the mere stoppers that we seem to have an abundance of. All I can say is keep at it Pete and who knows, one day we may return to selecting a true gloveman.

Peter Nevill deserves a run of good luck

Can’t help feeling the FFA are having a bob each way with the Phoenix. Without their financial stability, a nine team a-League would serve no purpose to the growth of football in this country or region. The collapse of the Gold Coast and North Queensland sides have those in power a little bit wary of when and who to introduce as the eleventh and twelfth teams. The last thing we need is to get rid of the Nix and then find one of the new teams suffers from financial collapse and we go back to having a bye. As far as the world Cup goes who says the AFC won’t boot Australia out and tell them to go back to the Oceania confederation if an automatic spot becomes available.

A-League's proposed quota changes further ashen Phoenix's future

Fantastic result for the Indian Super League, W-League reserves, Victoria Premier League seconds, and any other football league that have the facilities to host television cameras. The last thing we want is to see the demise of Channel 505, Foxtel’s dedicated Football Channel. Will be interesting to see how this affects the A League as they start their round of product peddling to the TV networks. Just maybe this will assist in retaining Wellington Phoenix’s position within the competition.
