Western Bulldogs are down and almost out
Punch stats are a guy pushing a button ringside from what he thinks he sees, it’s hardly something to bank a case on.
How Jeff Horn shocked the world
Watching the Box Nation coverage from the UK and they had Horn winning.
How Jeff Horn shocked the world
Good read, interesting topic.
I feel the team you play for and how many premierships will ultimately determine how people view someones career at the end of the day. Sadly, I think Pavlich falls into the bracket of playing for Freo and no flags, if he had have played for Collingwood would his status be even higher? Yes.
As a Bulldogs fan I often wondered this about Chris Grant, playing for a club like the Bulldogs often means his career is overlooked when talking about past players.
In my view Pav is one of the greats.
Could Matthew Pavlich be the most underrated player of all time?
The command centre reviews were a joke, even as a Stampeders fan, the Redblacks copped the rough end of the stick a couple of times. It didn’t improve across the other games either.
Canadian Football League 2017: Week 1 talking points
I am all for a Geelong team and think it can be very successful, whether that’s through promotion/relegation or a new franchise directly in the A-League.
Often missed is the sponsorship factor, a Geelong team would have great ability to have a big Australian and global brand in CottonOn as a potential major sponsor. CottonOn is very much heavily invested in the Geelong region with new multi million dollar headquarters getting built at Avalon Airport, they are currently partnered with the Cats and could be a big player for an A-League team.
Just a thought.
Geelong is ready for the A-League stage
Emotion definitely is a big issue and unlike Hutchy shouldn’t be cast aside.
That’s part of the issue and how much AFL has grown, when a crowd of 25-30k is no longer good enough. One wonders if North had a stadium like Geelong and it was a packed house whether the reaction would be the same? probably not.
Would Tassie embrace North? would they embrace a team simply called the Kangaroos?
Why Kangaroos shouldn't make the hop to Tassie
Like the idea, but much like with soccer, promotion/relegation isn’t something that is part of the culture of Australian sport where in England it is.
I fear that a relegated team in a championship would struggle to attract healthy crowds.
As for the Wests Tigers, their on field issues coincide with off field, you only have to start by looking at their training base.
Does the NRL's future lie in Super League?
Its quickly forgotten, Hamish.
North are not in a dark time as they had been previously, I found the whole relocation talk quite bizarre and as I said in the piece, knee jerky. Crowds of 28-35k while on the TV might not look great, they are solid crowds under any other sporting code around the world and with a decent stadium deal very viable.
Personally, don’t see North going anywhere, they making great strides off the field.

Interested to see how the Bulls pick 7 ends up, unsure how well he will transition into the NBA.
NBA Draft: The Lottery's concise review
Great piece!
So good to see the CFL get a bit of coverage here in Australia. I am a CFL fan (Calgary Stampeders) and love the game, I watch it more than the NFL, big reason is the times and days it is played.
I love how it’s three-downs and as showed today between Redblacks and Stamps, no matter how much you are up and what time is left, anyone can still win.
Long live the CFL.
The Bigger Gridiron: CFL 2017 Football kicks off today
Thanks for the reply, Mushi.
Oversight on my behalf with the Conn Smythe, you are correct though, still a great achievement.
Back-to-back Symthe trophies makes Crosby an all-time great
Plus the Murphy holding the ball when he kicked it, my point being, both resulted in Geelong goals.
Agree umpiring was pretty average.
Capitulation in Geelong: Bulldogs could head out of the eight
“wouldn’t be able to recognise Scotty Pippin, let alone Luc Longley.”
Then spells Pippen wrong.
It's time for A-League badges to join the 21st century
The 50 metre penalty overshadows the non holding the ball on Selwood prior when he was tackled trying to kick the ball and clearly drops it missing his boot, then Cloke gets into his back but that one is paid.
Capitulation in Geelong: Bulldogs could head out of the eight
Well said. But don’t let the truth get in the way of a good yarn.
Is it really 25 playing 22?
No worries. Call out if you need anything, I have supported them for years and have friends involved in their ultras group.
The little La Liga team that keeps raising the Eibar
Good read.
Reminds me of my Italian team in Serie A, Chievo, who rose through the ranks of Italian football from a community of less than 5,000 people and continue to survive in the top flight.
The little La Liga team that keeps raising the Eibar
The BBL will also eventually expand, it’s already been spoken about, as has the NBL for that matter.
Expanding the league and having different clubs and more games will keep interest, clubs won’t need to play each other more than home and away to fill out a season. You only have to read social media to gauge that people won’t pay for two home games that are spaced a month or so apart, only tonight I read that about Perth Glory games.
Some of the bids for expansion are more than one pub towns, but I agree, it isn’t a magic bullet.
No more stalling, we need a 14-team comp right now
It’s not expansion for expansions sake, the league and code has stagnated, everyone can see it.
With BBL so strong and having sell out crowds, plus adding more matches next season, NBL rejuvenated well and selling out crowds and so much hype around AFLW, you don’t think the FFA need to look a freshening up the league?
The FFA would be crazy (though they are not because 2 new clubs coming) to sit around and think the current setup will continue to have the A-League going along fine. Landscape of sport in Aus is changing as we speak.
No more stalling, we need a 14-team comp right now
That’s why I raised Wollongong in the post, they have their own catchment area for fans, different to Sydney or WSW. 8,000+ turned up to their FFA Cup clash against Sydney, a committed team in the A-League you would hope that the average over a season would be 10,000+ for them.
Funny you mention Scottish football, my team in Scotland plays in the Championship, average 1,500-2,000 per game and yet made a profit last season. Big crowds are great, but small crowds can also keep clubs in the black.
No more stalling, we need a 14-team comp right now
The outrage is hilarious, especially from Atlas and ESPN.
People pointing to the punch stats is also funny, those stats come from a person sitting ringside pushing buttons and reacting to what he thinks he sees.
Horn the world champ. End of story.
