A toss of the coin that’s what it is. Even if the heart says Collingwood but the head says GWS.

I’m just hoping the ‘pies’ have the ‘legs’ to last all 4 qtrs.

Collingwood vs GWS Giants: Semi Final Forecast

Gee… I’m sure there’s a Thesis in that (well researched) article. ?

One week to go...

Good article…with erudite comments. I maybe stating the ‘bleeding obvious’ but my take on the Richmond dominance is purely down to their injury list, or rather lack there of.

Put any team on the park at full strength sans even the slightest ‘niggle’…game over my friends.

A simplistic view, but one that every team when playing Richmond could of said “if only/what if.” But, reality is ‘what is’.

The Eagles are destined to be the ‘what if’ team of 2018

Don’t want that 3rd position on the ladder…gotta play Richmond first semi’s.

Yeah, I know you get a second bite, but the mental game knowing full well that you’ll play Richmond in the GF.

Can a full-strength Pies side defeat the Tigers?

I can’t believe I just read that whole article, in this day of short tension spans….oh look! A squirrel.

Anyway, what an erudite article, one that had me paying attention.

Well written, and no doubt well researched. A thesis in the making.

Grand final at the MCG til 2057 shows limits of AFL's power

I see it more as a self-assuring train crash in-waiting.

Nailing my colours to the mast…I’m a Collingwood fan (there I said it). Feel sorry for me.

Paper Magpies: Collingwood’s offseason has a scent of desperation

Good article.

You could say write Hawthorn off at your peril. Yep, their aging ‘backbone’ players – Lewis, Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson, with another year of the ‘crash or crash through’ intimidatory style of play, will it hold up against the new tide of GWS, Doggies style of fast possession?

Where to now for Hawthorn?

One of a kind. A man who earned the title ‘legend’, in a world where it is too readily used, and by all accounts a true gent from an era when you actually had to accomplish something to be a star.

Muhammad Ali dead at 74

Quote “If or when Buckley goes it will be messy and painful for Eddie and the Pies.” Unquote.

That is the ‘Elephant in the room’. More so, Eddie. I believe his pride will come before the fall. I understand that he (Eddie) has close to two decades with the club as part of the corporate management, it’s his perceived dalliances’ into the coaching world that is Collingwood’s problem.

Where to now for Collingwood?

Great read! If not one of the most erudite articles I have read in a long while I don’t know what is.

Alastair Clarkson's contract sacrifice

“Cometh the hour, cometh the man”? Too early to call.

Dr Jones and Mr Jones: A tale of two sides

Yup, I reckon some are being a bit disingenuous to Carlton, and their win.

@Harry Houdini re:Is Lyon a one trick pony? Thus far into a long season (for Fremantle), it’s certainly looking that way. And, he is not a coach that ‘rebuilding’ will sit comfortably with him.

Sitting on the Dock of the bay: Fremantle anchor the AFL ladder

Short, sharp, and sweet…to the point.

Yup, gotta agree, if only because it is early days into the 2016 home & away season. Lets see how this ‘sprint’ at the start of the season pans out. Injuries, suspensions etc. As always, it’ll be a battle of attrition…last man standing stuff.

This season apart from all others has shifted the ‘game’, maybe some astute coaches read this early on, and others maybe just behind the ‘drag’ curve.

Quote “The only coach in the league that deserves the pressure is Nathan Buckley, it is clear that the Eddie McGuire succession plan has not worked.” Unquote. If anyone is under the pump, it’s gotta be Eddie! Normally, a fairly erudite business (lets face it AFL is a business) man, this one I reckon he ‘jumped’ too early

Isn't it a little early to start coach bashing?

A slight departure from the original topic, but sticking with the theme of Essendon upsetting a few teams along the way. Bit of a long bow, and not really a believer in fairy tale endings. However, is it too much to stretch the imagination to compare Essendon with Leicester City FC?

Not for a minute am I suggesting that Essendon with be sitting on top spot, but, they might make a ‘fist’ of it and win a few/lot more than were/are given credit.

As I said I don’t believe in fairy tales….but you never know.

Do the Dons have the Power to cause an upset?

@anon – informative piece.

I’ll leave aside the figures, as I wouldn’t know, everything else reads well.

I dunno, but it looks, on paper, not a bad list to have. Definitely has the ‘cattle’ to have a tilt at the flag.

Dismal Dockers and Pies show the importance of intensity

Aren’t the basic tenants of journalism:

Truth and Accuracy
Independence
Fairness and Impartiality
Accountability

Now, as much as I like Robbo, listening to him on ‘a certain radio station’ (not too sure about product placement), and 360 he is insightful and does (did?) come across as sorta ethical kinda guy. This article, and only naming Collingwood smacks a bit of not following the tenants of journalism – fairness & impartiality. This is all predisposing that there are other clubs. Allegedly.

The Collingwood debate continues

Dunno if I read it, or heard it on the wireless/TV, doesn’t Rosco only coach ready made teams? Ie, St. Kilda, Freo. He is not of the coaching ilk that will be in a ‘rebuilding’ phase. Pretty much a hard taskmaster (aren’t all coaches?), so isn’t prepared to have a bunch of young guns with less than 25 games in their legs.

Prepared to be proved wrong.

Dismal Dockers and Pies show the importance of intensity

Quote “but is it possible the game has shifted past Ross Lyons game plan? Unquote

Couldn’t of said it better. Yup, gotta agree Macca. The game has moved on.

Dismal Dockers and Pies show the importance of intensity

Or, just to add to my remarks.

Maybe the conditioning/strength team at freo think that as the season unfolds their players will be able to withstand the onslaught of the ‘running game’. Read that as – injuries, because of the lighter bodies. Yeah, I know a kilo here/there doesn’t seem much. That, if they can keep in touch with the top 4, whoever that will be.

Dismal Dockers and Pies show the importance of intensity

Not trying to go against what I said before…but. There’s always a but. You have probably got a smile on how your ‘cats’ performed. I’d be happy, (I ain’t my team lost, miserably).

Maybe your round 1 does a season make.

AFL Round 1 knee-jerk reactions: What to ignore and what not to

Just thinking that whilst watching pieces of the game – Doggies V Freo.

Freo definitely looked ‘flat’ and to compare some, if not most, ‘they’ looked heavier. Other teams have taken heed in that less rotations means teams must have extra fuel in the tank, don’t carry weight more cardio and lean & mean.

Dismal Dockers and Pies show the importance of intensity

Yup, Round 1 does not a season make.

AFL Round 1 knee-jerk reactions: What to ignore and what not to

I like the Pavlov’s Dog reference – how true….Yap, when I tell you to yap.

Notice the salivating hoards when Dustin Martin was ‘drunk & disorderly’ in a restaurant? The social media went into ‘critical mass’ over an, now to be a false accusation, incident. Anyway, damage done.

I guess you can’t legislate against stupidity on both accounts.

Mitchell Pearce: The fault lies not in footy stars, but in ourselves

Don’t know if there are parallels, but, would the following be similar:

In 1986, Gary Buckenara, under contract to Hawthorn, wanted to join the formed West Coast Eagles. And Mathew Robran wanted to go home to Adelaide but was forced to stand aside for 12 months.
