Disinterest.

Footy race: Well-run AFL is miles ahead of lumbering NRL - and here are six reasons why

Yeah, it was broadcast on Foxtel and rated very well.
Nice to see national teams play each other.
I do love how the AFL tried so many times to spread itself around the world – and failed.
They seem to have given up on that – no surprise.
Then there are the ‘Tests’ against the Irish for which the rules have to be changed. That’s always a good laugh.
So too when all All Australian team is picked to play -well – no one actually.
I seem to remember an AFL ‘world cup’ played as a curtain raiser to a club game.
What a hoot.

Footy race: Well-run AFL is miles ahead of lumbering NRL - and here are six reasons why

Much too kind to Cronulla – should be close to the bottom.
Disgraceful performance.
There is something very wrong.
The defence fell off a cliff in the finals last year and it has not been fixed.
Any team that goes at them hard wins.
Cronulla are soft – everywhere.
I thought it was just the left side of Moylan and Wilton but on Saturday night it was everyone.
Fitzgibbon needs to start dropping players to get their full attention.
No team wins a title with poor defence and Cronulla’s is putrid.

NRL Power Rankings: More Dolphins magic, a Souths juggernaut and the less said about Dragons the better

What a fine man Nicho is – full of compassion and kindness.
Greenie’s kids will never forget what he did – neither will the people who witnessed it I suspect.
Superb advertisement for Cronulla and the NRL.

It’s not weak to be nice: Hynes shows power of compassion as Sharks star rises into Origin calculations

For a long time Gal captained a team that was ordinary to say the least.
We had a good era around 2008 but it was then pretty grim until Flanno worked his recruiting magic circa 2015.
For long periods Gal was our only rep player and he did a mountain of work.
As for his record against Qld – any NSW captain was going to have a losing record against a team that included Smith, Cronk, Slater, Thurston and Inglis and a stellar supporting cast.
Three Immortals, maybe four in that lot.
In fact the series NSW did win in their reign was a dodgy result due to a shocking ref decision.
NSW just didn’t have the cattle – Pearce v Thurston sums it up very well.
Gal is a legend of the club in my view – up there with ET, Steve Rogers and Gavin Miller.

Which players should your team stop persisting with?

Cowboys wunderkind Jeremiah Nanai can count himself incredibly lucky to only be rubbed out for four weeks after his atrocious hip-drop tackle on Sharks forward Braden Hamlin-Uele, who now has medial ligament damage in his left knee and will be out for as many weeks.
Spot on.
Should have been eight.

NRL Magic Round preview talking points: Who’s excited to watch some wagering content?

Just remembered a comment from Ennis from reflecting on his time with the club and the GF.
He said at dummy half when they were under pressure and they needed safe and tough hit-ups he always looked for Gallen.
That’s a fair compliment.

Which players should your team stop persisting with?

We shall indeed agree to disagree.
Cheers.

Which players should your team stop persisting with?

Don’t agree with you about Gal – in my view his performance only really declined in his last year – understandable at that age.
But I do agree with you on Wado.
I think him coming off the bench is the way to go and if Cronulla lose Wilton he can slot in on the edge.
He’s still as tough as they come.

Which players should your team stop persisting with?

Oh dear.
I’ve been a member of this site long before the Dolphins joined.
They were the Qld state team I supported.
I don’t want to go the trouble of changing my name.
Got it now?
Nothing better to be interested in?

Tigers terrrrific: Wooden spooners cause boilover of the year by upsetting Panthers in wet at Bathurst

I am a Cronulla fan but I am delighted for the Tigers and their supporters.
Great stuff.

Tigers terrrrific: Wooden spooners cause boilover of the year by upsetting Panthers in wet at Bathurst

I had no opinion either way though I’d never warmed to him.
I have a very strong opinion now though.

ANALYSIS: If the rest of the NRL weren't taking Cronulla seriously, they are now - and Nanai facing hefty hip-drop ban

After Nanai put Hamlyn-Uele out of the game and condemned him to weeks on the sideline with a torn medial this was Payten’s reaction: “Braden jumped up pretty quickly to throw the ball at him, so it musn’t have been too bad initially.”
Oh yeah.
Tell it to Hamlyn-Uele and Cronulla who now have their two best props sidelined with serious injuries.
He must have not seen Hamlyn-Uele helped off the field and then having to use crutches to get around.
The coach of this rabble also reckoned Hess’s trip was just worth a penalty.
Of course he did.
Then there was the elbow to Talakai’s jaw.
Great stuff.
Delighted his lot copped a flogging – Payten’s pain was great to see.
As for Cronulla their backline is great to watch.
Such precision and slickness – multiple threats, players in motion, superb skills with Nicho and Moylan running the orchestra like conductors.
Defence was much better too but they will face much better teams than the Cows and it’s an area they must keep working on.

ANALYSIS: If the rest of the NRL weren't taking Cronulla seriously, they are now - and Nanai facing hefty hip-drop ban

Wonderful.
Just adds even more to this fine man’s reputation.
He’s a huge asset to Cronulla and the NRL.
Pity the same can’t be said for Todd Payten.
After Nanai put Hamlyn-Uele out of the game and condemned him to weeks on the sideline with a torn medial this was his reaction: “Braden jumped up pretty quickly to throw the ball at him, so it musn’t have been too bad initially.”
Oh yeah.

'Every time we thought we couldn't love Nicho more, he goes and does this'

Someone said it was the “most complete” performance this year from Cronulla.
Agreed.
The defence was much better – just a couple of Dearden breaks to worry about but still work to do – lots of it.
The attack was as usual exemplary – what a great team to watch – threats everywhere.
Not sure if I have ever seen a backline that is so sharp and seamless and threatening.
The precision in passing and execution is superb.
Having said that the Cows were dreadful.
And Payten’s response was pathetic.
Nanai puts Hamlyn-Uele out of the game for weeks and his response is to mimimise the injury: “Braden jumped up pretty quickly to throw the ball at him, so it musn’t have been too bad initially.”
Crap.
He also reckons a penalty is fine for a trip.
Bullshit.
Of course he does – he coaches this rabble.
They got what they deserved and so did he.
Pity Cronulla has lost a key player for an extended period.
With Rudolph on the sidelines for weeks more it’s a problem for the Sharks – our two best props out of action.
Plenty of players could have won the Paul Green Medal.
But Nicho deserved it.
And he added to his wonderful reputation after the game when he gave his jersey to Green’s son and his medal to his daughter.
Class act.
Payten should take a leaf out of his book – or try to.

ANALYSIS: If the rest of the NRL weren't taking Cronulla seriously, they are now - and Nanai facing hefty hip-drop ban

The Sharks are a long way from where they need to be.
They let in 20 against a vastly understrenght Dogs.
Not good enough – as usual.
Also not good enough – the commentators.
I cringe every time I turn the TV on and Steve Roach’s less than dulcet tones are heard.
But he’s only one of many not up to it.
Peter Sterling was the best – with daylight second.
The Benaud of rugby league commentary.
He told us not just what we were seeing but also why.
He also had a fine sense of humour and enormous credibility based on so many decades in the game.
Almost cried when he retired – partly due to nostalgia but also knowing what was left to do the job.
The Footy Show is dismal these days – Johns and Fittler really aren’t up to it.
Such basic stuff and then they’re unleashed on the game coverage too.
As for Fox, slim picking there too – though Cooper Cronk provides something approaching Sterlo.
I have hopes for him.
Ennis has good tactical knowledge as does Parker – the latter is willing to have a crack at players and coaches – he’s solid.
The rest – Tallis?
If he uses the “fight over a bone” line one more time I’ll scream.
No thanks.
Pity – the game is spectacular these days – it’s a shame it’s not matched by the quality in commentary.

NRL Round 9 preview talking points: Wighton right on, NZ stooged again and please stop shouting, Mr Thompson

Mulitalo needs to focus.
Too much of the muglair about him in my view.
Too much celebration before tries are scored – sometimes they don’t turn out to be tries because he stuffs up.
He has blown a number of them this year.
The one against the Dogs was a shocker – he has plenty of space.
As for the rest of it – a pass mark at best.
They played a team decimated by injury and couldn’t put them away.
Let it 20 points too.
Most unconvincing.
At this stage Penrith, Broncos and Souths have nothing to worry about.

ANALYSIS: 'Fearless' Nicho is ready for Origin after putting battered Bulldogs to the sword - and Burton looks at home in the 7

The Roosters deserved all the penalties against them.

ANALYSIS: Nicho dominates again, Victor and Cheese binned and more hip-drop drama

They have lost interest in defence.
It’s a shambles.
The left side in particular is leaking tries.
If they don’t fix it they haven’t got a hope of doing anything in this comp.
Fitzgibbon, in his comments that I have read/heard this season, hasn’t had a lot, if anything, to say about defence.
He should be talking about it all the time.
After the way they were blown off the park in the finals fadeout last year they should have been flogged in the pre-season with one defence session after another after another after another etc etc
I doubt that happened – certainly on the evidence so far this season.
The players should have been ashamed at their meek exit, the manner of it, and blowing a chance to make the grand final.
If a team doesn’t have a strong defence it can forget about winning a title.
I have no faith this lot can get it right.
Matt Johns wrote yesterday that Cronulla has developed into one of those sides that has the attitude that ‘if you score 30, we’ll score 32’.
Sadly, I think he is right.

'They know what they're about - we're learning': Fitzyball far from finished article as apprentice sets sights on master Robbo

What a fine man.
Delighted he’ll see out his career at the Sharks.
He a huge asset on and off the field and will no doubt inspire a generation of kids to play for the Sharks or league generally.
A huge asset to the NRL too.
Fitzbibbon deserves credit for taking a punt.
He’s the club’s greatest player signing since Gal in my view.
Now, if only Cronulla can learn how to tackle again – though I am not hopeful of that.

Hynes signs his way into million-dollar marquee club: Sharks tie down Dally M winner on long-term mega deal

Toilets, phone booths – what is this obsession you have with visualising men in confined spaces?

My parents were wise people and I am going to take their advice.
I’ll leave you to your toilets.

Your comment is hilarious.
How old are you?

You think you made a “point”?
It’s in his title.
Yet you need me to make that clear?
Stick to toilets.

You mentioned toilets twice.
Can’t you even remember what you write?
Oh dear.
No good Toilet Man.
