It was obvious last season that Gill would move on after he called out Graham, then had to publicly support him after the “extensive worldwide search for a coach”. Finding the next Gills, Genias and Horwills are important but it makes the drought longer if that’s all you have. It’s a bit chicken and egg. Do you entice good development players with a great marquee? Or vice versa.

There’s also been a lot of talk since Thorn came to coach that he may pull on the boots. As great as this looks on paper, would it undermine any of the developing players or would having him on the field be beneficial long term?

Queensland rugby is in a fine mess

I am hopeful that the Reds can use the 60/7 rule as an enticement to any fringe Wallabies that have moved overseas early. They certainly can’t compete financially with Japan or France but having a new coach/chairman/ceo and a chance of the Gold jersey might start to look like a decent incentive.

Trevor Gillmeister once said that Taylor would put in some solid work at training and then stop to look at a plane fly overhead. It pretty much summed up his career. The last 3 or 4 rounds last season when he was playing his best footy for the club made me angrier than watching him pass a ball to the touch judge. Such a waste

Five massive overreactions to Round 1 of the NRL

As a long time fan of the varied Gold Coast RL teams, the phrases “I think we’ll give it a proper shake this season”, or “If we can just stay healthy, you never know”, followed by the always popular “We’re a real dark horse!”, have never passed my lips. I live for pained mediocrity with a few shots of “Why couldn’t you do this all season?” The last part was mainly in reference to Dave Taylor.

I’m still waiting for a board clean out before i commit financially to the club. There isn’t a lot of fresh ideas floating about Ballymore

Richard Graham sacked as Reds coach

He doesn’t have to understand Theoretical Physics to have a valued opinion on the scheduling of League. I’m sure nobody is going to ask Stephen Hawking how many rounds should be played in a season

Thurston wants NRL cut back to 22 rounds

I doubt this “merger” has any merit to it. More of a way to pluck the nostalgia heartstrings and to remind of us of their failures to present a solid expansion case. As a Titans fan, i don’t know why anybody would merge with them. Just let them die their inevitable death so that i can go back to supporting any team that beats Manly and Broncos.

Could there not be a “Super” group of disbanded ARL and Super League teams that can travel the country playing at all the old grounds? Western-Northern-South Qld-Hunter-Newton-Adelaide? Am i missing any?

Selectors will be looking to give a new batsmen a start. I think his name is S. Marsh

It’s only selfish if he goes for less than 50 off a wild shot. Making 145 and bringing your team back into the contest seems like a pretty good idea to me

Am i the only one seeing the SA v ENG T20 scorecard at the top of this page?

If Optus are going for a “customer only” broadcast, 6 months is not a very long time to start pulling viewers. I imagine they had a broadcast plan before they placed their bid so why didn’t they outline their plans on announcement?

Is the new EPL broadcast deal really a good thing for fans?
