‘Gomes a quality player’

I doubt that’s been said too often before this

If that was worth a red then 3 or 4 others should have got reds in the lead-up to it

Great news. If they played like the seniors did against CCM they will have caused a stir

I wouldn’t care if Murdoch was just an execrable lump of carbon running a media company.

My objection is that he runs companies that have deliberately and cynically dragged politics into a poisonous sewer, here, in the US and in the UK.

Murdoch deserves a large dose of the blame for climate inaction and all the kooky culture wars that dominate our politics now.

Not so AR – I think you’ll find quite a few fans across a number of sports who reject Fox because they detest the evil Murdoch empire. There are lots of comments to that effect on the various tabs here.

I share your despair Punter. The league is miles better than it was 12 to 15 years ago. For example, I remember Sydney FC in the Lavicka years and am so glad now is not then.

But Australian sports fans don’t want quality Punter – they want brain-damaging collisions and courageous farnarkling.

Come off it Waz – I’d bet the people at APL are scarfing pints of Nexium as we speak. They might not be saying so publicly but what would that achieve anyway.

Waz’s comment elsewhere under this article risks being buried but it’s spot on and worth repeating over and over again:

“Before we get to media coverage and attracting new fans, surely a focus has to be on keeping the ones we do have and bringing back the lapsed followers!”

Baccus, Rowles net first goals as Socceroos cruise past Lebanon but Arnie sweats on injuries

You should be ashamed of yourself

Baccus, Rowles net first goals as Socceroos cruise past Lebanon but Arnie sweats on injuries

On the evidence of last night, if goal-wards is what Baccus meant then that’s not where it would have went.

Last night’s style was so timidly blah I am recanting my previous defence of Arnie.

Hrustic looked like he had turned up for the wrong team when he came on and tried playing forwards.

Everybody is being very polite – we were awful. Under any pressure most of the team can’t hold the ball or pass safely.

Yengi…no
Metcalfe…why?
Baccus…gives away the ball far too often to play where he plays
Taggart…at the risk of inciting Scout, if A-League form counts why take a seventh look at an old guy when an untried young guy is doing just as well
Iredale…Bundesliga 2 and he has barely played so why??
Atkinson…permanently hesitant for some reason

On the other hand, Hrustic at least knows how to do an attacking pass (it’s too bad Taggart and Duke can’t time a run). Irvine too, he does more good stuff (attack and defence) than gets acknowledged by many.

We can never have too much of that Randy

'Would be a tragedy': Can the Jets find a new owner, or are they about to spiral out of the A-League?

I guess you’d have to start by shutting down every other Football league in the world. Only then could Football replicate the global absence that makes AFL so marketable locally.

'Would be a tragedy': Can the Jets find a new owner, or are they about to spiral out of the A-League?

Scout, you can’t have it both ways (pardon the expression). His sexuality is part of his personal life and, as you point out, because he has been brave enough to speak about it it’s also a huge subject of interest t many people.

Someday gay footballers (male) won’t even have to come out and when they get married nobody will bat an eyelid.

Cavallo got over his problem – everybody else has to get over theirs.

Yes indeedy…no such problem in women’s football

The Roar's A-League Men tips and predictions: Round 21

“as usual his personal life takes preference over his actual profession, which has caused an issue within the playing group for multiple seasons now.”

Cavallo has been injured for large chunks of the last 2 seasons, so he hasn’t been part of the playing group.

Also, it’s not his fault that his PERSONAL life is of so much interest to everybody else. He’s before his time when it comes to Football.
