No but they’re pretending to have a set of values that are inconsistent with their actions.

Israel Folau issued breach notice, has 48 hours to respond

Quoting Raelene “It was made clear to him that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action.”

How about RA accepting sponsorship dollars from an airline aligned with a State that suppresses LGBT rights, throws them in jail and in many cases subjects them to torture?

Rather hypocritical of RA my view.

Israel Folau issued breach notice, has 48 hours to respond

Maria looks pretty happy attending local church service with Israel yesterday based on page 11 of today’s Telegraph. I think your read on that one is way as previously mentioned.

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

Hardly leadership Mary. Doesn’t take great leadership to sack somebody, particularly when sponsors and the media are holding a gun to your head.

By sacking Israel Folau, Rugby Australia showed what true leadership looks like

They may well of discussed it – you don’t know if they did or didn’t.

As I pointed out earlier when Israel made his initial comments a year ago, Maria wrote on Instagram: “Stand with God no matter what … Don’t be afraid to stand up for the truth, even if that means you will be standing alone.”

Nothing wrong with her comment on the surface but it suggests to me she is liked minded.

Nonetheless she may well need to distance herself from his comments for sake of her own career (but hasn’t yet).

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

Why do we need to assume anything about his family?

When Israel made his initial homophobic comment a year ago, Maria wrote on Instagram: “Stand with God no matter what … Don’t be afraid to stand up for the truth, even if that means you will be standing alone.”

That could potentially lead one to make a few assumptions…. possibly that she supports her husband.
Still think it is best to leave her out of it however. I tend to take the view that commenting on someone’s family is off limits especially when you don’t know them.

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

I think it’s a stretch to assume what goes on in his family. I’d think his wife (or partner) is likely of similar belief to stay with someone of such beliefs. But again I’m making a big assumption there and best not to make assumptions about the family life of others.

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

I struggle with how anybody could be traumatised by anything Folau says. He’s not a respected or influential figure and and his rumblings are just delusional rant.

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

I’m guessing Israel’s Mrs wants to live in France for a fear years and he’s got a bigger contract waiting there. In that country the Media dont care about the silly rantings of an athlete and nor should they.

Israel Folau does not deserve the sack

Why do people care so much about Folau’s opinion? His skill is playing football. He’d struggle to score 60 on an IQ test.
One of the problems with the media in this country is the desire to put athletes like Folau on pedestals they aren’t fit to nor want to stand on.
I don’t buy the kids are watching / role model argument. If your kid looks to an athlete to guide their moral compass your parenting needs some work.

Rugby union would be a more inclusive, kinder place without Israel Folau and his backwards views

Kudos to him and good luck to him. He’s sacrificed an easy $1m contract in the NRL for a chance of a lifetime. I think the likes of Rothfield and Kent giving him a hard time for coming back into the country and not talking to the media are out of line. He’s under no obligation to speak to them and is no longer beholden to a game run by the media. It’s not in his interest to create any sort of Jaryd Hayne style hype about his opportunity. Strikes me as guy who’d rather avoid that in any case. Hope he makes it.

Valentine Holmes officially has an NFL team

I don’t have much faith in Cogger either. Watched a couple Dogs reserve grade games and don’t think he has been that good.

Kieran Foran set to miss three months

I think the Dogs need JMK rotating at 9. I think Des stunted Lichaa but ultimately he is too slow and makes poor decisions. Unless Nu Brown can get back to fitness and play a JMK role at 9.

Kieran Foran set to miss three months

Given the structure of the salary cap at present a loan system isnt a bad idea.

I didn’t realise people thought about the West Tigers 🙂

Wests Tigers fans deserve better

Great photo of presumably a good athlete in action.

Can’t see why anyone would want to troll it with negativity. Did anyonescridlly see these negative comments? Not asking for them to be repeated but I’ve spotted some media commentators suggesting it is fake news and nothing but a publicity stunt for a game that is capping out in viewing popularity.
I don’t have a view on this as I didnt see the original publication with the alleged negative trolling nor do I watch AFL (men’s nor women’s).

Agree Peeko. Many people just think of relocation in a geographical sense and ignore or fail to understand demographics, finances, tv ratings and potential for corporate sponsorship. Those who promote the idea of culling Sydney teams ignore the fact that (outside of the Broncos) matches between traditional Sydney teams rate the highest and subsidise other teams via grants that come from TV rights.

NRL expansion: Where to and how should we do it?

Most arguments I hear for “consistency” of punishments across different subjects are fallacious.
That would imply consistency in the nature and magnitude of offences.
There is such a thing as degrees of behaviour.
Not all murderers get the same sentence for example.
Putting aside whether or not the Storm’s cheating was worse than the Sharks they occurred under different administrations who decided the respective punishments based on their own lens and view of the matters at those points in time.
It’s not for Greenberg to go back and say he disagreed with Gallops handling of the Storm situation nor would he have the facts to do so.

If the Sharks title isn’t stripped then the Storm must get theirs back

I took his gambling parallel to mean it also creates elevated interest in games and even brings in a revenue stream but we don’t let gambling companies interview players. Isn’t it a conflict of interest point he is concerned about?
I think the comparison can be made as I know I only watch certain games due to having a bet on and have mates who only watch certain games due to SuperCoach (they tell me so).
On that note I don’t play SuperCoach but why would super coach need to interview players?

Sorry Gus, sex tapes are a rugby league problem

I could be wrong about this but since I joined (after all I’m only a rookie) I’ve noticed that if ones opinion doesn’t confirm to those jumping off the moral high ground in regard to the PC outrage issue of the day you tend to be asking the same thing – forgive me for having an different opinion.
Still the banter can be mildly amusing at times. By the way thats not a reference to anyone I exchanged responses with in this article – it was all clean debate.

De Belin and NRL set for Federal Court showdown yet the Dragons must make the call

Heres a link to an article quoting former Crown Prosecutor Margaret Cunneen on how the NRL’s stance can prejudice JDBs case and impair the ability for a fair trial. Focus on her comments as that’s merely the point I was conveying earlier. She’s about the most credentialed voice you could get on this principle.

De Belin and NRL set for Federal Court showdown yet the Dragons must make the call

As a final thing on this point former Crown Prosecutor Margaret Cunneen made these comments in relation to how the NRLs stance could prejudice De Belins case and impact the ability for a fair trial (need to read down a bit to get to the prejudice point):

“Ms Cunneen believes that the NRL are duty-bound to support the presumption of innocence, particularly now that they have ‘the recent experience of learning that false allegations have been made against players because they are players.’

By way of example, she points out that the allegations against Brett Stewart were ‘proved to have been fabricated’. She adds that the complaints of domestic violence against Shaun Kenny-Dowall were found to be absolutely groundless. She warns that the proposed reaction to an untested allegation would give ‘enormous power to derail the careers of young men to whom they take a dislike.’

There is no parallel, she insists, with the standing down of allegedly corrupt police officers. This is because of the risk of further offence in policing, if there were an offence committed. As she explains, ‘there is no risk of offending this way on the football field’.

She declares firmly that suspension is ‘an extra-curial punishment’. As such, she says, it ‘cannot be justified’. This could prejudice de Belin’s chances for a fair trial which would be unfair to both sides, especially if this resulted in an appeal.

She scathingly dismisses the argument that the players are ‘role models’ for society as ‘ridiculous’. ‘They should be role models for the playing of their sport only,’ she says. Making them role models for all conduct outside playing makes them ‘vulnerable to constant scrutiny and malicious allegations.’

Ms Cunneen concludes by calling on the NRL to be practical and down-to-earth, recognising that their players are ‘likely to be targets for false allegations’. She warns that this is particularly so since ‘some sections of the media are keen to fuel bad publicity against the traditional working-man sport of rugby league (which the feminists love to hate even though there are now women’s teams which are becoming ever more skilful and entertaining).’

De Belin and NRL set for Federal Court showdown yet the Dragons must make the call

That would work in his favour in my opinion. His defence could say inability to get a fair jury hearing and request the judge preside over it (they need to satisfy the judge this is the case though).
If the evidence is simply he said versus she said (I’m not saying it is though as I’ve got no idea what the evidence is) then judge dismisses it as it’s not met the required test and because he’s not uneducated and emotional like potential jurors can be.
Not saying this will happen I’m saying the more hysteria surrounding his situation the better off he is.

De Belin and NRL set for Federal Court showdown yet the Dragons must make the call

Being tongue in cheek with this comment but what happens if the disgruntled NRL fan is a ST George supporter? He might get off regardless. Bet he’s hoping there are no QLDers on there.

De Belin and NRL set for Federal Court showdown yet the Dragons must make the call

Prejudice that is strong enough can mean there is no jury.

If there is a jury the type of disgruntled NRL fan you mention is exactly what I’m taking about – albeit he could be disgruntled towards either bias but you don’t know and it’s an example or a juror who has been pre influenced. Hence my first point.
