Les, I am a life long ‘pies fan and I remember all those incidents\luck\injustices you’ve mentioned and agree completely. We have let it define us. We have overachieved to reach many of those grand finals and then reality has bitten on the big day. Both the Geelong and Swans finals losses this year, had free kicks that could have been paid, but all games, especially finals the whistle goes away in the last few minutes. Not bias just how it goes. We had the bounce of the ball for a lot of weeks this year and it deserted us at the end. But we need a gun key forward, another key defender and more grunt in the middle if we want to win the big one. Credit to Geelong and to Richmond who have sacrificed salary and brought in guns. Cameron, Dangerfield, Lynch, Prestia. They have brought in the journeyman as well, but they get big names that make the difference. We don’t do that. We need to aim bigger with recruitment.

Go ‘pies

The Collingwood lament: If only...

I like the articles and while people may say Les is ploughing the same furrow, it is because he (and many of us) want real change. Get the egos out of the club and calm heads in. How often have we heard from Richmond’s president? What about Frank Costa? He setup Geelong and then stepped aside.

I have laughed/sneered at other clubs who’s fans drop off when their team is struggling. Collingwood didn’t have that problem, until now. Why? Because we know it stinks at lots of levels, but its all accountability. Board, recruiting, coaching is all a mess. I have supported Buckley for years, but 10 years is too long and the style of play is horrendous and without hope.

Maintain the rage Les.

Political uncertainty and a lack of vision at Collingwood

Les, that is spot on. You are speaking for lots of us. EGM needed now.

An open letter to Eddie McGuire

Les, we need the 100 signatures for the EGM. How do we do it?

Collingwood keep finding new ways to disenfranchise their fans

Nice thoughts.

Collingwood bombed at least 4 goals on a platter moving the ball quickly. Hoskin-Elliott was culprit 3 times I think. De Goey 3 points. Definitely skill errors, but not as bad as you think. I was really surprised at the chosen team. Can’t see Josh Thomas in best 22. And why is Ruscoe in when Rantall & Bianco are more skilled and highly rated and not given a game. Agree that Daicos was played in the wrong position.

I feel for Grundy – are you going to say to no to the money? No ruckman is worth that, should have been spent on a key forward or mid, but it wasn’t. But he is going to be a whipping boy now unless he is BOG. He is not the big marking ruckman, rather an extra mid and I think that we miss that big marks in someone like a McEvoy takes, but that was the decision the club made. He did OK the other night, smashed them in the hitouts and did take some marks. But hitouts aren’t turning into clearances.

I think when you look at Sydney, Brisbane etc and how well coached they are, I do think the bucks stop this year.

Collingwood breaking

Spot on. I’m still cranky from a logical point of view, because we did was fundamentally shithouse football and business wise and no amount of spin can cover it up.

The top ten Collingwood fictions going around

Yes, Maxy deserves a chance. Never played a home test! Steve Smith got him out of the team when he was captain and was pretty damning about him. But they pick for the T20Is & ODIs so it mustn’t be a cultural thing.
Our first class fixtures make it very hard to know who is in form. Harris makes big runs at first class level. Is he too good for the Shield but not good enough for tests? You could open with him in SA and put Puckowski at 5?
But the bowlers didn’t get the job done twice on a 5th day, so something is wrong. I think there should have been some rotation in place. Michael Neser has been the bridesmaid for a long time. Give him a run. I don’t know what to think about Lyon, normally a spinner given a 5th day would be rubbing his hands together, but not this summer.

So should Smith

Bring Maxy in for Wade. Dynamic bat, handy bowler, great fielder and very poorly treated by selectors for whatever reason.

Harris deserves a chance at the top.
