I think there are far worse sides than Collingwood and am staggered that you think they will finish last
Sure it’s not a great list and they have a huge problem converting but please last is a good headline
Injuries killed them last year the backline is arguably as good as any and they had two huge parts of that missing for the majority of the season in Howe and Moore
There issue is around key marking forwards the don’t have any!
Mihochek is admirable and gives his everything every week but he is not a big marking forward
Injuries as with all clubs will be huge this year the team that keeps close to its best side will see improvement on the previous years teams in the lower half don’t have depth of experience in their lists that’s why they are in the bottom half and then you have clubs who are on the decline list ageing and have to cone to terms with a rebuild
To use last season as you have as reason why they will fail is interesting as you have not taken into consideration what was going on in the club
You had a president who was very popular with the players and was shown the door a coach that had lost passion for the job you bring in the racism aspect whilst it would be fair to say the clubs effort in this has been ordinary but to suggest it had affected on field performance is a long bow at best
You have a new coach new president new attitude new game plan and they have blooded a big group of young players who have been in the system for a couple of years you will start seeing significant improvement in them
They are a long way off from winning a flag but to say they will finish last is joke

Why Collingwood will claim the 2022 wooden spoon

Because he can be covered easily and his attitude is questionable wanting to see who the coach is not the right attitude

The real rebuild starts now from the board the coach the coaching panel to the playing group it will take two years which is not as long as most rebuild
We have suffered injuries to good players over the last two years which has not helped us trade out Sidebottom and Maynard Cox which will provide the currency to get Daicos recruit some young Key forwards and get them into a development program to can’t track them

Finally!!!!!
I have been banging on about the game plan for years
Not only is it ordinary but it does not work with the playing group they have
You change the game plan or the players
Interestingly the got rid of Hocking as he challenged the status quo
I think the Maquire era will be questioned in time as poor return when you consider his friendship with Buckley honest appraisal was never allowed Buckley friendship with Sanderson and you can’t see he has any impact on the team

The case against reappointing Nathan Buckley

Yes I understand that but I think he could play that role Howe was playing Howe is about the same height

Is it time to stick a fork in the Pies?

True Adams injury is hurting us like Daicos in the middle

Is it time to stick a fork in the Pies?

I just think it would be more balanced and would settle them down

Is it time to stick a fork in the Pies?

I can’t understand why they don’t try Mihocek in the back line to cover the move of Moore forward he was a successful backman when he was recruited to thE pies

Is it time to stick a fork in the Pies?

Good point re Trelor but I have always feel that you utilise your players strengths and not hope they can adapt perhaps what I am trying to say is the current game plan does not work with the players they have

I have no problem with Grundy I think the understanding he has with his mid fielders could be better I think Trelor is a huge loss in that regard as he was reading Grundys tapping

A few points raised in this article I question if it ain’t broke don’t fix it the way Collingwood played in the 18-19 seasons got them to a grand final and a preliminary so it would be fair to say they were doing something right but I am of a firm belief that the game plan was changed egos got involved and it became a different style that the players had become confused and didn’t understand it
If you look at Richmonds style of game it has not changed or is complicated all players understand it and stick to it also the are encouraged to use their natural skills Collingwood are not
Secondly Moore whilst a very good footballer has a few issues that he would need to address if he was to play at CHF
He would need to improve his engine he doesn’t have the motor to play CHF at the moment if you watch him closely at CHB he plays of his opponent rarely involved in physical contest and doesn’t run a lot not a pressure player
Collingwood will struggle this year in midfield as the numbers are thin so defensive pressure is easily applied
Grundy is the interesting player in this if he can control his taps ( hitting to his team mates) it will go a long way to helping the team

I think the problem for Collingwood is that they have over paid the players
600k for Cox is case in point he has played at best 6 games where he has had a direct effect on the result and is not worth 600k
If they are changing the philosophy on payment structure then they should tell us
