Worst officiating this year including TMO – how the Yellow was not upgraded to Red I cannot fathom. Worse than McReight’s tackle which was at least legal (except for the head clash obviously). Ironically I don’t think it cost us the game unlike the atrocious decision in the Canes golden point loss. It just destroys the enjoyment of the game and drives away fans. The calls against the Reds at the ruck were astonishingly bad. I was at the game and it isn’t always possible to see what the ref sees. So you watch the replay … sigh. Just a lottery. There were several that went against the Blues as well. In the end Reds needed to close it out and they didn’t.

'Heartbreaking': Blues sink Reds with post-siren try after rising star scores epic hat-trick

September 29 2019 Aust vs Wales. Kerevi was penalised for using his elbow of the arm carrying the ball when he ran into the Welsh player who was attempting the tackle. Referee was Romain Poite. French. No bias just clueless. Not sure I agree with ‘Whatever’s’ interpretation however he didn’t make it up. It did cause me to look again at the McDermott incident and there is no doubt that he was hit in the neck by the fend in the attempted tackle. Doesn’t matter where it started. Accident or otherwise I think we all know that the result is what should be judged. The rest is mitigation. McDermott still a muppet for reacting.

'Brain explosion': Wallaby stars sent off as Queensland left red-faced in Moana Pasifika shocker

You are so right. We all need perspective. Mine is – now having watched the replay as well as live is that there were at least 5 incorrect decisions. 4 went against the Reds and 1 the Canes. The last in Golden Point was particularly egregious as there were 2 reasons to penalise the Canes player which were not detected by the ref. I was a ref after playing. It is bloody difficult and means I am hopefully more balanced then some AND I suspect I made plenty of errors. Despite watching Rugby for over 50 years I seldom believe any error is a result of bias by the officials. Nonetheless errors of such magnitude impact results. Coaches and players are sanguine because they get fined if they say anything. And yes the Reds should have put the game away several times. I am not whinging – just making observations. The notion that you can come on and make comments about players but not other aspects of the game that significantly impact the result is absurd. My perspective. Cheers.

Reds rue missed 'moments' as Hurricanes get up in golden point to deny Australia another Super Rugby win

So a missed forward pass, a roll over (remember that was their favourite penalty last year), a clear knock on, failure to reward Reds scrum when dominant, yelling use it then allowing the half back to be tackled and so many more… yep we missed the big moments. J Way missed a whole lot more.

Reds rue missed 'moments' as Hurricanes get up in golden point to deny Australia another Super Rugby win

I agree. Number 1 in Super Rugby for carries, 8th in metres gained and 10th in tackles won and in the top 20 in almost all other categories out of 600 are just statistics. Clearly they need to measure power, explosiveness and dynamism (arguably all synonyms of each other). That and change his birth certificate to born in NSW. 3 Tests Gleeson is injured. That should go well against Sth A. Leota needs oxygen between runs. Eddie told Harry to improve in a few areas. Eddie acknowledged that he and McDermott had done so… and whilst I am here – as Reds supporter. I think Tate has power, explosiveness and dynamism. His pass is not good enough for Test Rugby. Simple as that. AT SR level he is a game changer. At Test level he is a drag on front foot ball…

COMMENT: Eddie has made one huge gamble - and it's not the No.10 call - as he avoids ruthless Hooper decision

All selections are irrelevant. Jayco Peyper is the ref. Just getting in early. LOL Wallabies ill discipline will see 22 – 4 penalty count against them easily. Will edit after the game in case of underestimate.

WALLABIES TEAM: Jock starts, Skelton on bench, Rennie explains 'noticeable' difference in Nic vs. Tate

Good observations. I think there has been significant improvement in Creighton. Flook will be an outstanding addition to any backline going forward. The injuries are often a blessing because you see how people can step up. I am not sure about Thorn. No doubting his commitment and belief in a “no dickhead” environment. Unfortunately I am not sure he has the skills to eliminate that tendency in some that come into his care… For what it’s worth I think the Chiefs will smash the Crusaders. Brumbies can defeat the Blues but it will require some good fortune. And you would need to be ahead of the Blues by 15+ with 5 to go. They have amazing faith in their ability to score from anywhere… ( and often do).

ANALYSIS: Reds need brutal honesty in their post-mortem as recruitment exposed despite gallant fight

Was at that game.. 20 Metres away from the incident. It was a 50/50 call I thought at the time. Fair enough – a lot went RM’s way over the years. Then I read Sir RM’s book – he mentions the penalty. He says “the ref told me to get my hands off the ball”… he didn’t and thus the penalty. So you might want to adjust your memory accordingly:-).. The Red card that wasn’t and the penalty that wasn’t awarded for the hit when the mark was taken.. more fine examples of less than brilliant officiating. In my view would have made absolutely no difference to the result. Crusaders were cruising the whole game. Reds had no punch at the breakdown besides the efforts of Wilson. Uru off his best. Missing Salakaia-Loto perhaps and off course Tupou. However the Crus defence was superb and as a Reds supporter I did not see a single offside at the gain line. The sort of relentless pressure that just discombobulates the best sides. And the Reds are a long way from that at the moment.

REACTION: 'We came out shellshocked'- Reds rue slow start as Crusaders cruise to win

I think Tate is just wonderful, tough, smart, outsized courage, competitive always etc however his pass from the base is just not quick enough. Compare it with Kalani Thomas which is lightning fast. In my view that is the most important requirement of the position. His other qualities will always put him in the frame for selection and in some games that will give him and his team the edge. Ultimately however if his options around the ruck are stifled (think AB’s, Ireland and Boks) then the ability to give the first five an extra half second becomes critical for the majority of the game. The failure to penalise the MP player who jumped onto McReight well after he had scored was the worst of several officials lapses. The number of penalties for infringements that had no bearing whatsoever on the play also present an issue that needs to be addressed. It’s a difficult area and I am not sure there is an easy answer but it just makes the game very difficult to watch at times and I am sure frustrates all… I was at the game and watched a replay today. It confirmed my view that the assistant referees on the sideline should be provided with guide dogs.

REACTION: JOC limps off, Tate immense as Reds need to dig deep to end losing slump against Moana Pasifika

Perhaps you should read the comment with both eyes open. I didn’t say that Refs should be perfect. As I was one myself I know how difficult it is. I think the standard all year especially with Yellow and Red cards has been hopelessly inconsistent. As for the incident in question. The interpretation of the rule that is applied correctly is “Any act that could seriously hurt an opposing player”. Taking the opposing players feet out in the air and failing to provide any support from the ensuing tumble is a red card every day of the week. As McDermott correctly questioned “it doesn’t matter that I landed on my feet”. You should also undergo some logic reasoning. To assist you with data analysis there is co-incidence, correlation and causation. The cause of their loss was their own ineptitude. Clearly stated by me. There is most likely a correlation between playing any team without your full complement of your best players and the result. Tough luck – every team has injuries. Clearly stated by others in the thread. As for a co-incidence that I commented on the officialdom. That is entirely due to the uninformed rubbish that so many spruik on this channel every week but this week more so. I didn’t comment last week or the week before. That explodes your co-incidence theory at least as it applies to me. Amazing how much you can write in one deep breath. Thanks for the advice.

REACTION: 'We just haven't fronted' - The four minutes that exposed massive gulf between Reds and Blues

Yep agree, the try where the Blues player was tackled and then advanced, the ruck where the Blues player came in from the side, the dangerous tackle of McDermott which in any other game this year would have been a red card, the penalty against the Reds when the Blues player lifted the Reds player over the horizontal. None of them were important. It had no bearing on the game whatsoever. You can still make observations about shite referees without saying it would have changed the result. The wayward line out throws and basic errors like dropped ball and falling off critical tackles cost them the game. No way Reds deserved to win. However the poor officialdom made it a lot worse.
