Baaaahahahahahahahahaha. Again, in a battle of wits you come unarmed. Didn’t think to follow up on your Naden example before posting? Lucky you can just dismiss it with all the credibility your opinons carry. 😂 😂

I understand that having empathy for someone else can seem virtuous to those with no moral compass.

I see you’re still drunk and spouting your usual BS. Now I know reading isn’t your strong point but there was some follow up from that Naden incident. Those guys met up with him and apologised and agreed to do a counciling course in order to come back to NRL games.

“NUTTIN” is the level of intelligence you bring to these conversations.

It’s all in how it’s perceived. Some may not like the stereo-type and you don’t get to choose what may ruffle the feathers of others and how they should feel about the comparison. Don’t get me wrong, between mates of various ethnicities that banter has context and can be funny for all. Yell that same comment to a player amongst strangers at a public venue and you lose control.

This is just disappointing. 1) if these guys were abusing these players, let the full weight of punishment come down on them. 2) If true, what were the other punters doing around them? If the the abuse went to the level as has been reported, how does the bloke next to them say nothing? It shouldn’t take the player to stop play and object for these guys to know their behaviour is unacceptable. There are number you can text to get security’s attention, you don’t have to get involved but to do nothing…

3) As a punter who likes to get vocal at games I believe crowd interaction provides atmosphere and is an important part of live sports. Aside from the occasional “are you blind ref”, it’s never abusive and I don’t think the punters should pay their money and sit quietly. I would like to think this is a misunderstanding from someone/s otherwise attempting some playful fun with Siraj. However, you cannot dismiss his concerns based on the 5 different angles reported. If the punters believe they done nothing wrong, get them into a ZOOM with Siraj and clear the air.

4 )If your best comment relies on race or stereo-type than best you enjoy the cricket from home.

I’m with you mate. It’ll never happen again until it happens again…

Adam O'Brien to form leadership group

I’m not diminishing nor telling someone else how to feel. Also wasn’t aware of the staffer’s partner either.

That NQ story would be funny if not messed up on many levels. ‘Yes mate, we know it’s sh.ite, your misses played up with one of the boys. Here take these prescription pills and calm down’ Police and NRL ‘yeah, that’s fine…’.

Adam O'Brien to form leadership group

I’m starting to think there’s a lot more than ‘flirty’ text messaging going on here. One to derail a marriage, that’s personal. To lose the captaincy and come out and make these public, teary statements would indicate something more went on.

Adam O'Brien to form leadership group

Hi John. Ponga has been around a while now, this will be his 5th season and he’s a walk-up start into the Qld team. Aside from Pearce, all the other positions are rotating players so he needs to take a leadership role. He is their marquee man on the big bucks after all.
Don’t know about youngest captain. I had a feeling Carrigan was close from last season but he was current youngest at 22yo. Hghly likely one younger than that.

Who should succeed Mitchell Pearce as Knights captain?

All 3 are leaders, none are Captains but there is a clear lack of options behind them. The only player I can see who’s guaranteed his position there (behind these 3) is Ponga. Any possibility there? I’d say coach will leave that decision until close to season starting and see if someone stands up in the preseason.

Who should succeed Mitchell Pearce as Knights captain?

If Cam Smith stays – every chance. If he leaves it’ll be highly unlikely. Without Smith they will still be right up the top come finals time but the sheer magnitude of a repeat without Smith is hard for me to see.

Nah, and I don’t think it’s an apt comparison either. Yes T20 is a bastardised version of cricket but designed for entertainment over strategy and it still goess for 3hrs. That said, there is still a contest between bat and ball. I don’t see the 9s as something that could draw new spectators to league. Sure it can be entertaining but it’s 100% attack focused and too short to grasp the concepts of the game. If you showed a game of 9s, rugby 7s or pro touch to someone who has no clue about the codes they wouls struggle to tell the difference.

When a full game of league only goes for 90mins there’s no need for an ‘entree’ version to appease those with a short attention span.

Nines as T20: Is it wise to bastardise rugby league?

I think some rationalisation of some Sydney clubs are inevitable but it won’t be for a long while yet. Not from a player depth point of view but from a money perspective. There are easily 60 NRL-quality talent running the state comps. Granted it would take a few years to get the redistribution of talent spread enough to have 2 more competitive NRL clubs and depth for them as well.

Of course there are Sydney clubs fans who will disagree about the rationalisation of some Sydney clubs. I’d find an angle to argue if it was my club on the line. At the moment, the NRL are guaranteed funding until 2027 and that just covers their current cost base. Arguably Fox got a pretty good deal due to COVID, hence, the long-term contract so nothing is changing in the near future. Short of another pandemic between now and 2027, the NRL can expect a larger deal (think of the viewing options by 2027) so they may have a few more $$ to play with.

That said, I don’t think there is the money or player depth for 20 teams, therefore, the new entrant would have to prove they can provide more eyeballs, subscriptions, memberships than a current Sydney club/s. Where the NRL differs from the NRL is the attendances. Bums on seats are gold for the club’s coffers. Getting 10k-12k is barely break even so the decision becomes a commercial one at the NRLHQ level, which comes back to making the broadcasters happy.

The 17th NRL team? There’s only one answer

There you go, I’m not surprised. I would have thought there may be some geographical reference in there.

Is Northern too close to Cowboys/Pride already?

The 17th NRL team? There’s only one answer

Hi John, Happy new year to you too. Good question. If you’re talking immediate impact, no doubt having a known brand, like Dolphins, may attract a few Broncos members back to their alligence in the north. Same but to a lesser extent with the Ipswich Jets/Western corridor and Easts Tigers bid. The Bombers have no history so their success will be based on their on-field success. If they start to win they will slowly attract a crowd and that’s what will hurt the Broncos. Bums on seats are gold for club revenue and the Broncos don’t want to have to share the casual attendee. That applies to any/all new entrants. The more successful the team is, the more sponsors will be attracted to them and away from the Broncos.

Good comment BB.
IMO there’s ample talent for 1, even 2 more competitive NRL teams. Hording that talent can be an issue when you see the production line behind some clubs, mine included. Although, too much of a good thing can hurt the clubs as well. Look at the exceptional amount of talent the Panthers have burned through in the last 6-8years to find the nucleus of a good team (alternatively, just wait until they all come through from u12 at one time…).

I’ve said below I reckon they’ll be a 2nd new team announced. Brisbane 2.0 is a given, I think they should be taking a chance with Perth or PNG.

The 17th NRL team? There’s only one answer

Interesting article LIM. While some of your points are debatle I agree the Dolphins are the next best choice. If successful though, IMO, they need to play out of Dolphin Oval (and Sunshine Coast Stadium) but the NRL/V’landys have said they want to playing more games out of Suncorp. If playing at Suncorp is a high priority, it brings the Bombers well back into the game. Make no mistake, they’ve got good financial support to last until the fans arrive.

Further, expansion must be aimed at the future so I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped the “Redcliffe” part as they don’t want to be tied to a particular suburb while looking for supporters.

The interesting part of this exercise is working out who will be the 2nd entrant – the 18th team? Of course they will, this isn’t an inclusion for the fans, it has to make money. It makes no sense to add another single team. What’s the payback? The NRL get paid for games televised (approx $1m p/game). One team – no extra games but $millions invested. Two teams – one more game each week paid for and televised.

mate, you are just being a wayne-kerr and that’s not code specific. Just another anon, weak-as-…. ‘guest’ throwing stones just for bites. Probably fair to say you’ve created a few logins previously? I can see this is fun for you and for that I am truly sorry. I hope life gets better in 2021.

No but if you are a Poli guy and eat that meal in Aust, that’s enough to qualify for the Wallabies squad.

I don’t know much about Saulo. His stats are interesting reading and he’s got a couple of decent FR mentors there. Still only 100kg at 22yo though so he’ll need a few more Kgs to play in that position.

Agree about the other 3, all of them are a level above their State comp and Schuster/Spry will walk into respective roles. However, Hynes was/is stuggling to find a spot. He’s a fair utility but he would walk into most other clubs and he should be looking that way.
