I don’t really agree judgements made on a small number of races are somehow invalid. Judging someone on ten races, or five races or even 1 race doesn’t really matter, so long as it’s clear that it’s based on the limited data set.
By the numbers: Is the Verstappen experiment a failure?
Yeah, I pointed that out in the article
By the numbers: Is the Verstappen experiment a failure?
When the numbers come in I certainly will make a revised judgement
By the numbers: Is the Verstappen experiment a failure?
As i’ve pointed out in other “comedy posts”, Verstappen is still developing and could develop into an even more talented driver or one that makes even more mistakes and poorly judged moves. I’m hoping he grows in positive directions and becomes a superstar, of-course.
By the numbers: Is the Verstappen experiment a failure?
Numbers clearly do mean SOMETHING, but it’s interesting that Kvyat was closer than people think.
By the numbers: Is the Verstappen experiment a failure?
Now more than even it’s pointless to plan too far ahead in F1. It’s all well and good for teams to have a plan for 2017/18/19/20(!) but all that counts is how they feel in the weeks leading up to pen hitting paper.
I find it hard to get excited about Leclerc going to Ferrari before he’s even driven a single race, just ask Kvyat how quickly fortunes can change.
Has the ship sailed on Perez and Grosjean?
We are bending over backwards to make F1 safer, I fail to believe that the FIA wouldn’t take a driver aside and set them straight if they felt there was a conflict between safety and entertainment.
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
The situation is pretty clear, if everybody thinks he is crossing the line and the regulations are sufficient they will be changed… or at least the guidelines for the administration of the rules.
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
You don’t think Verstappen is a whinger? You don’t think he whinged when he was asked to let his teammate through, even though Sainz had done the same for him multiple times? You don’t think he whinged when he was pushed off the track by Rosberg in Germany, and then did the same to Raikkonen in Belgium? You don’t think he whinged when he said Vettel and Raikkonen should be “ashamed of themselves” for their driving, despite coming under intense criticism from drivers, team bosses and experts himself?
The Roar is a place for passionate discussion, the comments especially! I can call Verstappen a whinger just as you can call me unprofessional (which is uncalled for imho).
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
That’s fair, because as everybody knows the FIA is the gold standard of consistency and forthrightness!
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
Verstappen is a whinger too, though… and i think he’s losing the “competitive but fair” label in favour of “competitive but not technically against the regs”
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
I believe Vettel is one, Button too maybe? I’m sure his response will be “if it was against the rules then penalise me”
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
On reflection, I really meant to hit the Verstappen = Schumacher point harder in this article 🙂
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
I don’t know about being scared, when someone is quicker and races fairly you don’t frequently hear Raikkonen or any other driver whinging about their antics. The drivers certainly aren’t the only ones asking questions, but certainly in the heat of the moment their opinions seem to be amplified
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
Yeah, we’re all talking about Verstappen as a developing driver as scary as his opponents may find that, so I think it’s important that he continue to improve his aggression and in curbing his unfavourable defending
Hero or villain? 'Dangerous' Max Verstappen condemned for Spa antics
I’m not sure it’s fair to accuse the FIA of being anti-Verstappen before he came into the sport, they were just anti-the negative press they received and were looking to prevent the impression that F1 cars are so easy to drive that even a “young adult” could do it.
Is Max Verstappen the best thing to happen to Formula One?
This is a problematic argument. Like if one driver dominates another one by beating him in qualifying, leading into the first corner and making a mistake at one corner and giving up the lead to the other driver who wins – which one is more talented?
There are plenty of examples and times where Rosberg has been “faster”, I’d say Hamilton has been able to ride the bumps of stressful championship campaigns having gone through a few at the start of his career and thus has come out on top of Nico.
Nico Rosberg is still a threat to Lewis Hamilton
Well why do you think they didn’t “give him the BOOT”?
Nico Rosberg is still a threat to Lewis Hamilton
“Better on merit in the wet”, yeah that’s pretty spot on. I’ll give you that.
Why Nico Rosberg won't win the championship
Agreed, the engine penalty isn’t worth very much – other than the fact that Hamilton can continue to use it to gain sympathy from those that are inclined to do so.
Why Nico Rosberg won't win the championship
Let me play devil’s advocate – it seems to be a speciality of mine.
I don’t disagree with your conclusion, however a few other points could be made here. Hamilton didn’t really dominate Rosberg in Monaco, Rosberg out-qualified him and was just crap in the race due mostly to temperatures. It’s a generous compliment to Hamilton to say he dominated considering that he shouldn’t have even won that race.
Rosberg also bit back by claiming pole in Germany and although his race was again pretty average, it signals that he’s not being completely dominated by his teammate and is capable of beating him on pure pace on occasion.
Also, it’s curious that Rosberg is constantly under the scrutiny of the stewards and yet Hamilton could flagrantly break the regulations (i.e. being unsafely released from the pits during practice) and yet escapes a reprimand. Rosberg, on the other hand, was investigated after one qualifying session for going excessively slow and was released because it turned out he wasn’t even on the kind of lap they thought he was. The penalty for his defensive effort against Verstappen this weekend has also proved controversial with many (even members of the British press!) agreeing that it was harsh and most likely uncalled for.
But I don’t want to put on the tin-foil hat completely 😉
Certainly the points turn-around demonstrates the impressive recovery from Hamilton, and although I expect from this position he’ll win the title I wouldn’t completely write off Rosberg just yet.
Why Nico Rosberg won't win the championship
Yeah, I really took away from the whole pitlane regulation that they want to penalise people for receiving these kinds of messages, perhaps they hoped teams would elect to pit themselves and remove the doubt about what should be banned or not?
Throw the Formula One radio ban into the bin before it's too late
Well it genuinely mixed things up, drivers could start light on fuel and hope to scamper away knowing they had to pit earlier, etc. Sadly I fear it’s just too dangerous and for that reason alone I doubt we’ll see it reintroduced.
Throw the Formula One radio ban into the bin before it's too late
Yeah, poor form from Hamilton imho. Backed up (literally) by his antics during the race, clearly the Rules of Engagement weren’t comprehensive enough.
AND it’s the second week in a row that Rosberg has been called before the stewards after qualifying when he hasn’t done anything wrong.
Rosberg was right not to get a qualifying penalty, but that's the problem
Yeah, and wierdly Kvyat has come out this week and said the pressure this year has been over the top – you have to wonder if he would have help up in a tense championship battle if that’s the case.
