Wallabies and Brumbies tragic. Mediocre former player. Monocular armchair referee. Hubristic RA critic.

Good thought provoking article Harry. But, in these times of fiscal difficulty, can RA actually afford all their international airfares now we’re with Cadbury and no longer with Qantas?

Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table

Cec, you’ve nailed it. People seem to forget that Mo’unga’s early All Black career involved a few inconsistent games No. 10s need to learn their craft. They need time and experience and consistent backing rather than tenuous rollercoaster selections. Nice to see Noah stepping up this game. Hopefully he can maintain this form going forward.

'Statement game': Brumbies smash Moana Pasifika as Lolesio, Wright and Toole light up Canberra

“How does a rugby territory thats one of the smallest in this country have 2 votes and yet the biggest has 2 votes. Its absurd”.
Seriously, did you actually read the article?
It’s because the Brumbies and ACTRU vote as a bloc.
It’s because NSW’s incompetence cost them a vote when they surrendered the keys to RA.
It’s because WA is a house divided, the Force and WARU each a single vote.
It’s because Victoria only gets 1 vote via the VRU because the Rebels are bust and can’t vote anymore.
Blaming the ACT doesn’t stack up against the harsh reality that is each of NSW, the Force and the Rebels have let themselves down on the field, at the bank and in the boardroom.

Strong custodians or factional hacks pushing state agendas? The numbers that will decide future of Australian rugby

Nah, it’s lineout coach. Eddie needs help get things straight.

Eddie puts his foot in it again by claiming 'no regrets' after leaving Wallabies in 'a better place'

Nice job Ben. Made me think of Al Baxter. Totally demolished by Andrew Sheridan at Twickenham in 2005 before returning him the favour in 2008. As Spiro reported this 2008 game on The Roar, “Al Baxter monsters Andrew Sheridan, reducing him to a limping wreck wandering off Twickenham with all the
dejection of a whipped schoolyard bully.”

Yep, the only brutal reality check from Phil’s deluded op-ed is that he packed down in one scrum too many.

'Our talent is spread too thin': Ex-Wallabies captain urges Rugby Australia to cut Super teams

Guess, you’re wrong and Terrence is correct. Last year against Carter and the Rebels Noah had put on 20 points within the first 20 minutes, including scoring a wonderful try off an aimless Carter kick, leading to the infamous “Who’s Carter Gordon” shout out. This year, much the same, Noah helping the Brumbies to rack up the points in the first 20 minutes via a great run and pass along with solid kicking, while Carter hits the posts and creates nothing. If Terrence is one eyed, you must be totally blind.

'Own worst enemy': Rebels' month from hell continues as Brumbies smash Aussie rivals, Lolesio's timely reminder

Christy, Carter Gordon was emphatically NOT Australia’s best fly-half by a country mile during last year’s Super Rugby season. He got creamed by Noah in their head to head last year. Just watch the replay on Stan. He’s like Ben Donaldson, another of Eddie’s favourites, not up to it in the heat of the moment.

Decision time: Clubs queuing up to pounce on Rebels' best as Rugby Australia given warning over in demand Wallabies

Hmm, relying on the Vic government to adhere to it’s promised sports funding seems tenuous in light of it reneging on the Commonwealth Games at the last minute. A better idea would be to ask Gina if she’d like to put her leftover netball money into the Rebels and try to go one-up on Twiggy’s Force. Make it a special derby fixture – The Battle of the Billionaires.

Rebels told they will play Super Rugby in 2024 but future on shaky ground as voluntary administration looms

Perhaps Tony hopes Joe’s inflamed loins will be a better motivational tool than Eddie’s cattle prod!

COMMENT: In trading Greatest Showman for 'boring' and 'pragmatic' Sleepy Joe, RA gambling with game's future

“Jones wasn’t wrong to back Carter Gordon for the No.10 jersey in 2023”. Yeah he was.
“If he does, and learns how to win, the Wallabies No.10 jersey will be his”. Hmmmm, wouldn’t it be better for him to learn how to kick straight and catch properly?

RA to begin hunt for Wallabies coach imminently after securing key man, Schmidt keen as Nucifora talks continue

Brumbies selfish? They were fighting for their continued existence under a NSW dominated RA that were looking for any excuse to break them up and ship their remains off to Melbourne and Perth. Thankfully Qld and a majority of other stakeholders voted this down – a rare win for Australian rugby.

'Stinking nepotism', 'bygone era' or Japan's saviour? Why Eddie's mate has risked his rep on Wallaby turncoat

Wow Phil, bagging the Brumbies seems a long stretch. Maybe our other SR teams should stop settling for fourth, fifth, six and whatever. At least the Brumbies do enough right to present a challenge to Kiwi SR dominance. And, it’s fanciful to ask for a politics free federal franchise system – simply put, each franchise has different interests, wants and needs. It’s more rational to foster a constructive political environment based on mutual trust and respect, bound by shared values and common goals. Hamish and RA haven’t facilitated the latter.

'Stinking nepotism', 'bygone era' or Japan's saviour? Why Eddie's mate has risked his rep on Wallaby turncoat

I’m a Noah fan and think he’s been poorly treated by selectors. He’s helped us win against France by the boot, against Wales by hand and against the ABs. He’s consistently helped the Brumbies to high finishes in Super rugby, and he shaded CG and BD in their most recent head to head matches. But he was yo-yo’d in and out of the WBs by DR and overlooked by EJ. His selection hopes weren’t helped when concussion, not loss of form, led to him sitting out for JD at season’s end. Despite what some critics say, he’s not that bad defensively – as good as most of his peers. I’m not sure why he’s been treated this way. Maybe he’s not as commanding as a few of the world’s top #10s. A lack of job security can do that to a work in progress. I also wonder how much White’s slow pass from the scrum base and box kicking limited Noah’s attacking options at Super and international levels. With faster service I think he’d show more. Hopefully, we’ll see him much improved for the Brumbies after France, a more decisive #10 via quicker ball from Lonergan.

'Pissed off': Why Eddie snubbed Noah and the five-month stint in France that's changed his outlook

Wasn’t the article about Oz rugby not appreciating or recognising talent, ie, the ones that got away. Clearly his current level of accomplishment was not unexpected by the Irish. They saw what we didn’t. As for NRL players, Tom Wright at club level, Vunivalu at test level.

Talent is not linear: Emmanuel Meafou's rise from Brisbane club rugby to Top 14 superstar

No not my dreams, the ones of those who think he was a good buy for Oz rugby. I think his signing was a slap in the face for all Oz union players.

'Hold firm': RA urged not to blow Suaalii deal as Herbert shifts focus from NRL, Eddie rejects 'horse guy's PR'

Suaalli is not the Messiah, he’s just a good young footy player with a very good agent. Won’t change the game or our fortunes, but will enjoy a healthy bank balance. Good luck to him as he carries the weight of all those dreams and expectations upon him.

'Hold firm': RA urged not to blow Suaalii deal as Herbert shifts focus from NRL, Eddie rejects 'horse guy's PR'

You could have written this about Mack Hansen, overlooked by the Brumbies and RA because he didn’t fit the mould Oz rugby wanted in wingers – NRL converts or large physical units with power and strength to could run over defenders. Never mind his on field vision, work rate, evasive running and spatial awareness.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

Great article Keith, but sadly and eerily reminiscent of our family experience in Canberra. Here’s a comment I made months ago on the Roar in response to another article and post:

“KCOL, I read that article and was struck by the comment “They don’t know how good they’ve got it,…”. So true. I’ve just spent the day in Boorowa at a Grade 6 country touch footy competition. Coached a mixed team of girls and boys, who variously also play netball, soccer, AFL and basketball. They managed 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw, improving and growing each game. The kids appeared to have a ball (and one of the right shape). There were hundreds, maybe a thousand plus kids, along with fantastic teachers and many committed parents. Relaxing now, while I know it’s not rugby per se, I’m trying to imagine how much it future worth and value there might have had been in an RA and/or Brumbies and/or Waratahs presence on the ground – surely they could’ve managed to put together a marquee and sausage sizzle between the three of them!”

RA’s version of community reminds me of cannibalistic Wombats – it seems they eat the grassroots and leave.

Rugby Australia needs to target the NRL and AFL's best talent - but not on the field

Yep, just compare us versus Wales under Rennie and then under Jones. We went backwards real quick. No-one other than Eddie was responsible for that – not the structures, not the systems, not 20 years of Super rugby – just 9 months of Eddie.

Billy Boy, irrelevant and misguided. You might ask that question better of the Rebels or the Force…
FYI, about 2/3 of the Brumbies U19 squad is local, including Queanbeyan, just next door. Here’s the list if you’d like to check:
https://brumbies.rugby/news/act-brumbies-confirm-squads-for-the-super-rugby-mens-u16s-u19s-competition-202398
For the U16 squad, it’s almost entirely ACT based kids. The few that aren’t, are from adjacent regions.
We’ve made a habit of collecting players overlooked by their home unions – that’s how we’ve become Australia’s most successful franchise. Not cherry picking as much as it is astute talent spotting.
Perhaps NSW need to look internally rather than blame outside forces. For example, and perhaps more importantly, at a recent regional schools Grade 6 touch footy competition in Boorowa, there was zero NSW Waratahs or RA presence. Seems they couldn’t be bothered to manage a marquee or sausage sizzle.

Not to mention his “possession rugby is dead” quip before the first SA game in the Championship. That’s when I started to think Eddie had lost the plot, enamoured with his own “genius”.

Hamish out, my dream team in – Twiggy Forrest to manage finances and funding competently, David Nucifora and Steve Anderson to centralise effectively. McKellar as head coach, Friend or Larkham as his assistant, Laurie Fisher for the forwards, Larkham or Simon Cron to coach the backs. And a focussed RA engagement plan for schools, families and communities.
