You’re spot-on. Booing for a day or two after that Bairstow tantrum is probably fair enough, but to continue it all of every subsequent day is just childish petulance. Direct your noise to the myopic umpire, nobody should walk if given not out. I agree, sooner we can get out of that scungy petri dish the better.

UK View: Same old Broady, always bleating - 'Unjust' result if rain saves Australia's bid to retain Ashes

That language butchery can be pretty brutal to the ears.

You missed one.
A fairly recent, but relentlessly-hammered addition.

Shape….

Did we mention the slope at Lord’s? The official Ashes commentary drinking game

You omitted Maguire from your list of coaches sacked in 2022.
I must day he looks fresh and a lot less stressed nowadays, nice to see.

Coaches are people with feelings, let's go a bit easier on them

Excellent ! Now you’re talking. As England completed a test in NZ recently, the following morning a full-strength England squad took on Bangla Desh in an ODl.
Have to get more talent involved at national level, rather than having largely the same players rather selfishly hogging all 3 formats. After the BBL final and Marsh Cup finals, l’m keen to see how players like Spencer Johnson and co can perform at the next level. And surely an lnternational T20 side should have all specialists and no test players ? Like Rugby 7s and League 9s, each to their specialist discipline.

Ashes spots up for grabs as Australia A squad rewards young stars knocking on door: 'Exciting futures ahead of them'

Don’t forget “superstar”….

Why it’s so hard to master the art of being a cricket commentator: ‘Always prepare for the worst-case scenario’

Yet Smith and Warner are. Whatever happened to redemption ? An impulsive act under senior instruction has already cost him 5 years of his career, from which he is only now recovering to anything like previous form. Wind your head in, and give the bloke a chance.

Humiliated: Australia skittled in a session as Indian spinners set up innings victory

Agree, and the incessant bleating about his off-field philosophies is now just unbearable. I like watching him bowl, and his captaincy, despite a couple of hiccups during the summer, is always interesting.
Looking forward ! 👍

CA must pick on form over reputation for India tour

Again, why is it the players seemingly making the call ? Declares himself not quite ready when plenty of knowledgeable punters have indicated a side strain can’t be risked ? Surely that’s a call for selectors, not players ?

'Mark of the man': Selfless act that gives Boland chance to relive historic debut as Aussies name XI for MCG

Yeah ! But three years after Joe Public requested an edited BBL schedule. Being blindly ignored, and having the bloated schedule even enlarged by greedy admin, is a significant part of why folks’ disdain of CA continues to gather momentum.
Remember, it began as a smaller comp with plenty of lnternational stars and a keen following. Why change ?
Oh yeah, that’s right……$$$

Cricket News: Proteas have their own ‘wild thing’, Smith gets early test, BBL to be cut back, Aussies defend pace ploy

Spot-on. You can’t have people bemoaning the supposedly-perilous state of long-form cricket if senior participants refuse to spread the word. NZ have played Holland, Scotland and lreland this year. Even though it is in short-form, at least it gives the spectators in those smaller outposts the opportunity to see top class players at work, and hopefully generate interest and aspirations in the sport.
And traditionally the Ashes was once every four years in the UK, and the following year in Australia, so the long, slow build-up really lead to anticipation and excitement surrounding selection, and the tension of the contest. Now the interest seems diluted, as they play home and away quite regularly, with little requirement for Shield cricketers to work towards a possible Ashes selection as the touring test squad are regularly away and require little replenishment.

Chappell least popular of Nine’s fab four but more commentators should adopt his forthright approach

Good assessment. I always paid attention when he spoke, and read what he wrote, because he always formed an opinion based upon what was good for cricket. Not just for Australia, but the overall game.
Picked a carefully-considered viewpoint, and stuck with it. When dramas blew up, he wouldn’t fire straight into prose, but collect all the facts and then deliver what always turned out to be an accurate assessment.
I also admired his commentary, in that he lived every match thinking like an aggressive captain with the same desired aim as Warnie : considering with every delivery, how am l going to get this bloke out ?
Forthright and staunch, he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, as plenty of asinine comments have indicated, but cricket needs voices who consider the game from a big-picture standpoint, and with his retirement they will now number one less.
Good knock, sir.

Chappell least popular of Nine’s fab four but more commentators should adopt his forthright approach

All true Danielle, but l think you are possibly being a little unkind to Warren Smith, who l think is the best current commentator because he does know the rules. And actually, Ray Warren did as well. I think a genuine pro commentator should make it an absolute requisite for his skill set : clearly not a widely-shared point of view…

Position vacant: NRL commentator who knows rules - a ref explaining calls will make huge difference

As for Held being called and then defenders continuing to pin the tackled player down while staring down the ref….grrrr !

MICHAEL HAGAN: Held means held - refs need to crack down on players slowing ruck

Whoa ! Hang on mate, let’s not do anything too hasty. That game is far worse for bizarre rule application….

Tigers lodge official complaint after bunker shocker but NRL claims Cowboys challenge was legit

DP : agree re Gold Coast. They were melding well and developing as a squad when the panic signing of Hayne rent the joint asunder, his ultimatum leading to Neil Henry’s sacking returning virtually nothing to the club and setting them back 5 years. Who made that call ?

NRL NEWS: Browny to stay for now, Maguire facing axe in Tigers' mid-year review, Ben leading Dally M hunt, French's tribute to Mum

Actually, that’s of some interest. Aussies are prone to write people off at face value, but the fact remains when he’s not metaphorically smashing a pizza etc in commentary, he has an acute cricket brain and has constantly reiterated what all bowlers and captains should think with every ball : how am l going to get him out ?
I wonder at times whether the Warnie we see isn’t an ego-inflated caricature of himself, like Sam Newman. I suspect beneath the facade remains a clever cricket mind, and if he wound his head in and nominated as England coach, we’d find out. Do it, son !

'I'd do a pretty good job': Warnie's shock pick for England's next coach - himself!
