“Australia is double SA, NZ & Argentina combined.” I think you need to check your sources.

Rugby union in Australia: Disconnected and posh

The ARU aren’t that sensitive, they are just doling out games to the highest bidders…

Bledisloe Cup set to make the move west to new Perth Stadium

This is awesome. All is forgiven Barnett.

The publicity that this game brings will be very good for union in the city.

Bledisloe Cup set to make the move west to new Perth Stadium

Fair comparison about the cricket but you have to remember two of the best test series ever occurred during that period of dominance – Tour of India 2001 and Ashes 2005. These series massively grew the game in the host countries and reignited the rivalries overnight because Australia was so good – it meant so much to beat them. I think the same will happen in rugby. An epic Bledisloe or Lions series or an historic first win for the Pumas or the like. It’s just going take a massive effort from someone to match them.

Prior to this year I expected NZ to drop off a little and other teams to really challenge them. This hasn’t happened but in a way it’s better knowing that whoever topples them truly will be a great side to do it.

Can All Black dominance make rugby boring?

“It would help if we didn’t start every rugby championship against NZ. Why don’t they mix it up a bit”

This is at the behest of the ARU who want a dedicated “bledisloe week” every year in Sydney in lieu of a grand final week that other sports have. the only way to schedule this is to have it at the start of the comp apparently…

Rugby must balance two paths to growth in Australia

As a Force fan I think this is the best answer so long as the tv money is split evenly between the teams and there is automatic promotion/relegation. There would still be big teams in the second division, e.g. the Blues, Waratahs and Reds would all be in the second div fighting for promotion. It would be much easier for expansion team to join the second division and work their way up.

The first division would be the most exciting rugby comp imaginable – every team would have an outside chance of winning and also the threat of relegation would make every game meaningful.

Overall it is a simpler, fairer and more credible system.

Based on last year’s rankings:
Div 1
Hurricanes
Lions
Brumbies
Stormers
Chiefs
Crusaders
Highlanders
Sharks
Bulls

Div 2
Waratahs
Blues
Rebels
Jaguares
Cheetahs
Reds
Force
Kings
Sunwolves

Super Rugby needs more teams - five more, in fact

RWC 2019 draw is set for May 2017 so they should be worrying about the results a bit…

The Boks can have a bright future, but not without change

Maybe because he is no longer negotiating with rugby league clubs in Sydney – doesn’t have to do the careful PR job in Australia anymore.

Seven talking points from Bledisloe Cup Game 2

The flaw in this article is that Spiro has made the assumption that it has nothing to do with Australian rugby union and that the New Zealand Rugby Union shares this belief. This assumption is based on a couple of comments made by NZ staff at press conferences. Accusing someone in the press and suspecting someone behind closed doors are two completely different things. Clearly NZ do think other teams are capable of something like this or they wouldn’t have hired the sweeper in the first place. Having discovered a bug they aren’t going to do Australia any favours after that are they.

Has New Zealand been playing silly buggers with the ARU?
