All can’t be Smith with skills..but they can learn that strategy to face spinners on rank Turner’s..the same English batsmen cope well in swinging conditions..the strategy is still the same..play the line that protests your stumps and pad
Think India's two-day Test pitch was unplayable? That’s a myth
Could have played the extra batsman in place of a seamer
Think India's two-day Test pitch was unplayable? That’s a myth
What you describe is the art of playing spin or swing..You play one line and gamble on the other to miss the bat..That is why I gave two examples. One of Steven Smith vs spin and the other of Martin Crowe vs Swing..An English batsman accustomed to playing swing should adopt the same technique..Get closer to the pitch and play one line
Think India's two-day Test pitch was unplayable? That’s a myth
I would love to see a repeat of SCG or Gabba 2021..There are some base assumptions there.. India’s skills matched that of Australia on Gabba..I don’t think England’s match India on a turning track..Chennai for the second test could have been great if a better batting unit took on India..
Think India's two-day Test pitch was unplayable? That’s a myth
Started on Dec 17 a Thursday

Foakes follows Dhoni’s school of keeping..catching the ball early, without a follow of the hands backward, saving time
India vs England: Highlights from the first two Test matches
Both Foakes and Pant kept brilliantly in the second test..
India vs England: Highlights from the first two Test matches
Yeah, I wanted to keep the list short..Root’s was a great innings, though on flat track..I wanted to include the wicket keepers in the second test..
India vs England: Highlights from the first two Test matches
Paul, i will request you to check out Donald’s bowling during that 2000 series win against India..He was unplayable at times and helped others pick up wickets on rank turners..At times, you do help others pick up wickets. As it is few teams have won test matches in India. Among those wins, if you see the impact of the real fast bowler, you will see the impact..
Three things to look for in the India vs England series
Donald, Steyn have done brilliantly..Donald was key in the 2001 series win, though not the highest wicker taker..Steyn demolished India in two series in 2008 and 2010..Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram did well with speed and swing..If you go much earlier, Marshall and co have excelled in India.. Anderson is the only fast medium pace swing bowler that did well against India.. McGrath & co in 2004 were not express but did brilliantly with all round suffocation
Three things to look for in the India vs England series
England are visiting India in Feb.. Already, a few of the test regulars are going to miss that series due to the injuries picked up in this Aus series..
India's act of defiance saves the third Test - and the series
Yeah, good choices..If Fawad and Rizwan had succeeded, may be..Still no comparison to India’s MCG win..A team to come back from 36 allout and put up a dominating performance over 4 days away from home, this has to be the defining act..
India at the MCG: 2020's last act of defiance on the cricketing field
Reports are saying so..mostly likely he will come in ahead of Saini
India at the MCG: 2020's last act of defiance on the cricketing field
Yes, they should..In fact, some of the replacements like Rohit, KL and Natarajan will make the team stronger for the next two tests.. Australia have to hope for Warner and Smith to fire.. Also, Gabba pitch to help them
India at the MCG: 2020's last act of defiance on the cricketing field
Thank you Paul..Yeah, I should have added the Women’s part as well..
Merry Christmas to you!!
Hope and defiance: Cricket in 2020
No Saha..if you see my XI, I have Ashwin in the team..Jaddu plays one position above Ashwin
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
Actually, Jadeja is averaging in high 40s in the last four years with the bat..He is much improved as a batter..
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
On form and pluck, Jadeja and Pant will improve the batting..Left handed will help distract the deadly Aussie duo bowlers a wee bit
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
Couple of them are forced, Kohli and Shami..Shaw should not have been there in the first place..the other two are a toss up
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
I agree..most matches pivot on a few critical events like you have mentioned..i was not in favour of having Shaw in the first test itself..He may have a 50 from the NZ series, he looked not in good shape in the warm ups..Saha is a tough call..Pant has to play..he is a better test player with wider gaps in the field than in LOI cricket where he tends to get caught or gets stuck unable to pierce the gaps..
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
MCG, ever since the drop in pitches came in, has been slower and lower in comparison to other decks..Scoring rate has also been slow as stroke making was not easy..I hope CA continues to test the Indian team with difficult pitches.. Whatever be the pitch, the Aussie bowling is top class..they will make life very tough
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
Hardik is in India..How much I would have loved to have him around!
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
Yeah, that is why I stopped short of letting Umesh go..
Where to now for India after 36 all out?
India have always faced green tops in England and NZ..They have not complained after losing..India have beaten England on such seaming wickets in Lord’s and Headingley..
Think India's two-day Test pitch was unplayable? That’s a myth
