The last couple of weeks were just like playing Invercargill! If anything our handling errors increase when we haven’t got a bit of weather on…2 weeks of horrendous weather – well on our way to a repeat of 2015

Highlanders heroics make for a disturbance in the Force

First person on here to recognise that that statement was as much towards Eddie (i.e. it was a warning not to try that shit with him) and a bit of dig at Cheika – whether he likes it or not you have to play the media. Hansen had to get in a PR specialist when he took over the ABs top job so he could improve his popularity with the media and connect to the people.

Shag is rough around the edges but at least he smiles more than Graham Henry did…Cheik needs to play the game.

Hansen's comments "shallow": Cheika

Sopaga will be the starting First 5 by the end of the AB’s season this year if he keeps this up. He performs well under pressure (how can we forget his screamer of a debut at Ellis park) controls the back line, creates options for the backs and can run at the line as well.

I think Sopoaga may start at the beginning based on Super rugby performance, Cruden is no good without a Second 5 that he gels with and Barret is a weapon off the bench so will cement his position there I dare say. If Fekitoa and Crotty become our new centre pairing (Rugby gods willing) Sopoaga is perfect to slot in there.

Goal kicking a looming problem for the All Blacks

Haha the passion is strong in this one…

You raise valid points about “Greats” not being as definitive and clear cut, and I definitely put BOD and even Gregan in there – one might even argue if you consider how Jonah was never at his fittest what further impact on the game he would have had. Maybe we should pro-rata his skill based on an able bodied performance? (This actually would be interesting).

My point is there are lots of greats in Rugby that have brought so much to this game and only the future will really tell how revered he will be in the history books of world rugby. But you are not wrong I am basing my GOAT call of McCaw on longevity – the All Blacks is the hardest team in the world to retain your position in (just ask Israel Dagg) if you don’t maintain at the highest standards there is someone nipping at your heels waiting to take your place.

In conclusion what do we have in this ever evolving game but longevity while maintaining some of the highest athletic standards to discern greatness?

Rugby World Cup final marks the end of an era

You are comparing apples with oranges my friend – as an all round player taking into account, fitness, skill, knowledge and leadership on the field no one comes close to McCaw.

If David Pocock is still around come 147 tests and still performing at the level that McCaw is (or greater) then we can say that – until then, give McCaw and Pocock the respect they have earned.

Not sure why you are getting all bent out of shape this is not a comparison just an homage to the greatest player of the game to date.

Rugby World Cup final marks the end of an era

Agreed, our true test comes next week against a springbok team building momentum.
The Boks hard a harder test against a team that had come through a tough pool with belief in them. The French, never showed it. For once in RWC history the French were consistent and predictable still, we got a better run and got to stretch our legs…bring on the semis.

All Blacks too complete for flaky France

Fekitoa has not had a lot of game time – disappointing as this years super rugby season saw his defensive game improve immensely. He had more turnovers than the higlanders looseys by the end of the season – not to mention the amount of balls he ripped from tackles (Semi-final warratahs tackle on folau). Fekitoa makes a great 13 – what I am worried about is a good 12 to support the first-five on the infield and straighten up for the outside centre…

All Blacks' success a double-edged sword

Agreed Pocock is a genuine gentleman of the game reminds of Jean de Villiers a true ambassador for world rugby – surely a strong contender for IRB player of the year (Pocock not de Villiers). But even the cleanest of players can have “brain farts” in the heat of the moment – even the great Richie McCaw showed us he was human with his tripping incident.

What bugs me is the inconsistency with the citings Tuilagi did not deserve anything for running into that tackle – everyone knows the Japanese tackle low, it is one of their tactics not his fault his head ran into his knee. What Pocock did was deliberate and whilst I think the ruling is correct (given his record and the nature of the incident) is it too much that we ask for consistency.

David Pocock avoids citing; calf still sore

Folau never actually went airborne and it was a fair contest of the ball – but agreed on the floundering for a penalty, Nigel Owens would of had a word or two to say to him…
