Jez…EJ has already said that his original plan was to keep the same squad and get through the RWC and then start the rebuild (refer interview with Peter Fitzsimmons) He tried option A with terrible results and couldnt see any hope of the old brigade putting together a reasonable RWC performance so he pulled the trigger early on the rebuild. Whether you/I agree or disagree is irrelevant but at least we should respect that EJ has considered the options and tried option A first. However I also think there are some poor selections (Lonergan 9, Samu, Donaldson. Vanivalu, other?) within the strategy to start the rebuild early.

Mark N also needs to improve his positional play and contact toughness. Caught narrow several times, steam rolled (stepped aside) for Dante’s try, and loitering 15 metres back in the pocket when France went wide for a break and then chipped him. He looks a bit light-on for Rugby IQ.

The France match has shown that Australia needs all its first choice players fit a playing. The other main takeaway was the importance of combinations. Petaia without Kerevi looked lost ( I wouldn’t have Foketi in the squad). If Ikitau was fit then he would partner Kerevi. Korobete also adds more than Vunivalu to the back three combination. Whilst I like McDermotts running game the fact is that Gordons goal kicking isn’t good enough (yet) and that needs to be addressed: probably Lonergan and Carter. Cant play tournament rugby without a reliable goal kicker. I also think that Arnold and Skelton cant start together. Frost and Skelton are the best combination with Philip on the bench.

I think Quade is cooked. I was at Lang Park for his very first SR match against the Chiefs (poor kid had an absolute shocker) and I’ve been a bigger supporter since. But I think age and injuries have caught up with him.

Selecting Skelton as Captain for the RWC is a good choice. Biggest bloke in the team, calm temperament, European experience, wining mentality and experience, speaks French…. Meanwhile all Revok has got is that he is a “useless T1t”, which is evidently incorrect. Are you making things up?

The coaching team that Eddie has assembled has been very underwhelming and under qualified. This is an opportunity to improve the Rugby IQ of the coaching team. The AUS A coaching team is also the reserve coaching options. Gilmore will do it. And while you’re at it Eddie, get rid of Hodgson and bring in Larkham, Fisher and Wisemantel.
