Excellent wrap Geoff. I think your comments re HIA’s are well considered. I hate to say this but maybe an AFL type ban process might be a thought?! And there was I thinking Phil was in Europe! Obviously happy to let the “Organ Grinder” take the wrap rather then brave the room himself. Also worth noting every single RA person left as soon as the Wallaroos game finished.

He referred to the NZ women’s union team as “the KiwiFerns” also their women’s league team.
But the final insult was he didn’t even mention the names of the men’s teams playing but referred to the match as 4th V 6th. He didn’t need to speak but did, one suspects, want to show the room who “was in control” self aggrandizing that went badly wrong!

Great wrap as always Geoff. Great commentary on RA’s complete inability to understand their role as the governing body of member unions, and their total failure to understand the constitution!

RA’s response consists of several out and out lies. RA was absolutely aware of the MRRU financial situation in 2023. They received monthly financial reports and in fact it was RA who consistently cancelled Super Rugby finance meetings. RA knew of the DPN’s as soon as they were received and indeed it is highly likely that RA leaked the existence of these notices to the press. RA now want to hold a meeting with Rebels staff tomorrow on the morning of match day. What does this say about their commitment to acting in the best interests of Rugby in Australia??

Absolutely spot on regarding Lomani. The idea that so additional circumstances allowed for the suspension to be reduced is laughable. This is what teams the parents of young players off our game

Could not agree more! Where do I sign up? I would strongly suggest googling Alexi Baker and Hans Pearson to see their credentials to be nominated for the RA board. Pearson does at least support Rugby Union, Storelocal is an offical partner of QLD Rugby.

I may be wrong but I think the TMO can only intervene if there has been foul play, as with Lomani. If the Ref in the centre doesn’t as for a review his on field decision stands.

Couldn’t agree more! Let’s not forget next game is a Saturday evening with the Super W game as a curtain raiser at 5pm. Absolutely no excuse for anyone who is or was a fan not to get to the stockade and show their support for the Rebels Men and Women. #BeARebel !!

And it has spectacularly failed in the Super W comp as well. The women deserve the same quality of referees as the men, arguably better as there is no TMO in Super W (don’t get me started) and yet three games so far this season have been refereed by an inexperienced young referee who has made countless officiating errors. It is just not good enough

RA has allowed the Waratahs to stack their team with tier 1 salaried Wallaroos. More than 10 multi capped wallaroos in the starting line up on Friday. So much depth in some positions that capped Wallaroos can’t even get on the bench! RA are clearly showing their lack of respect for the women’s game with their inability to provide top tier referees and even TMO’s. There is SO much talent on display in the youth girls around the country and ZERO investment from RA to be seen anywhere.

An excellent summary of the weekends rugby Geoff and thank you for your accurate and honest commentary on the RA/Rebels situation. The only thing you failed to mention was the appalling disrespectful failure of anyone at the RA Waratahs to actually present the Weary Dunlop Trophy to the Rebels! Captain Rob Leota had to actually go and pick up the trophy (named after a true Australian Hero) from the plinth himself. Not a Stan presenter or Waratah in sight. Disgraceful under any circumstance.

Couldn’t agree more, and the same for the Super W comp. Our Wallaroos were absolutely exposed last weekend by the lack of game time they have had since the WXV last year.
