There are some promising signs, but I’m still not overly confident.

ANALYSIS: The game plan changes that have revived the All Blacks as a World Cup force

Well done Aussies. Congrats from a Kiwi.

PS I reckon England were less deserving when they won the 2009 Ashes.

UK View: 'Timid, petrified' Aussies escape in 'galling travesty' - as Pommy Pauline Hanson's hypocrisy exposed

Good side, and with a better spinner would be fantastic.

I’d make AB or WG captain, pick Watling as keeper instead of Dhoni, and Abbas or McCabe instead of Gooch (especially at no 4), but can’t really quibble.

Team of the Month: a July-born World Cricket XI

They had the perfect opportunity to bring Foakes into the squad (and XI) and play Bairstow as a specialist bat. Madness that they didn’t.

It is the NZ govt representatives who decide upon our knighthoods, not English cricket officials. McCullum has no chance, although Williamson might get one in a few years.

So Sunak has an ethical problem with a dismissal in a cricket match, yet wants to send asylum seekers to Rwanda!??!

I’ve been following cricket since a young kid in the 80s and this wouldn’t rank in the 50 worst things done in cricket in that time. Talk about making Everest out of a mole hill.

PS Madness not to bring Foakes into the squad.

Brilliant satire. I love the name btw.

Emersons and Monteiths are pretty good.

If England’s top order hadn’t been 45/4 in the rin chase, this wouldn’t have been an issue.

Point 1: I’m a Kiwi from the same part of NZ as BMac (Otago) and he is talking rubbish. He did worse to Murali. Also, Paul Collingwood who is in the English coaching team was happy from Grant Elliott to be run out when Ryan Sidebottom knocked him over.

Point 2: Broad is the same bloke who didn’t walk and laughed about and also urinated on a pitch.

Point 3: I didn’t see England upholding the Spirit of cricket when we were robbed of the 2019 World Cup.

4: I wouldn’t have a beer with the Aussie or England teams personally, but that’s because both countries make terrible beer!

I’d pick Neser instead of Starc. Starc’s batting has been very important for Australia and Neser is even better, while Hazelwood is a bunny with the bat.

Boland, Starc or Hazlewood - which fast bowler should miss cut for Ashes opener?

I’ve seen plenty of cheating over the years from Australian (and other) cricketers, but that wasn’t an example of it. He caught it. Move on.

REACTION: 'Cheat, cheat, cheat!' Greats fume, fans enraged as Green catch controversy divides cricket world

I agree. NZ has underperformed in the last 2 years (combination of bad form, ageing, and injuries), but we still had 2 absolutely AMAZING tests a few months ago – (a 1 run win over England after following on & a 2 wicket win over Sri Lanka when scoring the winning run off the last allowed ball of day 5). Non cricket fans (who usually bag our team) were buzzing.

Ultimate Test for WTC final is for the concept to survive long term in light of T20 global explosion

Dominant display by Australia. I only watched the 1st hour before going to bed but Warner and Labuschagne showed plenty of guts.

Btw, Ashwin actually bowled well in the 2021 WTC final taking 4 of the 12 NZ wickets to fall in the test (15 overs 2 for 28 & 10 overs 2 for 17). With 5 lefthanders in Australia’s top 8 it seems a baffling decision.

No Dale Steyn is a huge call.

He’s one of the greatest bowlers of all time.

Team of the month: A June-born World XI

Quality side. Surely Dickwella at 7 and Wasim at 8 though.

Team of the month: A June-born World XI

He played 2 games for King Country. He wouldn’t be close to an NPC team, let alone a Super Rugby squad. Wouldn’t be in the top 100 midfielders in NZ. All the best to him in league though – I hope he does well.

The Nathan Lyon of the NRL: Meet the union prodigy who's gone from mowing lawns to Magic Round with Dolphins

Well the Australian assistant coach is of Italian descent and he played over 100 tests (admittedly for NZ, not Oz).

Thanks Stuart Broad: you've helped us realise that England have NEVER won the Ashes

The great Dave Gallaher who captained the 1905/06 Original All Blacks (possibly the greatest rugby team of all time) died in Ypres in Belgium in WWI (volunteering as a 40 year-old). He had actually fought in the Boer War as well many years earlier.
The Gallaher Trophy is played for in Auckland club rugby, and the Dave Gallaher Trophy is on the line when the All Blacks play France. Several AB teams have visited his grave whilst touring the northern hemisphere.

Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, and Harmanpreet Kaur were also in the 5 players of the year.

Stokes, Mooney crowned world's leading cricketers after stellar years of success

The conditions at Lincoln (near Christchurch) were nothing like England. Batting in NZ in April is pretty easy which is why NZ A chased down 360 to win.

Timing is everything: Renshaw mounts late Ashes bid as pressure mounts on selectors to make call on Warner

Kane averaged 75 in the WTC while Marnus averaged 54.
