Alan, my point is.. how can a coach who has very little time with his squad have a lot to do with the way that team performs? I am not disregarding Loffreda’s work with Los Pumas but I think a team that had only a single style of play and little time together could not be seen to be coach driven, especially with the experienced players that squad contained. It is the same scenario with England during the WC. They played a simple game through experienced players, and yet nobody gives Ashton a single thought. I don’t think it’s logical to accredit Loffreda too much, especially when he was quite bad with greater resources and (to an extent) players at Leicester. Anyhow, you think Argentina have suffered due to his departure and I think they have suffered because of the loss of the maul. Let’s not forget that France only beat them by 6 points. Hardly a disgrace. I think the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Regarding the WC I don’t think Argentina would have progressed had they played Timbuktu in the semi-final.. my reasoning being that the players were not physically attuned for the knockout competition, something that relates to their lack of meaningful and regular competition. They were out on their feet in the semis and looked pretty close to losing against Scotland in the QF. Having said that the 3rd place game was a marvellous reinvigoration.

The Pumas lacking bite

in my own opinion the Euro`s are overated, not the players in them. People say that the Euro`s are great but they are nothing in comparison to the world cup. They are not a big sporting event, I can name loads of sporting events that get more hype than the Euro`s, the world cup, the cricket world cup, the rugby union world cup, the open, the masters in tennis and even the superbowl. In football you can`t just judge a nation from one bad tournament.

Applause from all angles for Del Piero

Sorry Benjamin, but why are we refering to the euro`s all of a sudden?, sure it was a bad year for the Itallian side but this article started of about Del Piero then it moven on to the indivduals if itallian football but when did the Itallian team come into this?

Applause from all angles for Del Piero

In the past this man has been a footballing icon and don`t get me wrong he still is a great player but I think that he should one day soon hang up his legendary boots. One of the greatest Itallian players of all time, no doubt, but now he`s not. Great two goals against Real on wednesday but not as good as his goals were five years ago. Well done and congratulations Alessandro but enought is enought. Thanks for the memories, well done mate.

Well Happy Birthday Luiz, but personally I don`t think his birthday is the important part of the matter (no offense to him) but the main point is that Chelsea have bounced back from there defeat in Rome to a win in the prem against a tough Blackburn side.

Chelsea go top to give Scolari perfect birthday gift
