Gil is a master at it though. Demetriou tended to bumble a bit at times and wasn’t as polished in front of the press when taking the heat.

Six things that the AFL free agency and trade period showed us we need

Shrewd as in the AFL will come out smelling like roses from this one by misdirection, prestidigitation and spin.
Failing that they will fade from the spotlight by going very quiet on it.

Adding to what Paul D said, Gillon and co have a legal team that is consulted regularly on these issues. They are very aware of what to do and how. While you and I may know very little about the legal side of things, they are certainly across it.
Just look at what has happened since Gillon has been at the helm, he is a very intelligent and shrewd CEO and will do everything he can to prevent bringing the AFL into the legal spotlight for the wrong reasons.

I can’t believe they kept Jones over Everitt.

Having an outdated Logo still up is another indication of how much these people really care about the Club. It speaks volumes to me.

They should get outside, independent people to come in and decide on the right coach. That way there is no bias for a particular person. I like the idea of a 3 + 2 deal, that will give them some incentive.

These are professional sporting clubs and should have the right facilities as well. More needs to be done.
Being a Blues supporter, I can feel the pain of the Lions fans.

Who should be the next coach of the Brisbane Lions?

Lol.

Who should be the next coach of the Brisbane Lions?

Spot on.

Wilson fires back at "Neanderthal" Newman

I was surprised by the Crows delisting him. As you say Liam, “Many players are delisted after a period of time on the list without contributing or failing to play a game, but Wright did not fall into those categories.”

He was a reasonably solid contributor for the Crows and SOS obviously did his homework with Matt.
As they say, Their loss…..

The Wright way to fly under the radar

My big call for the week – Hawthorn won’t make the top 4. I think they will be squeezed out by GWS on percentage.
I think Western Bulldogs will finish 6th, while Adelaide and West Coast will slog it out for the last 2 positions in the 8.

I think we will see where Port are at this week against Carlton. I still don’t think they are top 8 material.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time a team played in 5 grand finals in a row?

Reframing the AFL premiership market

7 what? He will really need a big night out if you are talking goals.
Due to his current form, he will likely get 7 kicks. Once he is fit and right to play, then look out opposition defenders.

The Blues are headed in the right direction and I only had them for 3-4 wins at the start of the season and agree with Macca that they will only win 6.
I also think the wins will far outweigh the draft position, they will still get a top 6 pick. The crowd has fallen silent on SOS’ drafting ability and how bad the playing list is. Yes, I realise they they did drop 15 players and could lose a few more.
For all the talk of the shallow draft, I think the Blues managed to pick up some very good, long term players.

ROSE and RYAN: Are Carlton winning too much?

The odd thing is that Casboult kicked a few passes and nailed them to the man with opposition a few paces away. It seems to be only in front of goal that he tends to crumble.

AFL Power Rankings: Round 6

The Blues by 30 points. That would be awesome but I don’t think it will happen. Around 2 goals would be my guess depending on what Essendon bring this week.

Leigh Matthews said something a few years back that stuck with me and appears reasonably true – a team tends to start their next game the way they finished their last. If that is correct, the first quarter will be a good one and I think the Blues are the slightly better team.

There are a few games this week that are hard to pick. I think GWS will push but Hawthorn have the goods to just get over the line once again. North are in top form and the dogs have some key injuries so North for me. Melbourne and the Cats will earn the 4 points the hard way with a close finish in each game. The rest of the games are unlikely to finish in an upset.

It is quite often number 3. More often than not, there is something happening behind the scenes that the everyday punters don’t see.

I agree Brinnx, I was a bit surprised that he replaced Graham.

Dr Jones and Mr Jones: A tale of two sides

I think the Blues are ripe for their first win of the season. I really hope they can get over the line this week and are my pick for the upset of the round.

The battle of the wooden spoon

Carlton have not been to Adelaide in a few years now.

The battle of the wooden spoon

I am with you Macca, I have tipped the Blues for the upset of the round this week. I hope your lock is picked and busted wide open this week, Josh.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 5

That would be that bloke who hasn’t played a game for that club he went to, whoever they were. They certainly aren’t crowing about him in SA.

An ode to Bryce Gibbs: When is it contract year?

I think too many have the Bombers under-rated this season. Melbourne definitely made that mistake.
Although they won’t make finals, I don’t believe they will be in the bottom two either.

Collingwood are on the slide, Richmond are the same old.
Port had their glory year in 2014, many players are over rated and they will finish around 10th this year.
Adelaide are playing scarily good football and will make the eight, Melbourne are at the other end of that spectrum and will take the Wooden pot stirrer to put in their trophy case (or in the second drawer in the kitchen, with the others).

My two cents worth.

AFL Round 2 Performance reviews (part 1)

The Showdowns are never easy to pick and it will be harder this year than ever before. Both teams seem to lift and play a totally different brand of footy in these games.
I went for Port as they played at home last week and I think that may be an edge. The Crows have had three coaches in three seasons and I think that may also have an effect at some point throughout the season. This is not saying that their current coach won’t do well, Pyke has them playing well and I think he will take them up the ladder but just not this year.
