I have a gut feeling that the Blues are going to upset a few teams this year. Sydney may be one of them.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions 2016: Round 2

Tippett generally takes care of himself and is not really a worry. There are a lot of Sydney players above him.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions 2016: Round 2

I love this article, there is no fact in it whatsoever. A good “conversation starter” for the passionate fan.

AFL's top eight is a joke and everyone knows it

Potentially a good idea. I agree with Samantha though, the injured player would be dropped for the following week for all games, including reserves, and it would be only decided by an independent doctor.

Should there be an injury interchange rule in the AFL?

“Nevertheless, AFL finals are electric.” End of argument – The defence rests, Your Honour.

AFL's top eight is a joke and everyone knows it

Only because you mentioned it Rick. Lol.

AFL's top eight is a joke and everyone knows it

I would love to see the Blues beat the Tigers by a point, kicked after the siren.
Carlton win and the media will have a meltdown. Everyone will be calling for Hardwick’s head after round 1 and there will be hysteria in the streets.

Either way, as a Blues fan and a realist, I still tipped Richmond to win.

Opening Night Forecast: Richmond Tigers v Carlton Blues

True, maybe we should do that then.

Forget expansion, cut the AFL to 12 teams

Disregarding the fact that it won’t happen because of the reasons given, if 6 teams go, shouldn’t they be Victorian teams?
Surely it would be logical if it were to remain a national competition with two teams from each state.
Not sure which six at this stage, they all have reasons for and against. Something to look at this week maybe.

Forget expansion, cut the AFL to 12 teams

My money is on the two WA teams. At least one, if not both, will be there on the big day.
5 Grand Finals in a row is a big task for any team, although it is not impossible and the good teams , like Hawthorn tend to rise to the challenge. I think not this time though.

Why Hawthorn can’t win the premiership

Brendon Bolton will make Clarko look like an amateur this year.

Five left-field predictions for 2016 AFL

1. Wingard and Bennell for my money on the Coleman.
2. Sydney will end up around 8 or 9th.
3. Ticked off, long suffering Blues supporter hopes Yarran is the exception to the rule and has a bad year. Sadly, Tigers might do better this year, me thinks.
4. Leppa signed an extension, Buckley is the big bet if they don’t perform. Can’t remember the last year a coach didn’t get the sack.
5. Maybe not a demolition but a close win for the Dee’s, and…
6. One of my own, Carlton will not finish 18th.

Five left-field predictions for 2016 AFL

Hal, the positive on Cachia is that he played really well for Norwood in the SANFL and is back there now. I haven’t been able to get to the practice matches but will get to the season games. He did well in the practice matches and hopefully the AFL might have improved him a bit.
Useless trivia for you, Carlton’s current Norwood Connection: Neil Craig played for and coached Norwood, Gorringe also played for them.

Carlton's blues: An age old problem

Hard to say which way it will go against Essendon, the Blues were missing the midfield and a few others. I think the Blues will win at least one of the two games, possibly both. As you say, it is dangerous to underestimate any team on a given day.

It is time to look forward for the Blues and they are doing exactly that.
The anti-Carlton brigade is still stuck in the past as that is all they have to go on, they either can’t or refuse to see what is ahead. The Blues may not do well on the ladder this year but it is not about wins this year, it is about improving.

Another long, Blue year looms for Carlton

I agree ith most of that, except for the being at the bottom for decades to come. With Trig and LoGuidice at the helm, I think the Blues are in good hands. Everyone goes on about the Tippet saga with Trigg but he did some great stuff here in SA. He played a significant role in returning footy to Adelaide oval and that has been a huge success. Greg Swann was the disastermind behind the Malthouse affair and is now at Brisbane. Haven’t they gone well since he got there.
As for letting Yarran go, he didn’t want to be there so it was pointless keeping him.
Carlton are moving forward and I think SOS knows what he is doing with recruiting the GWS guys, he has watched them for a few years now. We only need one or two to work out for that to be a successful trade, there will be duds at every team over time.
Kerridge has already silenced the critics on his trade with Menzel (haven’t heard any more since NAB 1) and given time, a few more will too.

A long way back for the once mighty Blues

You, me and every other Carlton fan, Paul D.

2016 AFL season forecast: Where will your team finish?

I am as positive as you are for the Blues, Connar, however not quite as confident. I hope they do get to 14th but seriously think they will only come of the bottom by one or two spots at most. For mine, I generally agree but I would swap St Kilda and Essendon, take Colliwobbles and Sydney out of the 8 and move Adelaide and WB up a couple of spots.

2016 AFL season forecast: Where will your team finish?

I agree with you on Jared Grant. Experience will help Grant develop but he needs to do something to improve his game. Talia would be a good fit at a few clubs, I think he can be a constant contributor and make the 22 on a regular basis in most clubs not in the eight this year.

AFL Moneyball: Delisted players worth another chance

I would like to see Adcock, Matt Wright and Grimley at the Blues. I think they would be solid contributors while the club is rebuilding and Jed Adcock’s leadership would be invaluable in supporting the likes of Murphy, Gibbs and Simmo.
Maybe throw in Simpkin as well to bolster the midfield.

AFL Moneyball: Delisted players worth another chance

I would agree with your list, Tom. I have been following the draft this year and I don’t think it is as shallow as many make it out to be. Rioli, Hibberd, Nyuon and Markov will be solid contributors if they get a good, injury free run.
It will be a wait and see to really know how they will go but I think there are a few more in there that could be good pick ups.
Davin Ferriera and Pat Levicki from Norwood in the SANFL are also in the mix and I can see both becoming AFL stars.

2015 AFL draft drospects – The hidden gems

Over the years there have been a number of people with European origins playing. It is good to see more culturally diverse players coming into the system.

2015 AFL draft drospects – The hidden gems

I am all for option two, all of them as a pentathlon type where each sport plays against all the others for points. Also include the moving goal posts just for interest. The highest points win the trophy. Call it the All Round World Sports Championship.

Seriously though, I think a bye is a good idea and have all the Club awards or Brownlow / AA awards that weekend.

How about a state of origin made up of players from the teams at 9 – 18? Maybe three matches over two days as a lead into the finals. Have two 30 minute halves and charge a reduced nominal entry fee to encourage attendance. Even a Charity match in each state made up of players that have retired would be something. Games like the E.J. Whitten game or the S.A. Slowdown which are always fun games to watch.

Breaking down the 2016 AFL fixture

Carlton haven’t played in Adelaide in years, it would be good to go to a game at Adelaide oval and see the team I follow rather than two teams I don’t follow.

Breaking down the 2016 AFL fixture

I think Jamar is past his best and might make a one year backup but wouldn’t bet on it.
I am one who is a bit surprised by the Zac O’Brien delisting, I think he would be a handy pick-up for most clubs looking for that style of player. I wold be happy to have him at the Blues.

A second chance for delisted players: Part 1

I like the idea of a break before the finals, it gives all teams an equal opportunity to rest. Being a Blues fan, it really won’t affect me too much this year.
