That rule is I think the most frustrating “adaption” we’ve had over the past couple of years and is a complete overreaction. It goes against what we’ve been taught as kids to go get the ball. The one lesson I always remember from my old man was that remember you can always do more damage with the ball if you keep your feet and don’t go to ground though…

Reaction to Sam Mitchell's banter is an embarassment

How much have Carlton paid per annum for a busted up utility player in Thomas though? Surely you were going to get a better return from Betts?

Carlton singing the Eddie Betts Blues

Great comment Chris… The BBL is bringing in an income that Cricket Australia never thought they would get out of a domestic competition.

The imitation game: Should England copy the Big Bash?

West Ham had beaten Spurs in the previous 3 encounters.. good article though Dan.

EPL Round 1: Winners and losers

No mention of Tottenham in the winners section? Down to 10 men for 40 minutes before a sending off for west ham as well then having a debutant score in the 92 minute!

EPL Round 1: Winners and losers

I’m in your corner on this one Fuss.. I’m excited about the challenge ahead and believe we can catch people out with our relatively unknown and unheralded group.. I think Ange is moving the roos in the right direction.

Socceroos fans should worry about 2014 before 2022

One thing you didn’t bring up in the article Cam, is the notion that Franklin and his management approached the Swans after the 2012 Grand Final? How can this be the swans fault if they are being approached by one of the biggest stars in AFL to join their club? Would you be begrudging of Richmond if (hypothetically) they had been approached and had already done a deal to bring Tom Hawkins to Tigerland for 2015?

Once admired, the Swans are now despised

Can’t say it’s Australian ingenuity there chaps, I’ve worked at lords and the oval as well as numerous festivals in the UK back in 06 and we had one machine that poured 16 beers at a time… Can’t believe that modern stadium operators haven’t cottoned on to the fact that they can pre pour beers 5 minutes before quarter time and half time and get people in and out a lot quicker… but they’d rather have one person serving and another working the till….

Roof and all: Details on the Allianz Stadium development

Are Sydney still contracted to play 3 games a year there maybe?

Will we finally see the Buddy and Kurt show this weekend?

I thought Tom Derickx did a brilliant job in the ruck Saturday night against the Lions… I suspect Tippet will help him out in the forward line a bit with the ruck work but Tom is going to have a big workload Friday night…

Will we finally see the Buddy and Kurt show this weekend?

I think the reds were trying but it’s very difficult to play a passing game on a pitch that was just deplorable… All credit to the Reds for changing it up and going for glory after half time..

Great finish, now bring on the A-League finals

Looking forward to heading there on Saturday to watch the mighty Swannies get up against the Crows.. Can’t wait to catch the tram into the city, head off to a pub for a couple of frothies then stroll down to and sample what this magnificent venue has to offer. I’ve been very jealous of Melburnians and their ability to do this at Etihad and the MCG.

When they announced a few years ago that AAMI stadium was going to get a $150 million upgrade a collective groan came up from the people in this state. Well done by all parties for making this magnificent venue come to fruition… Long Live the Hill!!

Port Adelaide and Adelaide Oval: Jewels in the AFL's crown

Couldn’t agree more with you Steve, I think it’s a massive gamble for United but it’s one that they have been backed into a corner for. They do have a rather large debt to service due to the Glazer take over still, but missing out on champions league won’t affect the servicing of this due to a new kit sponsorship and also an improved cash bonanza from the tv rights for all premier league clubs.

I’m betting there will be an exodus and an influx of players to Man U this summer and they won’t (unfortunately) be in that mid table transition for long.

Should United really pay Wayne Rooney 300K per week?

Faz, I think you are missing the point mate. I’ll get this out of the way before your crucify me I’m a proud Swans supporter and a proud South Australian. The crows do not represent me at all and the decision by them to wear the state guersney was misguided in my belief. Common sense has prevailed the decision has been rescinded and we move on.

The fact that Port wear a guernsey that is different in colour but basically the same design as the state guersney doesn’t phase me at all, as I don’t identify black teal and white as SA colours. Same as if the crows had decided to go with say a yellow guernsey with a red and blue “v” as an homage to the SA heritage would have been fine and probably well received as well. I think maybe you should take your blinkers off, have a farmers union and listen to what one of the Crows greats and SA legends Mark Ricciuto says on the matter, he wasn’t happy with it….

Adelaide Crows jumper move is disrespectful

I’ve been stewing on this for a while since the 6-0 drubbing by Man city 3 weeks or so ago and then after Sunday’s performance as well. I was brimming with confidence when we let ‘arry go, he was a sideshow with his tax evasion court case and then his shameless self promoting for the England top job, he lost sight of what he was doing with Tottenham and was a liability. I thought AVB was the answer. A young fresh manager who could give us stability in the years to come and take us to the promised land again that is the Champions league and maybe even a crack in a few years time at the title.

This wasn’t the case, watching spurs this year has been a painful experience, inverted wingers, playing 2 defensive midfielders, and playing Vertonghen out of position has made it hard work. Supporters and commentators alike, over expectant of what the 7 signings that were brought in the summer would instantly gel and we’d have a champion team.

All of the faith I had in AVB disintergrated on Sunday night, 5-0 at the Lane versus a Liverpool team that looked like it was playing a championship rather than a premier league team… Levy in my opinion had to pull the trigger and let AVB go..

So where to from here? Being a spurs supporter is one that is full of ups and downs… I was hoping for managerial stability and thought with AVB we might have our man but know I’m just hoping that Levy doesn’t hire Capello, Hoddle or Klinsamnn but actually gives Tim Sherwood a sustained run at the first team and se what he can do with this group of players….

Second London failure for AVB

Baldini the director of football did the buying, not Levy…

Second London failure for AVB

Great article Glenn, I know I for one miss hearing you on the radio but am enjoying your insightful writing on the Roar..

Keep up the fantastic work.

Jonathan Trott: a personal perspective

Couldn’t have said it any better Punter… I’m just going to see if the younger guys will be given a chance now, hopefully we can bring some positives out of what’s been a struggle of a world cup campaign and a disastrous couple of months for the Socceroos.

BREAKING: Holger Osieck sacked as coach of Socceroos

I don’t think Levy will sell Bale at this point in time. They will try to build around him for next year and if we don’t make champions league next season, give him an opportunity to move on (at the right price) Spurs do need a couple of quality strikers to complement their midfield but I agree that they nedd to get rid of some of their dead wood in the process. Adebayor, David Bentley, Jermain Defoe Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone should all be looked at being shipped out of the lane this summer.

I would also really like to see more intergration of or Under 21’s into the senior side as well. Tom Carroll, Alex Pritchard and Cristan Ceballos all have a lot of talent that Spurs can harness from within their own academy set up.

Tottenham needs to be smart about Bale

Looking forward to reading your thoughts over the coming summer Glenn. A great insight but I’m struggling to think why Hussey hasn’t played a first class game (terrible preperation) and who is the next in line for the middle order spot if Huss doesn’t perform?

Australia vs Proteas: the tale of the tape

I do admire what the Crows have been able to acheive this year under Sanderson, people are always going to bring up the argument about a soft draw, but everyone knows the draw is flawed, you’ve still got to do the work and get the wins.
Unfortunately the media in Adelaide has talked them into a grand final and they might be getting ahead of themselves as they have a very resiliant Sydney team to get across on Sydney arvo…

Somehow i just feel that the soft draw toward the end of the year might hinder the crows….

Crows remind Bickley of AFL flag winners
