'It's a farce': Gus absolutely lashes out at the current state of officiating in the NRL

Agreed, the problem only exists because we could all see it was a mistake, and for whatever reason the Bunker didn’t or couldn’t intervene. That’s all that needed to happen and this conversation wouldn’t even be happening. I don’t know when the Bunker can or can’t intervene, but it wasn’t as if they didn’t have plenty of time. Old mate gets crucified on Social Media, and then gets dropped for making a mistake that could’ve been overruled, it’s dumb. How does dropping a Ref or Touchie fix anything? Does anyone think they don’t try to make the right call? Sometimes they just get it wrong, and that’s when the Bunker should be able to intervene.
I know what people are going to say, but in reality it’s not that often something as obvious as this happens. But I actually don’t care how often, I just want the right decision to be made so we don’t have to have these arguments, based primarily on which team you support or hate. Just use the technology we already have, and get it right. It’s not hard.

NRL defend 'devastated' touch judge, hit out at online trolls

What do they want the game to look like? Will anyone be watching when they get there? Gus is right, accidents happen. That wasn’t a crusher. Not saying it didn’t have the same effect. I’m saying he was doing his best to stop Maloney from getting back up, and it went wrong. The problem with Rugby League is quite often opinions are based on who you support. I don’t support either of those Teams, I support sensible decisions. If you want to stop players getting hurt you
may as well ban tackling. While you’re at it, make it a Rule you have to stop moving forward after contact. Hmm… let’s change the name of the game too, let’s call it touch.
Everyone will be happy, no-one will ever get hurt.
As Gus said, Grandmas will be able to play it.

Gus Gould blasts the NRL, fears for the future of the game

If you’re going to rate the success of a sport purely by the value of it’s TV rights deal you’ll quite possibly miss some important stuff, and reach the wrong conclusion. You need to speak to people. The NRL is losing Supporters even in it’s heartland. The game has been sanitised to the point where it only vaguely resembles Rugby League, and it’s boring.
Before anyone starts quoting figures about how many people watched SOO, or the GF, don’t bother because it doesn’t mean anything. People are band wagoners these days, not necessarily Supporters.
The average person doesn’t identify with the average NRL player any more. Stupid haircuts and dumb tattoos only appeal to some people. It is not the working class game any more. I hope all the extra cash doesn’t end up in the pockets of at best ordinary players, of which there are plenty, and plenty who we should not be applauding at all, but for some reason the Media seems to love them. And that same media, particularly the FTA media who everyone on here seems to be in love with are leading the charge. They’ll do or say anything to get us to watch their crap, and we do because we have to, so the problem is perpetuated.
The NRL is bringing itself into disrepute by allowing CH9 to continue broadcasting their game, they should be suspended.

If Fox don’t end up broadcasting NRL games it will be a tragedy. Channel 9’s Commentary Team are inferior in every way to Fox’s. It’s not Fox that anyone needed to be worried about. Ch9 have displayed perfectly their total lack of care for the Fans of Rugby League over the past 3 seasons by until just recently only showing 1 live game each week. But because they are so greedy we couldn’t watch them on Fox either. “Screw the Rugby League Fans, we’ll do what we want to do” was their motto I’m sure. They’ve only just relented because they knew the time was coming for the new deal to be done. I guess those people who only have an interest in 1 team and don’t subscribe to Fox are probably satisfied, chances are you’ll get to see your Team on FTA more often, unless of course you support one of the lower ranked Teams. For people like me who like to watch most games each week, but can’t stand listening to the Boofhead Commentators on 9, probably not so good. Ch9 are not the saviour to Rugby League, they are the greatest detriment to the game. There’s so much argument about who got the best deal, based on dollars. If you ask me AFL did, regardless of the value, without a doubt! Their Game is held in high regard by both Fox and CH7 Commentary Teams, unlike the Rabble on CH9 with their constant pathetic attempts at humour and Boofheadedness. How come the ex players on Fox aren’t idiots, and can speak proper English, ohh except for Matt Johns. He should be on 9, he’d fit in perfectly.
Doesn’t matter how much money CH9 throw at the game they’ll still be partially responsible for destroying it, them and the idiots that apparently run the Game.
