Hunt can have brilliant moments, but never has he been a great game manager. He’s a better 6 or 9…. Look how good he goes at Origin, and when he played 7 for QLD he went awful. Problem is, not many quality halves on market and it would be hard for Ben Hunt to take a step back as the main man.
Lawrie needs to go.
There is a footballer in Sloan but he’s not even close to Edwards, Tedesco, Paps, Walsh, Turbo…. He’s fast, but not the whole package.

My concerns for the Dragons
– Sloan’s defence
– Blake Lawrie a great 80s prop, but too slow for modern game
– lack of squad depth
– Ben Hunt’s motivation might go missing again soon
– Bird lacks speed at centre

Early days for Dragons but gee that was concerning. Sloan is rocks and diamonds (mostly rocks) and Blake Lawrie despite trying his guts out lacks ability that so many props now have. Dragons lack depth in squad. Flanno has his work cut out for him.

Dragons.. what does Flanno do with Sloan and Amone? Sloan’s defence lacks commitment of NRL standard. Amone is slow and predictable; I mean his dummy to pass in attack hasn’t work the last 5000 times he’s tried it, you’d think he’d try other strategies.

Speed is all he has. He’s scarred, teams know this and take full advantage.

Agree in part, I like the guy but it was premature to rush him into Origin after one great season… DCE, Moses and Walker have all made a Grand Finals. His time will come….

Agree. It’s not a bad headache to have but also don’t want to get it wrong.
Edwards, Mitchell, Best, T Trbojevic, Drinkwater, Papenhuyzen, Gutherson, Burton, Crichton, To’o, Addo-Carr, Tago, Staggs, Graham…. Reality is, if all are fit and in form then likely 8 of these 14 will miss out on a starting spot. All good enough to play Origin, good to have backups I guess?

I admit I was somewhat taken back, but I always felt in a year or two Best would get a crack. With Turbo’s fitness dark cloud over next year centres, I’m ok with the selection (but respect why many are a little taken back…. Remember though, even Best was surprised). As great as he is, I agree there was no need to get Jake back with the series lost. Both he and RCG have not played much leading up to this.
