So let me sum it up. Cheika is the Trump of Rugby…

Cheika's All Black nightmare

Has to be said, the best match by the Wallabies against the ABs this year. Across the park they stepped up.

Dunno why Cheika waited so long to put the center pairing in place – instead continuing with that poor cooper/foley experiment.

@dontcallmeshirley – I don’t think that score flatters the ABs at all. They play 80 minutes not 60 or 65. Cheika himself said you have to match the ABs for 80 minutes to have chance.

@balad – yes the ABs were not their polished selves. But part of that has to be the challenge from the Wallabies. They pressured and questioned the ABs like they haven’t for some time. This step up in pressure likely took off some of the now usual AB polish.

Cheika seething at clown portrayal

I rate Folau as a decent player. He’s a talent. But has he reached his potential? No. It would be fair to say his form has dropped a long way this season.

I think that this year’s Wallaby performances have piled the pressure on and it’s showing in his game play. The ABs have had their issues with players like Dagg and Savea in the same way – not so much because of the team’s performances but the mindset of trying to get even better and overthinking their respective games. Both had form issues. Dagg fell out of last year’s WC team. This year, Julian missed out on his usual starting spot.

There has been so much hype about Folau in the past which has created huge expectations on the guy. The poor start for the Wallabies season has simply piled on the pressure. And unfortunately the cracks are showing.

I thought the Aus v SA game was quite boring – limited attacking ability from either side although Aus showed a little more. But I’m an AB’s supporter, so the benchmark is high.

SPIRO: Oh dear, Wallabies lose to back-to-the-future Springboks

I’m glad you feel Cheika will be able to change his ways (his favoring of the ‘mongrel’ style to make up for deficiencies in player skill and strategic nous). From what I’ve seen I don’t have much confidence in that. He has been shown up short and his response is to chuck the toys out of the sandpit.

Confused. You say Cheika’s the right guy, yet you question the preparation for the Bledisloe tests. Doesn’t add up.

Cheika’s main strategy for the second test was for the Wallabies to bring the niggle. The margin was smaller but the result? They said defence would be an easy fix. Still missed 30 tackles. So maybe not so easy.

Cheika has lost 6 on the trot including last year’s WC final. And his main reaction last weekend was we’re not getting a fair playing field from the refs. Does he wonder why given his own actions? All seems like desperation and deflection.

If that’s his way until 2019, you can kiss your chances of getting a third WC title goodbye.

Agree that the ARU has a lot to answer for including development of the game at grassroots at the expense of making their egos feel good with big salaries and fancy travel.
