Well written article and straight to the point. The old football commission was far better at administering the game itself, including rule changes, etc. The AFL needs its wings clipped – it should only be responsible for the higher level, and have no jurisdiction over state leagues and community level leagues. The mid-season rookie draft is just another example of their meddling with solid, vibrant state leagues.

Why the AFL is bad for Australian rules football

If you watched the games closely, you will notice Gibbs doesn’t do the hard things. I noticed it especially in the match against Fremantle, where there were a number of occasions he sat off the play and this allowed his opponent too much latitude. He’s a talented player, but needs to tighten up when he doesn’t have the ball. Jenkins is another who doesn’t relish body contact – I think it relates to his rib injury back in Apr 2017, and I think he’s been more tentative ever since. As far as Pyke though, I am starting to wonder, given the players who’ve left haven’t exactly been glowing in their praise of him (could be they’re too much of the millenial-type and can’t handle constructive criticism, but it could also be a bit of an indictment on Pyke’s ability to manage players).

The pressure is now on Don Pyke

Langer should be sacked before he even takes the reins with his statement that he’d have ball-tampered if asked to do so. This is exactly the behaviour we want to get rid of.

Justin Langer must let Australia sledge

Didn’t like his comments around Smith, Bancroft and Warner – calling them ‘kids’….all are in their mid to late 20’s. He’s almost offering them the excuse of ‘youth’ as a reason for their behaviour. They should know the difference between right and wrong well before they’re adults. What they did was unforgivable in my view – pre-meditated cheating, and then trying to cover it up. Personally, I’d prefer never to see the likes of Warner or Bancroft in a Baggy Green again. Smith may get a lifeline as he wasn’t the instigator, but rather the naive, overly trusting accomplice.

I also agree with Trader – Langer was part of the previously bad-tempered, boorish, sledging regime – so I suspect we’ll revert back to those ways once he takes the reins. Sutherland should be fired for what I think will be a very short-sighted appointment. I hope I’m wrong.

Why Justin Langer is the right man to lead Australian cricket forward

Consistency is the issue. Even with Christian the sole arbiter we now have confusing decisions. Douglas suspended Round 1 for an almost identical incident, this time nothing to answer for.

Burton-Higgins clash revives AFL bump talk

Dizzy would be my choice. If we want to change the bad boy culture then Langer and Ponting can’t be considered as they were a part of the on-field, over the top sledging behaviour. I think Dizzy has the record on the board, and always came across as someone who respected the gentleman’s game.

Justin Langer's no lay down misere to replace Darren Lehmann

Totally agree with the article. The Superbowl moves each year to stadiums ranging from 50,000 seats to approx 80,000 (rarely 100,000). The spectacle is hardly hindered by the location and spreads the benefits around the league. If I were in Adelaide, Perth or Sydney I’d be up for paying double the entry price to avoid travel / accommodation costs. I don’t agree with much of what Chris Scott says, but he was spot on in his recent response. It was a Victorian-centric decision that he was quite happy about, but he can also see the opposing viewpoint that it’s a national competition and decisions should be made for the greater good, not for the short-term benefit of one state and / or a pure money-grab from the AFL.

The AFL's grand final plan is a slap in the face to 45% of fans

Brisbane not quite the worst of the modern AFL era. Freo scored 1.7 (13) against Adelaide in 2009 (unless you’re talking about MCG games only)?

The big Victorians throw their weight around, confirming we know little about this AFL season
