LL thank you for thinking off us.

I grew up in the Parramatta districts following Manly, I know all about the hate!! I had a club membership badge pinned on me when I was born in 1968. My uncle was a 1947 pioneer of the club so I never had a choice in who I was going to follow.

I had the T Shirt ‘We hate you to!’, and boy was it a problem at some grounds. But it is a badge of honor that can never be lost. Never a wooden spoon, a GF in every decade since the 40’s, success and failures but how grand a feeling to be hated by all.

We do really hate you all,

Manly forever, forever MANLY!

I can't help being a fan of the Trbojevic brothers. Where did it all go wrong?

Oh how the list could grow!

Barba, Hopoate (John), Packer, Wicks, Watts, Tandy, Monaghan…………..

To enhance the Toddy’s we could induct annually members into the Hall of Boofhead’s and after they stand the test of time elevate them to the status of Imbecile.

Hold the awards night at the Coogee Bay Hotel, Darcy Lawler to officiate and Bumber Farrell to keep the peace.

Time for the 'Toddy': NRL should give player stupidity the recognition it deserves

Tony love your work.

For mine (biased) Manly win. But I draft in B Stewart (167 tries) for Hancock on the wing toomuch strike power to leave out, Vautin comes in for Hamilton on the bench, and unsung hero Cunningham gets a run just ahead of Jurbo.

Manly clearly ahead on points approx 7196 (1138 T, 1145 G, 69 FG) to Parra 6656 (926 T, 1626 G, 32 FG). Each club has two players score 1400 points or better and each club has three players score over 100 clubs.
Fulton – 57 FG’s!!!!
Old Cumberland Oval v Brookvale, how good!! How do you feel, I feel like a Tooheys or two!!!!!

NRL club stalwarts: Parramatta and Manly

Two questions fall out of your article, 1. is the Rugby League gene pool to shallow and 2. how do we proceed with a format?
1. So, how do we test the theory that there are not enough players. There are plenty of discussion points surrounding the lack of juniors, declining country rugby league, insufficient expansion through the Pacific Islands and PNG etc. Don’t get confused with the old ‘AMCO’ cup we are ramping this right up. We’re going to invite Amateur, semi-professional and professional teams from around the country New Zealand, Pacific Islands and PNG to participate. This about finding a stock of players who can generate the growth in our great game. But it is also about growing the game.
The invitation list is not exhaustive but could include some of the following: a plethora of armature teams from across QLD and NSW, for interest’s sake lets invite the Armed Services teams, police, combined fire/ambos, NSW Koori, QLD Murri and NZ Maori. Two teams from each state (WA, NT, SA, VIC), two from each of the North and South Island of NZ and one each from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and PNG.
To the list we would have NSW and QLD cup teams, NSW Country championship and QLD regionals teams, Jersey Flegg and colts. An invitation list like this will prove the theory of a deficient ‘gene’ pool.
2. How do we proceed with a format, not hard really the blueprint lies in England with the FA Cup and the Challenge Cup formats, not a random conference system as you suggest (all things American are not great). The modern Challenge Cup has eight rounds prior to the final. Teams are seeded, entering at different stages. The first six rounds are the Qualifying Competition, from which 32 teams progress to the first round of the Competition Proper with quarter finals, semi finals and a final.
Now we would see if there is a gene pool for expansion or not.

Reggies, expansion, the conference system and the Amco Cup

DCE’s SOO wows, its simple really ‘Hard to soar like and EAGLE when playing behind a pack of Turkeys’!!!

Give it a rest haters: Daly Cherry-Evans is awesome

Bob Fulton was not some kind of superhero, he was a SUPERHERO. He was my football GOD till he left to the Roosters. Like you I was angry, had a ’76 team poster on my wall and I blacked out his face. I kept the poster and took it to a training session in the mid 90’s and got Bozo to sign it he had a great laugh at it.

Vale Bozo, you are already greatly missed.

Farewell Bobby Fulton, a childhood hero

BMoz or B Beavan with 670 games 757 tries now that’s unbeatable. Let’s also look at the Beaver (477 games yeah I know 57 with Bradford and 71 with Catalans) his try scoring record actually sits at 238 (includes 27 tries / Bradford and 31 tries / Catalans). Always leave it to ‘Beaver’!

Ben great read. I am unashamedly a Manly man through and through. Cam Smith has been a credit to the game of rugby league. However; you have sold Steve Menzies a bit short like most people over the years have. The Beavers record of first class games stands at 477 (all clubs), 41 rep games and 2 exiles – 520 games, makes him only 8 games behind the GOAT. Oh and he scored a try or two (243 all clubs and rep). It is fair to say that the Beaver is right up there when talking about great careers and longevity.

Cam Smith, the most extraordinary ordinary player of them all
