Didnt he get dropped from the nation team for defecting to the rebel Indian League?

The Roar's Test cricket Team of the Decade

Nice article, not an easy task to say the least, glad to see it’s produced some healthy debate.

Interesting to see 4/5 of the top bowlers are spinners.

Style wise i think McGrath and Pollock are very very similar and equally effective, but Pollock shines though with the bat. For me
McGrath/Ntini out, Pollock/Steyn in.

Surprised not to see Kaspa on that bowling list.

The Roar's Test cricket Team of the Decade

I’d like to see some a little bit patience shown with the team in general, including North. I’ve felt sorry for players the likes of Hughes and Krejza who were abruptly dropped after 1 or 2 ordinary performances against very good teams like SA or England. Yet other players have been lathered in praise “pretty good” performances against the less formidable teams. I give credit to what Watson has done this summer, but there are alot early dropped catches in that string of 90’s he made this summer, Hussey was dropped 4 odd times in that recent 100 he made.

Personally i’d like to see an extra batsman & bowler being brought into the squad and rotate the players a little more frequently. This would help minimalise injuries, take a little more pressure off players for constant immediate results without retribution from the selectors and would be a great way for young prospects to gain some experience without the pressure of being thown in the deep end as Australia’s saviour in a series, or next prodigy .

Is North now surplus to requirements?

I went to those games and still thought they were great value. MC commented that he got his family in for just $25, compared to the $200-$250 range he would be paying for the international equivalent, the state version is very affordable for everyone and i’ll argue just as entertaining.

The atmosphere alone was great, the mexican wave did something like six odd laps at one stage, lol. Also never seen so many kids tearing about the place enjoying themselves. The kids also still get to see the players they recognise, Warner, Tiat, Hughes, Symonds, ect. The guest players are a great inclusion as well, i wouldnt be surprised if Gayle had played at Homebush, another coupla thousand spectators rocked up

Twenty20 offers best value entertainment

Thats a slightly harsh comparison for Yosef there Drew.

Look at Ponting as an example, as a player he played under two great captains in Tubs & S.waugh, he was mentored by them as a future captain, he also played with other great tactitions, M.Waugh, Warnie, Hyden, McGrath, ect ect. Even now Ponting has players he can turn to for advice and draw from their experience…North, Hussey, Katich, Clark.

I dont think Yosef has had these luxeries, even Akram was mentored by Khan. I see similarities in the way he captains, to the way Inzimam use to, and he also was a very good player, not a great captain. Yousef is the most experienced/established in a very young side and all they have as far as captains go. Hopefully some like Waquar Younis can help guide him a little more positively.

Yousuf should be staring in the mirror

Wow! They’ve certainly gotten you knickers in a knot precious….

Personally i enjoy the Channel 9 commentary (ok maybe not Nicholas) and feel it’s quite well balanced.

4 former international captains, whom credibally comment on condtions and tactics and the game overall, Benaud often gives great insight into the art of spin bowling, Slats with similar insight of batting techniques. A decent unison of past and modern players.

I equally like ABC’s coverage.

I also feel they give props where props are due. I’ve heard plenty of praise for the captaincy and performance of Chris Gayle. Benn, Asif, Aamer (sp?), the new young Paki keeper all have had their fair share of praise from the commentators.

TV cricket commentary running short on form

Yousef was running for 3 from the start, it was his call, he was running to the danger end, he had a right to be pissed. Given the total that was presented to them by the Aussies Yousef knew the importance of runs and wickets…if all Butt got was a deathstare from the other end of the pitch, then he was lucky.

I dont like this line of thought that cricketers shouldnt show their emotions. When i see a player become emotional, it becomes more exciting and you see the passion these guys have. Seeing the likes of Lillie or Hughes, angry as hell and steaming in, Ambrose looking like he’s about to bludgeon S.Waugh to death with his own cricket bat….emotion is the stuff legends are born out of. Many of these guys really do wear their hearts on their sleeves when they play, i feel people are too quick to critisise, and umpires too quick to hand out fines, to players who succumb to the pressure they’re under.

What worries me with Yousef is this statement to the media which you mention. I dont like that whatsoever and seems like the childishness you speak of. Also not letting the young fella bowl for half the day because he dropped Ponting, then when he finally got his chance he had his bowlers employing the tactic of bowling very wide of the off stump. It seemed to me that he was showing no faith in his players whatsoever, every time a 4 was hit, he’d move a fielder there! It was ridiculous! In the end he was basically waiting for Australia to declare. I just hope he hasnt ruined the confidence of this 17yo who i’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching this summer.

I think the cracks are starting to show in Yousef’s armour, its obivious he carrys the perfomance of the team on his own shoulders, he unnecessarly took the blame for losing the Sydney test. But the one thing a team needs through tough times is unity, singling out certain players by showing no faith in them or publicly critisizing them is not the way to go. The result will be that players wont rise to the occasion when the captain needs them the most.

Yousuf should be staring in the mirror

Something really needs to be done. I’ve never seen so many sitters dropped in an international series. I remember Zimbabwe becoming quite respected in world cricket by becoming a very positive and formidable fielding side.

Pakistan coach denies need for fielding specialist

You are right to some degree……

Pavlik knows who Mundine is. Mundine has been “trying” to set up a bout with him for a while now.

Mundine was on the verge of breaking into the US scene and was in negotiations with Don King when he made his infamous “the USA deserved 9/11” statement (which was well publicised internationally), immediately closing all his doors for promotion in that country. Mundine’s only access to the USA atm is as a manditory challenger, which he is not to Pavlik, as you said he has no reason whatsoever to fight Mundine.

That said it hasnt escaped me that Mundine has scampered back down to MW to challenge Pavlik, a fighter who has had well documented personal problems since getting his arse handed to him by Hopkins. Truth be known, Mundine at this stage couldnt beat ANY of the top 10 SMW’s atm, as usual he’s scampering around looking for the cheapest way to the top.

To me any chance of a legacy for him is shot, he may as well go on fighting local fighters and using his Rugby league friends as promotional tools so that he can pickup a paycheck at the end of the night.

Pretender Mundine is just so mundane
