As the great Jack Gibson once famously said, “you can win an argument with an idiot”. Having followed the mighty Roosters since 1952 I have watch the club reinvent itself through shrewd professional management.
During the mid 50’s to late 60’s the club was run like a local pub, with vested personal interest taking priority over the long term interest of the football club’s future. The leagues club was then situated in Oxford St Bondi Junction and yes it was an embarrassment to walk past the then temporary club premises and smell the stench of urine and vomit.

Nevertheless, after the then CEO/Chairmen Ron Jones autocratic management style was eventually voted out by footy club members a more professional management team set about restructuring the club.
Yes I’ve heard all the small minded talk about the sombrero and brown paper bags; but the Roosters are above that and manage its players beyond the football field via trade certificates and or higher education for life after footy.
If it was not for the clubs Chairman Nick during the Super War split, clubs like our neighbouring foe South Sydney and Manly would not have survived.
During the fifties and sixties I had much admiration and respect for St George at that time in the very professional way that club operated and its success in winning 11 premierships. The clubs culture was such that when I was playing for my high schools match against Marist Kogarah the whole St George team sat in the stand with the full footy gear on supporting its local high school.

The Roosters now have a very similar culture and thier view is long term success.

'Hate makes the wins so much sweeter': What it's like to be a Roosters fan

Without doubt, Norm Provan was the heart and soul of the Saints during the clubs 11 year
premiership reign. Even as a Rooster supporter since 1952, Provan was the hallmark of the greatest 2nd rower to play the game. He played very tough but fair asked no quarter and gave no quarter.
A gentleman of the great game. RIP

Billy Smith extended his contract with Roosters for 2 years early last week.

Money ballers: These 23 off contract stars are the value buys in NRL player market

They are close but as yet not close enough, having watched the Roosters since 1952 the 1975 team was brilliant in attack and unmerciful in defence.

But I digress, as the current team has a new culture and any 30 odd players in this year group has far deeper playing skills and the structure is embedded within the juniors through to the NRL 30 player group.
I’m blessed to have seen the 1974/75 team play most of their games and again some 40 years later a great professionally balanced squad with far superior administration at the Mighty Roosters

The Roosters are building an NRL dynasty with ruthless intent

The best performance bar the Mighty Roosters this weekend after early injuries and loss of the teams strike weapon.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 6

Your a goose, this is the 1st time is 5 weeks that any Rooster player made the team, games are won through the forwards yet not one Rooster forward has made the team in over 8 weeks.

I’ve been following footy since 1950 and your selections reflect your lack of football knowledge and appreciation of co-ordinated defence and attack with the forwards being the launching pad.
A sad reflection of inert understanding of the game and a real appreciation of the what makes a team perform at its very best.
