Hardly any of the Ivy League schools have elite men’s college teams. Here’s a link to the top 40 rankings https://www.goffrugbyreport.com/news/men-d1aa-college-rankings-week-13

Reaching a fractured US rugby league market will be difficult - even when the NRL actually targets the right code

He wouldn’t change a thing.

Eddie Jones joked about signing Nathan Cleary - but he might be the only man who can save the Wallabies

You’ve got to realise though it can work the other way. This is the fear of some of the rugby union nations. For example, Brian To’o is currently representing Samoa, but he can still represent Australia. Under a different system (say the old union example that existed from 2000-2021) he would have been prevented from doing that so in that instance it works for Samoa. The fear with the union countries is that young guys they’ve given a chance to early in their career (who might have ties to NZ or Aus for example) may decide that once they are established may decide to stand down from the island nations in order to rep NZ or Aus. The old system protected them from that.

Mal Meninga is annoyed about international eligibility rules again - he should be careful what he wishes for

We need centralisation, we need to get the sport into the public schools, stop the players going overseas and playing in the IPL.

Twin DRS controversies leave Aussies fuming as latest collapse, fielding nightmare sum up huge loss to Proteas

I can’t believe people are so keen for centralisation. It’s a dangerous path to go down. NZ is a great example as to the concerns around it. The greatest international rugby team in history, the most successful super rugby team in history and one of the worlds great sporting brands yet the game is faltering in NZ. Centralisation has the potential to stymie innovation and and if you get it wrong it’s a long road back. What happens if two or three years in it’s realised that the central s&c message is wrong and no longer fit for purpose. What happens if the style of play to be adopted and coached at all levels of the game is found too outdated and unsuccessful?

QRU’s centralisation poison - denial and delusion that fails the pub test

I’m staggered by the improvements in Portugal’s game, fair play to them. I’m trying to think of a team that’s improved that much in all facets of their game over a 16 year period.

'That wasn't a fluke' - Vamos, Os Lobos! You gave us a bloody brilliant battle - now go beat Fiji

Will people around rugby in Australia ever learn. Signing rugby league players hasn’t got you anywhere. Cleary is a wonderful footballer but he’s not guaranteed the ball. You could have anybody in the world at 5/8 but if the scrum is going backwards, the lineout isn’t functioning and you can’t win the collision you’re going to be playing off scraps.

Why the Wallabies shouldn't miss out on the next Joey and try to lure Cleary for 2027 World Cup

Forget about grassroots, forget about pathways and forget about the national coaching set up. The one thing letting down rugby in this part of the world is Super Rugby and it has been since its inception. Apart from its very early years has it fully engaged the rugby audience and its high performance advantages are no longer evident. So we now have a competition that doesn’t deliver with regards to high performance and we no longer have a competition that engages a fan base. As well as this our players simply don’t play enough rugby.

Parkes life: 'Mate, the name’s Shag and I’m here to help save Australian rugby'

The problem for Australia on the whole is the NRL is full of average athletes, they just have more of them than Rugby Australia has. There’s no unique athletes in the NRL. There’s no 6 foot 8, 6 foot 10 130kg guys in the NRL which Rugby Australia is desperate for. There’s no 135kg 6 foot tight head props in the NRL which Rugby Australia is desperate for. If you’re after 6 foot 97kg guts who run 11.4 seconds for 100 metres the NRL has them in abundance.

Don’t worry, Wallabies: the NRL is here to save you from yourselves

Eddie Jones is a cowboy who isn’t a winner. What we’ve seen from Eddie is the big fear I have with centralisation. If you back the one horse and one system and in 3 years you realise whoops, what we’ve been doing is wrong you have to start all over again.

Eddie Jones should be celebrated not booed: Why the worst thing RA could do is sack the Wallabies coach

I must admit I’m one of those overseas people who discovered the Roar a little while ago. I just wonder what has happened to Australian male sport. The concern for me is that if the NRL and AFL are the pick of male athletes in Australia then you’re in a for a long few years of disappointment because those athletes aren’t exactly screaming elite. Does the Australian institute of sport still exist?

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

I still can’t work out why the Wallabies, for a team in a sport that isn’t all that popular in Australia are held to such a high standard in comparison to other sporting teams

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

Why would the success of my national team have any bearing on my love of rugby

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

The last time Aus were a powerhouse, World Rugby was a joke

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

If anything this has strengthened my love of rugby.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

Gee I feel for Aussie sports fans. You don’t seem to be good at any male sports now. I watched the AFL the other night and it’s fair to say your best talent isn’t playing that either.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

Is it really that uncomfortable. Most Australian sports teams aren’t good enough. Australia won’t win the cricket World Cup, the Matilda’s lost 3 games at the last football World Cup, the Socceroos won’t win the football World Cup, the Boomers didn’t win the basketball World Cup and won’t win Olympic Gold. That’s just the reality of sport in Australia.

The uncomfortable truth: Whether under Rennie or Jones, the Wallabies just aren't good enough

It always fascinating as somebody from outside the Sydney rugby bubble to see the often trotted out private schoolboy/pasifika line. It just something that is just not representative of most rugby in NSW. I went to a great grand final day in Alstonville last week watching Alstonville v Byron Bay in 1’s, Byron v Casurina in 2’s, Lismore v Casurina in the women’s and Richmond Range v Yamba in 3rd grade. Basically what rugby was like growing up in country NSW.

In relation to 2007. Many believe that was the first WC that captured global attention. The fan engagement was the best we’ve ever seen, it was Fiji and Tongas best WC’s, the emergence of Georgia and Argentina . Sold out stadiums, really gave the French game and the European continental game the boost it needed.

The USA being dominant in basketball and Europe and South America being dominant at football world cups hasn’t hurt those sports. In reality it doesn’t really matter who wins. It’s about the tournament as a whole.

10 tournaments in it’s vital that France or Ireland wins the World Cup for the game to reach next level

Unfortunately we need players that are a lot better than NRL players. And the NRL doesn’t have unique athletes like the Wallabies need. Not too many 6 foot 8 blindside flankers and not many 135kg tight head props. If we need 6ft 100kg guys that run 12 seconds for 100mtrs then they are in abundance in AustraliaZ.

Unleashing Australia's Rugby World Cup potential: NRL to the rescue

Such a myth. Rugby league do their scouting from clubs. Apart from a few big catholic schools that take rugby league very seriously it all
Comes from local clubs. School sport is basically non existent in Australian schools, especially the public system

Golden Generations: How Australian rugby rose from obscurity to greatness, then killed green and golden goose

I don’t remember this at all. Any research into the strength of British and Irish rugby during the 84-01 era as well as Argentina. South Africa were also not present for a portion of this period.

Golden Generations: How Australian rugby rose from obscurity to greatness, then killed green and golden goose

We’ve only ever occasionally beaten the sides above us. We were very successful at the turn of professionalism when international rugby was a joke.

The two-week observation: The Wallabies can play low possession rugby OR find the Australian way – but not both

You’re not seriously calling Marika and Vunivalu Rugby League wingers. They literally played rugby union their whole life until signed by the Tigers and Storm
