Critical to Richmond’s success- running power and footy smarts will be missed. The extra up at the stoppage, but then motor down to the fall of the ball, either way gave a numerical advantage that generally paid off. The refurb at Richmond doesn’t have a ready- made replacement. Hopefully goes to North with Clarko and then comes back with more ideas. The young early draftees would appreciate his journey.
Included in the refurb, Castagna to WC. They look like they need players to lift training standards; his work rate and selflessness will raise others.

Why Richmond will miss Kane 'The Rug' Lambert

Thanks for the article! You actually addressed one of the issues that much of the media overlooked – Grimes dropped chest mark. Skipper avoids torch, but the focus is on Cumberland and Castagna etc
Injuries at the wrong time have been overcome before: 2020, so it’s more an opportunity to see if Ryan, Sonzie, Cumberland etc can step up consistently. With Lynch out, Balta can get tuition from Jack. Crisis creates opportunities.
As for flag favourites – Sydney 2016, Adelaide 2017, Richmond 2018, Geelong 2019, Brisbane 2020 – don’t get too carried away just yet.

Richmond are no longer premiership contenders

Agreed with your first sentiment Samuel, but then you went upside down attacking all and sundry who disagreed with you. Some how the opinion of the Herald Sun, Fox etc is linked to the Greens?!? The hypocritical reporting of personal lives, by those that would not like a light shined on them is astonishing. If he broke the law, report it, otherwise leave people alone.

'Relentless pursuit and persecution': De Goey's extraordinary response to 'uneducated' media over Bali video

The coaches have pushed for the rule changes – Sheedy first, then Clarkson advocated for increased numbers on the bench- ironically both bemoan how defensive the game is AFTER their coaching rein ends!

The rise of the flood defence: An AFL malaise

Reduce the number of players to 18 and have 2 subs. Weird idea, but worked for 100 years!
The coaches con the rule makers.
Try seeing every free kick with so many bodies blocking the view.
Rarely do I watch a game now that my team is not playing in – it’s too scrambly and defensive.

The rise of the flood defence: An AFL malaise

Thanks guywhatlikessport – bit too much movie content, but catch your drift.
JUH & Thilthorpe should also be tried down back. Balta, N Daicos, and more recently Zorko can be switched/developed/nursed through the back half.
Tarrant and Miller (should ask to go to Carlton) are now just backups for Grimes & Balta.
Who can be the John McLane in the midfield? Or is an Arnie the final solution?

Is Josh Gibcus the AFL's John McClane?

What should Australia's squad look like at the 2023 World Cup?

Some of the comments indicated that mental health has been affected by Morris etc The lack of filter is one of issues with the gutter journalism that drives many of us to sites like the Roar. What analysis does Morris ever bring to how to win or lose?

AFL NEWS: Footy media up in arms over Bevo's journo spray, COVID rocks Hawks with stars to miss

Wash your mouth out! How many goals from 50s? Melbourne won’t have the same backline next game. Tiges will be fine.
Prefer Thom’s parochialism to that sort of defeatist approach:)

AFL pre-season: New rules raise eyebrows as Cripps and Carlton give reigning premiers the Blues

Woakes seems to get a game because of his batting. Robinson has a decent technique – take him home and work on it and his fitness. Can bowl well away from home, which Woakes can’t.
And surely Broad is better than Jack Leach – playing a bad spinner, just to play a spinner seems like Burns should play because he is left handed!

Can anyone tell me what's going on with English Test cricket?

Reaction to a terrible batting year – drop your 2 most successful bowlers. Retain the one bowler who is patently not fit enough for test cricket- Robinson, rather than make him do the training that Anderson does.
I could understand resting Anderson, who is at the age he should be managed, but why is Broad lumped in also?
Root is in a similar space to Border when we were at our nadir – so pick some young batsmen and stick. And don’t change wicket keeper every 6-8 tests. Keeper is the driver of culture on field, which flows to dressing room and batting.

I refuse to watch or listen if Cornes is any chance of speaking into a microphone. I would like him to apologise every week Carlton plays for his continued attack on Walsh and Carlton CF to Rozee. He is only negative. The comparison to KB in the mornings is chalk and cheese – long term staff must dread coming to work ????

Cornes' backlash concerns spark women’s sport debate while criticising Lanning’s tactics, AFLW standards

The Elephant in the room will make a difference too 🙂
Expect Richmond to make the eight – if class youngsters can out work Castagna and Parker, goals that have been missed could be the difference between winning and losing 2/3 games. But they will need to work!

The four players who could make or break Richmond Tigers in 2022

McGrath has been a level above for a while now. The challenge for bowlers world wide is to generate the extra pace and bounce that can push the batswomen back. McGrath (and Wyatt) can advance down the track without any real concern for being hit in the grill. Recruiting a few netballers from the circle may be the next phase in the game. Until then, Lanning will lean back and slay them through point; and McGrath everywhere!

Can rusty England recover and find a solution to their Tahlia McGrath problem?

Unfortunately there are not enough retired players umpiring at junior level. Junior clubs are often a separate entity to the senior club. The umpires allocated to junior girls are generally not the highest qualified from the pool of umpires often their own age. Few free kicks are paid – further increasing congestion and the chance of head knock. As a kid, my father said if there’s 3 ball ups in a row, get your hands on the ball next – the umpire will award a free no matter what. This opened the play up and got the game going. (Funny how you remember these things years later) This doesn’t happen currently – and the girls miss out on enjoyable game time as the scrum goes on.
(I don’t blame the umpires – too many parents over analyse the umpires, putting ridiculous pressure on, instead of enjoying the good stuff kids do)

Is the AFLW reckless to hit the accelerator while concussion concerns hang over players' heads?

Unfortunately Test cricket will be dead in my lifetime – $
BBL – too much of a bad thing. Driving cricketers away from the game. Can’t imagine the Australian version of the Hundred on top BBL making me more excited about cricket.
English cricket is suffering due to other countries having their promising cricketers playing in winter, as well as summer. No chance of that in England due to the weather. Still enough time for slogfest, but not playing long innings after long innings all year round.
Australian summer could be Test1 v England (Poms then have a tour game); Test 2 Aus v Bangladesh ( have a tour game) Test 3 v Poms…. and so on Allow the drafting of the poor bowler who is always made 12th into any of the state teams. Bonus $ to the states if they beat the touring team.
If Australia is not innovative in providing a contest on home soil, even Test lovers will turn off.

How big an overhaul does English cricket need?

Blues development has been poor for 15 years, so Covid is hardly a bump in the road. Blues recruiting 4 year players is possible internal acknowledgment of this.
Back to Collingwood – should make the 8. Daicos will give them some class, and a fit Howe and Grundy make a big difference

Uzzie is unlucky

Swepson must play. Green is not an allrounder type bowler: moves it at 145kph, allowing Marsh to bowl the donkey overs if required (Swapson and Lyon should bowl plenty)

Alternatively Wade’s WC form was not dissimilar to Marsh, but not chosen as the back up, so you would think the selectors are looking longer term.

Since when did batsmen not get to bowl a few overs to give the bowlers a chop out – G Chappell, D Walters, M Waugh, S Tendulkar, V Richards – Marnus, Smith, Warner could bowl 5 overs each and Uzzi plays

Uzzy, Bison or someone else? Five players Australia can turn to after losing their Head

Thanks Flem
Leach bowling leg stump was weird even for park cricket. If he has no intention of getting a wicket, just add his runs to the other end to get the average. Green fell for the same trick as Javed against Skulls – played for spin.
The only reason England are this close is we hit the catches to Root. He is their only bat, best catcher, best spinner, probably has to administer the Covid tests (any other Pom would not be able to use the stick), but hard to see many positives in his on field captaincy

FLEM'S VERDICT: 'What was Root doing? How mediocre, mismatched England blew Jimmy's heroics'

We did have a couple of spinners Warne & Macgill spinner it out of the right handers foot marks then. But maybe Broad around the wicket to the lefties could fill the breach

Starc maybe more relaxed without having to feign aggro. He has had Green to chop him out too.

FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Bowl-off' looms between new quicks for Boxing Day spot

Donald, do you think the current Australian top 6 are batting well? The bowling they are facing is the Windies of the 80’s.
If we were really confident, we would play some shots.
Head at least attacked, but I lack confidence in his batting on a sporting track with decent oppo

Badmanners – Smith and Marnus both seem to be able to score when scratching – will bat and bat on the road at the G.

FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Bowl-off' looms between new quicks for Boxing Day spot

Paul – the Poms have selected 260 more players than Australia. Very consistent in throwing players under the bus!
