Favorite player: Trent Cotchen Best match Aus v Sth Africa 2nd test. Heals hits a 6 for us to win by 2 wickets

Starc has not had many long spells in the heat – the Poms have caved in too quickly. That said, Richardson looked to be trying too hard in the first innings. Having consecutive tests may help him relax and feel part of it. He seems to have a higher ceiling than Neser to me. I would be ok with rotating Starc.
Smith is more the concern – with his technique, if he’s out of form (which everyone goes through) it’s hard to watch. Probably lucky that Archer is not available.
Australia are not really great. The Poms pick poorly – not their best keeper, Woakes for the runs he brings, no spinner in Adelaide heat etc Will probably drop Hameed, although he has looked pretty solid. This makes us look great! But I don’t think anyone could say our second innings would be watched ever again – Harris: out again, likely dropped, Warner run out cheap; Labuschagne : scratched around again; Smith: out 3 times for 6; Head is always chancy; Green : it was like a net session facing Root & Malan. Hopefully Puc is right for Melbourne – we don’t need another left hander.

FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Bowl-off' looms between new quicks for Boxing Day spot

Hameed looks good. Even if he only gets to 20 odd and then gets out, he forces the bowlers to bowl to him. Once he works out how to get the second 25, he might be the rock you can build around. Technically 1000% better than Burns.
Lyon looks to have been worked out by opposing teams – doesn’t even clean up the tail anymore. Although it is doubtful Australia will fear Leach – too many lefties for his mild spin to cause much damage.

FLEM'S VERDICT: Balls to the wall as everything rides on Hazlewood fitness and Root's resilience to new pill

The weather looks perfect for England. Swinging ball, both Harris and Warner are vulnerable. No Harmison start likely with Broad & Anderson.
Hopefully Cummins captains naturally, rather than waiting for instructions from the coach – eg give Marnus a few overs of leggies every now and then; bowl the quicks in short spells- giving Green a chance to swing it away from the right handers ( Starc swings it in, Cummins generally in)
So far, Green has looked our best technically – but we then make him play with the tail (bat him at 5) and then he gets a bowl with a soft ball when the partnership is set. He would need bottle tops or sandpaper to get it to swing!
Warner gets 2 tests for mine. If return to form (test cricket) great, if not retire to 20/20 gravy train.
All rounders aren’t generally relied upon to do everything every game. If they win a match with bat or ball every 4 games, that’s as good as Sachin Tendulkar!

Green confident he can nail all-rounder role but not Stoked with comparison

Very sad. To the righteous that are happy with this outcome, I hope you and your family don’t have to go through the trauma twice of being counselled for a mistake four years apart that then drives you to retire. People make mistakes, but the modern equivalent of a public stoning does not make the throwers of the stones better than those they hit.
I wish Tim and his family well. I also hope the lady involved can recover from her mishaps.

'Extremely concerned': Paine takes 'mental health break' putting him OUT of first Test with career in doubt

This chairman should be on the National Cabinet for Covid! Knew about Paine’s text, doesn’t sack him when he gets the big chair, but says others should have. As a Foxtel/News Ltd employee, he doesn’t condemn the muckraking. In between, he appoints Paine’s business partner to
Chair selection.

Paine has played his last test. He will not retire as yet, due to contract pay out to be negotiated.

I am going to the Gabba test, but find it hard to support a sport that continually does not support its players. Get some cricketers on the board.

On a positive note – Wade, Peirson, Carey, Inglis?

Paine should never have been named captain, says CA chair

BennO – who are you punishing?

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

MxDay – has Paine mis stepped since captain? Can all of your mates please post all of your previous mis deeds on here for us to judge whether you resign ; and assume you start another job ( or do you never work again?)
I don’t understand the outcome you want?!

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

Don – I expect better from many of you. But I would not penalise the family twice
Furthermore, I want my employer on my side – not the gutter trash ( which I now count all media, including the ABC( hardly worth reading anymore))

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

Adam – I think the stepping down is to avoid press in the role of captain.

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

I disagree on the expectations of behaviour depending upon pay scale. Human beings make mistakes. What I object to is the column inches dedicated to gossip and innuendo that is separate to the issues at hand. Paine’s family has dealt with this. His employer has dealt with it. What positive outcome can come of airing this laundry 4 years later? Surely it is a private matter.
Back to your first point of standards – the PM tells half truths, back flips and flat out lies. But maybe he has a better cover drive than Tim Paine, so we overlook these weaknesses ????

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

Don – The “crime” was prior to his appointment. Cricketers are well paid, but if they were paid $100k would you not be so judgmental? $150k? $200? What is the threshold?
By your definition, any Test cricketer with lust issues should resign! I have seen firsthand prominent cricket personalities in more compromised positions.
If Paine were giving public sermons on how to be a husband, father etc – throw him under the bus. But he is not, so let him and his family be. The grubs that bring these stories up have no feelings for the family. Salacious at best.
I would like to see a Dexter equivalent to dig up the dirt on the gutter trash that bring these types of stones to light.

Tim Paine is not the man we thought he was. Is anyone?

Charlie – if it’s a strategic decision, trade him during the trade period. But good on North, I wish they could have got a few others – delisting contracted players is a loophole that should be closed

Suns' staggering list management own goal sees star poached by Kangaroos

Noble must be good at building relationships …. North is similar to Suns in being a “destination club” ….. Suns need not worry about being popular with other clubs. Be popular with your players.

Suns' staggering list management own goal sees star poached by Kangaroos

Losing Lyons and now Greenwood is really poor. Too easy to get players out of the Suns.
Draft picks just don’t stack up against hard bodied mature players.
I like the Suns, but part of that might also be that they are the little kids of the play ground that needs sympathy.

2021 AFL draft breakdown: What to expect

Well done Macca.
Blues list is fine – but can they sacrifice to play as a team? When the factions start to undermine, the coaches have to cover their bums, then it flows on to the players. Over recent years the teams that work for one another have less injuries and their best on the field. Swans, Geelong, Richmond and now Melbourne. If Voss and Cook can change the culture, you might get your wish and have a full list to choose from.
I feel Ed Curnow is underrated – If you and TB could arrange a trade he would have been a great fit at the Suns 😉

Carlton in 2022: A mystery wrapped in a riddle

Plenty of others have slid down the order as they got older. Not the worst suggestion! : )
Still want Green at 5.
Is there a right handed opener (excluding Puc) that I have overlooked?

Technically our best bat – the further up the order the better

But not under pressure – just doesn’t seem the same man

Paine's 'shocker': Warne rips into skipper, delivers harsh verdict on Khawaja, Starc ahead of Ashes

Usman K
David W (if doesn’t score in first 2, retire)
Marnus L
Steve S (captain)
Cameron G
Marcus H
Alex C
Pat C
Mitch S
Gary L
Josh H

After 2 tests if Warner still out of sorts, retire. Thrown under the bus by Cricket Australia – the bowlers must have known, and has never fully recovered. Harris moves up.
Head then in at 6. Green needs time before counter attacking – too much pressure to bat with tail.

Unfortunately the IPL franchise owners will need to demonstrate return on investment. It’s therefore unlikely to be considerations of other countries development. Like AFL in Australia, the IPL will dominate the fixture globally – with worthless 20/20!

The tough decisions the ICC needs to make around domestic and international cricket

Carlton needed most in the off season- stop the committee undermining each other.
Until Cook soothes the backroom, the team has little chance of working together.

Freo looks to have a draft hand for sustained success – assuming they draft the cream of WA : 6,8,19,22
Saints need points for Academy players, so fingers crossed Tiges can get hold of 9. Otherwise the strategy could be to sell the picks in the 20s on trade night for early future picks – seems a bit risky to me

Could Seb Ross adapt to Richmond’s style of play? His kicking and vision could help the forward connection.
I have not seen a lot of the Saints this year, but he could allow Cotchin a spell from the bash and crash.
