Odd argument in this article. Why must the booing stop? So what if someone’s feelings are hurt? Man up. Face it. Perform for the fans who do love you.

It’s a sports event. People yell stuff. Ape had no racial connotation to a 13 year old girl who simply meant it as a general non-racist insult of an opposing player..like “idiot”.

When people go to an AFL game should they get a list of terms that might offend? Should each player write the fans a list of unacceptable terms? Should we require children to study a list of semi-racist fringe terms like “ape” that might, on the off chance, offend?

If Goodes retires because booing hurts his feelings or he insists on interpreting it as racist booing, then he’s just a sook and is punishing all the fans who don’t boo him.

What is “racist booing” anyway? It’s only Goodes who gets this, not other Aborigines. Will all booing against Aboriginal players be now racist? For Pete’s sake, where is this excessive political correctness taking us? It’s a sports event. Hurt feelings is not really part of it, or if it is, it’s still no reason to stop playing.

Harden up cry baby. Australia is very un-racist nowadays. It’s the Left who sees everything in terms of race, or gender or sexual orientation.

He’s setting himself up to be a Left-martyr. Could be a springboard to politics: the guy who was racistly booed out of AFL and retired early…because 35 is very early for a footballer….not.

The Goodes issue: Who can decide what is racist?

I’m still upset about that decision to rob Central Coast Mariners of a home grand final. So what if it’s only 20,000 capacity? Most people watch it on TV, so what’s the difference?

There was deal to let the winner of the top-two playoff host the final. It was stated in writing. It shouldn’t be abrogated for any reason.

So what if it’s a “showpiece”. You want to make it a showpiece, how about making the league free-to-air and removing the salary and foreign player cap? Then you’ll see a showpiece.

Yes the FFA made an A-league and Lowy integrated us into Asia. Thanks for that. Now step aside and let it grow. Sick of decisions coming out of Sydney.

Brisbane deserving grand final hosts

“A second team for Perth or Adelaide are poor ideas.”

Agreed.

I would also like to see Oceania become a sub group of Asia so that the domestic competitions can be merged. In order to go from two to four Champions League spots we need a second tier with promotion/relegation. I would like to see the NZ comp (initially) form part of that second tier. And I would like to see an FA-style Cup encompassing all of Oceania and maybe Singapore as well.

As for Tassie — it may have 500k all up but how far are they from Hobart and Launceston? Don’t think it will work there.

Help design the future A-League (Part 1)

We’re bonded with New Zealand now both having suffered cheating Italian dives at the WC. When you mentioned Scottish accents it reminded me of how half the coaches in the A-league have Scottish accents. Do they not want their coaches in Scotland?

Also, you might want to correct it when you say it’s NZs first goal because Steve Sumner and Steve Wooddin each scored against Scotland in a group game at the 1982 World Cup.

The All Whites success involves a touch of Kiwi

Ahh, Etihad, not Emirates. Yes, I hated the Japanese multi-purpose stadiums including Yoko. Berlin Olympic not so bad. I think stadiums like Old Trafford are best.

Support the World Cup bid, don't obstruct it

The AFL stadium issue can be bypassed if we just build enough new stadiums to forget about them.

The popularity of AFL means that Australia doesn’t have the large rectangular stadiums that other developed nations have. I’ve always hated seeing football being played in those bloody multi-purpose stadiums; olympic stadiums and AFL stadiums. It’s just not the right shape and Australia doesn’t deserve the Cup if we don’t have proper rectangular stadiums.

Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne need truly rectangular, 45,000+ stadiums. Subiaco isn’t good enough. Nor many of the old larger AFL grounds with their low gradient seating. I don’t think MCG or Emirates are that great either.

Support the World Cup bid, don't obstruct it

Germany aren’t the powerhouses they used to be. Klose is good, but not that good. This is no West Germany class of 1986. Lucky I’m old enough to remember Matthaus, Klinsmann, Voller, Rummenigge and Brehme. Oh those were the days. This German team is pale by comparison.

One thing I did notice about the current German team against the Maltese is that the Germans are tall. Or, are the Maltese just pygmies? Because that’s how they looked compared to the Germans.

Slow starting Germans? You have to be kidding

Ya. And Schwarzer is actually a mole. Will let in three goals. It’s all in ze master plan.

Every time the South African vuvuzela wails out it will serve to remind us of the folly of Sepp Blatter awarding the World Cup to Africa.

Let the countdown to the biggest sporting event begin

Yeah, and I suppose our pedigree would raise the standards right across the AFC, whereas New Zealand can’t really offer that. Plus, were a good place to host the Asian Cup and AFC executives love a good junket.

New Zealand need to learn their place

I totally agree that New Zealand should aim to join Asia for their own sake. They’re the only Oceanian country left with the resources to be able to e.g. fly half way round the world for continental fixtures. You mention: but what would be in it for AFC? I’m curious, what was in it for the AFC for Australia to join? Why did they let us in?

New Zealand need to learn their place

Still a ways from English Championship level but I think we’re getting there. Fowler seems to be a success and the returning Socceroos are great (for the A-league at least – maybe not the Socceroos). The coaching has improved and the tactics.

But I think the biggest shot in the arm has been the two new teams. 8 wasn’t enough. More variety and the two teams themselves are quite interesting. GC are obvious front-runners – FFA delayed one year too long with them – and how ’bout that Smeltz?! I love NQ’s colours and with the return of Talay even they are starting to come good.

But holding it back more than ever, aside from the free-to-air coverage issue, is the media bias towards the established codes. Jesus, what are they afraid of?

Five reasons I'm loving A-League season five

Waaa? Nth Qld Fury has a good kit and those colours and that logo are the best in A-league! Celtic’s hoops look pretty drab to me.
