What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
Agreed – could be argued that both teams have a similar format and look about them. Australian batting built around Smith, England’s Root. They probably have more strength in their middle to lower order?
What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
Agree – the number that are on the fringes of selection is healthy after a very competitive Shield Season. With some very good bowling attacks coming from each state these days first season in a few that some healthy runs have been churned out.
What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
That’s either Adam Zampas actual last name before he changed it or simply an auto correct error from commenting on my phone. You be the judge qwetten.

I agree – I believe the batting if Cummins and Starc gives us that freedom.

Pattinson was not omitted on purpose – he is definitely in the mix, writing down other contenders and also missed Jackson Bird, Swepson, Zamora – I’m sure there are others …
What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
Extremely confident – England should turn up though – you never know!
Seriously though, the article is more about what the Australian team should look like, not talking up prospects against England.
What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
While Michael Cheika tried to shoulder the blame for not having the players up for the Sydney debacle – the majority of fault rests with the players. These selections give a number of players in the forwards a second chance, namely Douglas and Moore a second chance. McCalman and Simmons unlucky to be singled out – but if Simmons was the one calling the lineout last weekend, he is not deserving of this ‘lineout caller’ tag that is often associated with his selection. The backrow will have to really step up for what will be another brutal test in Wellington. Fardy added value from bench last week and it appears the only way the Pooper partnership will be broken is when Pocock goes on sabbatical.
It does not matter what halves / centres pairing we have if we do not get undisrupted ball for them. Cooper / Foley defending together will be interesting. Good to see Coleman, Keravi and Hodge get an opportunity. I will be backing the boys to do their best but they need to play out of their skins to turn it around and hope that ABs have an off night! Unlikely!
Wallabies team for Bledisloe 2: Quade Cooper to start at flyhalf, Foley inside centre
I’m imagining the 33 will drop out 1 prop (AA?), 1 second rower (Mumm/Skelton/Coleman/Timani) and a halfback with Frisby most likely to be the unlucky one.
Then from the 33.
1.Sio
2. Moore – hard to displace unless they name another skipper – cant see it happening during RC
3. Kepu
4. Douglas
5. Simmons
6. Fardy
7. Hooper
8. Pocock
9. Genia
10. Foley
11. Horne – used to bag him but he gives 110% and does add value in defence and support
12. Giteau – back for a reason and defensively adds starch plus the old second playmaker tag
13. Kurindrani – still holding off Kerevi but only just – feel Kerevi will be breathing down his neck
14. D H Petty – they need consistency here and need to give him an extended run – one of the positives from the England series.
15. Folau – cant move to 13 at international level just yet, but must get hands on ball
16. TPN
17. Slipper
18. Robertson (is he the only tighthead backup??)
19. Timani – he offers a little more than Skelton does as far as versatility goes and cover for 8- would love to see him off bench
20. McMahon – still pressuring Hooper – future Aussie leader
21. Phipps – holding off pressure from Frisby
22. Cooper – dare I say the new K Beale to add some attacking spark off the bench
23. AAC – can play anywhere in backline except 10 for mind
Wallabies squad for Rugby Championship: Giteau released from Toulon and named
PROPS? Am I going bonkers or are Kepu and Robertson the only specialist tightheads? If so, missing Greg Holmes already!
Wallabies squad for Rugby Championship: Giteau released from Toulon and named
While I am throwing the boot into Courier Mail (the main reason I read the Roar and forums daily!!), it is disgusting that once the Reds are out of contention there is hardly a paragraph about what is happening with other Australian teams, this season the Brumbies.
So keep up the good work roarers, BOO Courier Mail.
The Reds must hire a coach that Quade Cooper wants
Unfortunately the Courier Mail has become a junk newspaper and this has been blown out of proportion – this story appeared page 3 and 3 pages in from back page yesterday with only a few ambiguous quotes from QC. Page 3 was more devoted to a bikini photo of his model girlfriend than anything football, typical Courier Mail rubbish. Unless it is Broncos or Qld State of Origin the sport does not get the deserved coverage.
If you read Coopers actual comments – he is not going to make a decision until the coach is officially announced,
Can’t imagine that is Quade be a diva by any stretch, just a sensible decision ie if Robbie Deans is announced he might say I will go back to Toulon…
Regarding Blackadder possibly meaning Quade wont be bound for Reds, I am sure some of the Kiwis on the site might have more insight into whether Todd B was singing from the Robbie Deans hymnbook – my belief is there hasn’t been much correlation there at all.
Results wise – am I wrong in remembering Blackadder was the coach when against all odds post earthquake still got Crusaders to final against Reds without having played a ‘home’ game?
Interesting that Laurie Fisher has been discounted – has he signed elsewhere?
The Reds must hire a coach that Quade Cooper wants
Me too Left.
Re: Reds Coach, the fact the Moore and now George Smith have signed is reinforcing my Laurie Fisher theory.
No sure what that spells for the Reds but surely under a coach like that the forward pack will improve further. Still have concerns about the 10 jersey….
Douglas and Houston returning to Reds adds more intrigue for Chieka
Come on – that would never happen!! It is inconceivable that a player gets a leg up in any Australian team simply because they have donned the sky blue… It’s the Wallabies not the Australian cricket team!
Cheika makes three cuts to Wallabies squad to face England
Yeh – I hate it when work gets in the way of me keeping up to date!
Cheika makes three cuts to Wallabies squad to face England
Wow – didn’t realise that and that Carter had snuck in!
Cheika makes three cuts to Wallabies squad to face England
I think once Liam Gill stuck to his guns re: French Contract it was the death knell for his Wallabies chances for the next 2 years. Got to feel for him, when he signed Richard Graham was still coach of Reds, Pocock was still going to be here for the next 2 years and Matt Hodgson was uninjured and arguably still ahead of him in the Wallaby pecking order. Let’s hope Gill works on some other facets of his game and becomes an even better quality 7 upon his (hopeful) return in 2019 per World Cup!
Cheika makes three cuts to Wallabies squad to face England
Unfortunately from the players he had in the squad, Palu, Horwill and Gill are all limited to what position/s they can play. Was logical this was what Cheika would go for once he had named starting XV. If the McMahon gamble at No.8 doesn’t work he needed to have McCalman there – Mumm can cover blindside and obviously second row. Concerns about Simmons lasting full game and you would also have to say Arnold will not last 80, so Mumm will be on in some capacity in the second half. Let us all hope there is no cloud over Simmons fitness, could see Hooper have to come off the wing and pack at lock!
Cheika makes three cuts to Wallabies squad to face England
Agree – who replaces Pocock TWAS? And if no Simmons, what then?
After the panic, the three things the Wallabies need to fix for Melbourne
Ive been looking for Aviva Premiership stats – anyone know where to get those? Interested to see how G Smith and L Houston match up against the Robshaws etc.?
After the panic, the three things the Wallabies need to fix for Melbourne
I had a coach who used to say if you receive a bad pass, don’t make it worse by throwing the worst pass!
After the panic, the three things the Wallabies need to fix for Melbourne
Id like to see that but possibly they are little behind the ball pace wise – do we really need more of them at the breakdown before us?
Who should replace David Pocock?
Field goals could play a part!
Ill be sure to include that in next stats!
Who should replace David Pocock?
Id love to see Hooper moved to Hornes wing and Gill brought into 7 but I don’t think Cheika is that big a risk taker!
Who should replace David Pocock?
I am still shocked by this call from Brad Thorn.
There has to be more to this than is being reported as it does not add up.
For all his detractors, the toxic haters and those that carry on about his defensive woes – the Reds are a better proposition with Quade Cooper in the side. We can debate until we are blue in the face about his shortcomings but surely there are only 2 people keeping him from a Wallabies jersey – B Foley and M Cheika.
I admit he is not the player he was in 2011, but neither is Will Genia. Like Genia, Quade has lost the speed off the mark and unfortunatley he has replaced a poor tackling method with a high risk, forever carded technique. Are these flaws worthy of cutting arugably the best player in the world from 6 years ago? He is not in is late 30’s!
Forgetting the 2 years to run on his contract, that Thorn seems to have forgotten prior to dropping the bombshell, surely dropping him completely from the squad does not make sense. The spark he provides from the bench for the Wallabies (prior to being dropped of course) surely warrants at least a place in the squad? The idea he is a poor trainer, unfit, a bad influence doesn’t hold water.
Something is amiss and if Brad Thorn wants the backing of the Qld Reds public, he should come clean. He won’t be seeing my families 4 bums at Suncorp Stadium – he took away the biggest Qld drawcard in one foul swoop.
Cynical perhaps, but maybe he took a phone call from Robbie Deans on the matter?
The Reds without Cooper makes no sense to me
