We need a national racing body to get the states to pull their heads in and stop cannibalizing each other’s carnival. So many pop up races with ridiculous prize money, all at distances of less than an mile is not good for racing. The Caulfied Cup field is very average. Sadly, over the last twenty years foreign stayers have improved the quality of the fields and have cleaned the locals up on numerous occasions. Ours stayers are shithouse, but what do we expect. While ever we have races like the The Everest, All Star Mile and the Golden Eagle all popping up over the last 5 years along with the Golden Slipper, Golden Rose, Blue Diamond etc as a carrot, why would you bother to breed stayers.
Sometimes less is more - Caulfield Cup and The Everest can't be staged on the same day
I don’t think the Everest should be run on Caulfield Cup day, but geez I hope Nature Strip cleans them up. Won’t back him at the odds but will cheer him on, Jacquinot is the danger. The race should be run on Epsom day.
