After starting out as a demonstration event at the 1900 Olympic games, Motorsport has gone from strength to strength to arguably become one of the most viewed sports in the world, with multiple categories and series around the world.

Although there are many forms of Motorsport, the most popular is Formula One racing which is an open-wheel style of series where some of world’s sports biggest names have applied their trade. Australia’s Mark Webber is the most-recently retired home-grown star, while Daniel Ricciardo is the only Aussie currently in the field.

MotoGP is the top motorbike series in the world, and both Formula One and MotoGP have races in Australia as part of their season each year.

Outside of MotoGP and Formula One, Australia’s most prominent domestic product is the Supercars series. Formally known as V8 Supercars, it has recently been re-modelled to include non-V8 cars.

The Bathurst 1000 is the headline act of the series, which takes in races right around Australia and New Zealand throughout the calendar year.

In the United States of America, Nascar dominates the racing landscape racing mainly on oval tracks throughout the year.
