The second Ashes Test resumes on Day 2 in Adelaide with Australia in the box seat at 2/221 in their first innings against England. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 3:00pm AEDT.

It was another day to forget for England after such a promising start.

While Jos Buttler took a superb catch to dismiss Marcus Harris early on, he subsequently dropped two much easier chances including one sitter late in the day. The man he dropped just so happened to be Marnus Labuschagne who resumes his innings on 95.

The one positive for England is they didn’t let Australia streak away and kept the run-rate at 2.5 for most of the day.

However, the fact they couldn’t pick up a wicket with the new ball last night means Australia are $1.43 favourites to win the match. The first hour today will be make or break for the visitors.

Without a front-line spin bowler in the lineup captain Joe Root has had to bowl plenty of spin already to try and get through the overs and give his pace bowlers a rest from the blistering Adelaide sun.

He got a few to turn quite viciously which will make Australia’s Nathan Lyon excited about what he can do on this pitch.

England had a miracle when Pat Cummins was forced to sit out the game after being a COVID close contact but that stroke of luck won’t make a difference if England can’t keep the Aussies under 400.

A big day coming up which could go a long way to deciding the Ashes.
