Bangladesh and Netherlands begin their Super 12 campaigns at the T20 World Cup at Blundstone Arena in Hobart. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).
After wins against UAE and Namibia during the initial group stage of the tournament, the Dutch now advance to the next phase, where Bangladesh await them in the 17th match of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Ranked ninth the in international T20 rankings, Bangladesh will be hopefully of a semi-final spot come early November, yet will find things difficult in upcoming matches against South Africa, India and Pakistan.
Today’s opponent should be a comfortable one for them, with the Dutch likely to struggle with the crafty spin of Rishad Hossain, Shakib Al Hassan, Mossaddek Hossain and Mehidy Hasan.
Runs at the top of the order will be important for Bangladesh throughout the tournament, with the depth in their batting a real concern. If the Dutch attack can make inroads early today, a weakness could be exposed.
Roelof van der Merwe and Paul van Meekeren could be the key figures in achieving those breakthroughs and will be hoping for some pace and bounce in the Bellerive pitch.
The Netherlands have runs in the top and middle order, with Max O’Dowd, Vikramjit Singh and Tom Cooper all capable of being the backbone to an innings, yet combating what is a varied and dangerous Bangladesh attack could be the key to any success they are to have this afternoon.
Prediction
It looks like being a comfortable win for Bangladesh in this one, with the class they have in the bowling stocks likely to prove too threatening for a Dutch batting line-up that will need to improve based on what we have seen in the tournament thus far.
Looming rain could spice things up a little and a shortened match and Duckworth-Lewis intervention could be the leveller that Netherlands need to snatch an unexpected victory.
