The BBL knockout stages begin with the Qualifier final between the Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Sixers. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:40pm AEST.

The Heat were undefeated for nearly the whole regular season before a heavy loss against the Scorchers in Perth stopped their unbeaten run.

While the Heat will miss not having their home game at the Gabba due to the upcoming West Indies Test, the Carrara wicket will suit their spin duo of Matt Kuhnemann and Mitch Swepson.

With superstars out of the Heat’s batting line-up due to other franchise league commitments and Test duties – Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Colin Munro and Sam Billings are all unavailable from the first-choice team – the responsibility will lie on Matt Renshaw and Nathan McSweeney to get big scores.

The Sixers continue to show their class, finishing in the top two for the fifth season a row.

With no James Vince available, they’ll be looking at Dan Hughes, Josh Phillipe and Moises Henriques to get the runs at the top of the order.

Steve O’Keefe is likely to come in for Jackson Bird on a likely spin-friendly wicket, to give the Sixers more overs of slow bowling to strangle the Heat in the middle overs.

The Sixers will be hurt from their loss to the Heat in the knockout stages last season. However, they have huge self-belief, having chased down 198 in Perth earlier this week to seal the double chance.

The Heat did not look convincing with the bat in Perth and will be tested against a quality Sixers attack. They will fight, but I’m backing the Sixers to win in a tight contest.
