The Hobart Hurricanes are looking to stay undefeated as they host the Sydney Sixers at Blundstone Arena tonight. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, from 7:15pm (AEDT).
The in-form team of the competition has continued on its merry way, with Hobart winning all of their first four games. No other team has lost fewer than two games, making this early-season performance even more impressive.
It has come on the back of an elite opening duo, with D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade in excellent form. Both are hitting the ball cleanly and putting the Hurricanes in great positions after ten overs, which is something lacking elsewhere in the BBL.
Hobart’s start to the season is even more important when you take into account the potential absence of D’Arcy Short and maybe even Ben McDermott in the near future. With a set of international limited-overs squads set to be announced in the coming week, both will be at least considered for ODIs and T20Is, which would make them unavailable for Hobart.
Their opposition tonight have found themselves in some decent form as well, despite being one of the poorer sides on paper this season.
Sitting third on the table, the Sixers’ successes have largely come on the back of the great form of Jordan Silk and the crafty bowling of Steve O’Keefe.
Continued issues at the top of the order and inconsistency in the bowling attack makes the Sixers a strange team to follow.
There wasn’t much expectation pre-season that they’d do well, and the fact they’re winning on the back of certain players means the rest of the team is going solidly enough to get the points.
It makes this contest intriguing, given Hobart’s bowling hasn’t been at its best.
Prediction
Both teams are unlikely to feature many changes heading into this contest, in what will be perfect conditions in Hobart.
Hobart should see this as a real opportunity to have a big win before needing to worry about potential absences in the next couple of rounds, which is important in the longer BBL season.
Expect an easy victory for the people in purple, despite the Sixers’ solid form.
Hobart Hurricanes to win.
